In building competitive teams, Cashman has been successful. Since '01, he has had some difficulty fashioning a balanced team--many of those in the naughts featured great offense and less than stellar pitching. I'm one of those who doesn't believe that the playoffs are a crapshoot. Still the Yankees win more than they lose every year. In general, Cashman is a super shrewd trader and less successful in acquiring FAs.
