Chris Stewart Drawing Trade Interest From Teams
Chris Stewart is drawing trade interest from more then one unnamed team before Monday's non tender deadline for the Yankees. Stewart is going through arbitration for the first time and is expected to earn somewhere in the neighborhood of $1 million. The Yankees are also discussing a contract with Stewart to be the backup for Brian McCann so this reports seems to be all over the place.
Stewart is definitely the odd man out on the Yankees 40 man roster it is just whether we will get something for him or not at this point. Personally if we got an A Ball type pitcher to replace Ben Paullus for Stewart I would jump for joy. We have this weekend to send Stewart off so let's hope someone takes him off our hands as a capable backup catcher.

No don't trade Stewart. He's an amazing defender and a somewhat solid hitter. Keep him as the backup
ReplyDeleteTime to get your TV checked, or your eyes, Jack because he is neither.
DeleteFine Daniel. Who's better?
ReplyDeleteAustin Romine, JR Murphy, and Francisco Cervelli. I am assuming we are not counting Brian McCann.

DeleteMurphy and Romine are nowhere near ready to play in the majors full time. As for Cervelli, I think he and Stewart should compete for the backup spot this spring
DeleteCervelli was leaps and bounds better than Stewart in 2013. Brian Cashman and his crew is probably a lot smarter then us when it comes to Yankees baseball and they are going to give Cervelli a contract and not one to Stewart.. that should say something.

ReplyDeleteGive Romine a shot, and by a shot I mean more then once a week, and you see a totally different player. Of course Stewarts APPEARS to be better because every deven games Stewart is in five of them.
DeleteC'mon what? I think Stewart's defense is overrated, I've seen it. The numbers don't tell it, especially with Ro Ro, but the eye test does wonders.
ReplyDeleteI'd much rather give a guy like Romine a shot, as his upside far exceeds Stewart's. Stewart is what he is... good defense, no offense. With McCann around to make the catching position all his, no reason not to give a youngster a shot to sit under the learning tree.
ReplyDeleteBryan, I too think Romine is almost ready for the Show but, I would not sit him on the bench for 100 games. Let him work to get better at his trade in AAA.
DeleteCisco is the back-up, or should be
I thought the same way until seeing how things were done with Posada. Mind you, he was really only part-time for one season, while getting a "cup of coffee in MLB" the previous two years. But he didn't jump into the starting catcher spot.
DeleteBeing a good catcher is so much more than just squatting behind the plate, or hitting. A catcher is essentially the "quarterback" of a baseball team, and filling that role takes knowledge and trust... things that can not be learned and earned while in AAA.
Bryan, I can't argue with what you say except for one thing you may have over looked. Joe G was brought in to help Posada and fill the job as back-up the next year.
DeleteThe situation is different this time, McCann will be the starter for a few years, Romine will learn ALMOST as much catching in AAA as he will in the show. Granted, he would be on a much higher learning curve with the Yankees but, playing 45-60 games a year is not a good idea at this point...not for 4 maybe 5 years.
Romine is the better talent but has options, Cisco has the big time experience and no options!
My vote goes to Cisco, but who knows...someone may be traded!
In a vacuum, I'd like to see Romine get more MLB experience. But you're right... in this situation, it's better to go with Cervelli as the MLB backup and start Romine in AAA. Although, that could hurt Murphy's development, as JR should start in AAA.
DeleteThere are too many good catchers in the organization. A trade really has to happen.
Bryan...
DeleteI too, can see a trade in the works somewhere, some time!
We have; Romine, JR, Sanchez and in Tampa, O'Brien...if a trade comes about...who will be the one to go? They say Sanchez has the best tools, I don't know...I have never seen Sanchez play and he is farther away than JR and Romine.
O'Brien is working as a third basemen these days so he probably isnt in the discussion for catcher anymore because of the logjam.
DeleteYou are right, my FUBAR!
DeleteWhat in the hell am I looking at ? ......Jesus !
DeleteA ghost from the battle of the Bulge ? Little Big Horn ?
Now I see it !!....you were New York's drummer boy at Bull Run.
Kenneth, you are scaring me. Did your wife run out the back door, screaming "call 911."
Check your windows...do you SWAT teams advancing toward your door ?
Black helicopters? Hearing bull horns, blasting out your name ?
AND, now you are calling people, nice people.....FUBAR !
Have you forgotten what that meant ?
Don't look now, but those vinyl records are taking a toll on you.
FUBAR ?
He said HE was FUBAR, not me. He thought O'Brien was a catcher but I quickly educated our old friend lol.
DeleteFRESH CHUM...in the chum bag.......
ReplyDeleteLets get this done. You were never at a lose for words. So why now ?
Don't hide in the weeds, and read this stuff. That is what they do across the river.
I'll not move...take your best shot. Get it off your chest.
Or, are you sitting at Fishjam's house...watching old Seton Hall pitching videos ? I'm sure he is.
Waiting for a call, to take swings at the batting cage?
Step up stinger-man. Don't go out like some third world janitor.
If that is your exit strategy, then you are very convincing.
You read these words, I know this. So, put the cross hairs on me...................patrick.
Let it and let him go, it's over. You win.
DeleteMatt Daley, pitcher, non-tendered.
ReplyDeleteMatt is a local boy, from Long Island, NY...... Raised in Garden City, NY... Not far from me.
Tough kid. Things were starting to turn around. Pitched 6 innings w/ 8 K's in September, for the Yanks.
Hope they resign him. A decent man. Hard worker.
I'm partisan...sorry.
He was good but he is what he is. He can still sign a minor league deal though which is likely.
DeleteNow, this is FUBAR !!
ReplyDeleteJoe Nathan, set to sign two year deal with the Tigers. Just what they need. Dam.
Wilson, with the beard that will not be shaved, near deal withe the Dodgers. Dam.
