Keith Law Ranks Yankees Farm #20 In League

Keith Law has posted his annual list ranking all 30 Major League Team's farm systems and apparently Mr. Law is not a fan of the New York Yankees farm system. The Yankees farm, even with Mason Williams and Gary Sanchez, was ranked #20 in the league. A subscription is required to read his ranking unfortunately so we will just have to go with this paraphrase and also included is a quote from Law as to why he ranked the Yankees so low:

“It seemed like everyone who mattered in this system got hurt in 2013, and of those who didn’t had disappointing years.”

The Houston Astros are ranked as the top team followed by the Twins, and the Pirates in the top three. The three worst teams on the list in order were the Tigers, Angels, and Brewers. Surprisingly I thought the Cardinals would be higher and the Brewers not so bad but that's baseball I guess.

  1. 20th are you kidding me. I would've given our farm around 27th in the league. I just don't understand our philosophy at all. Hal bitches about spending money and not having anything in the farm. Well if its broke and it is make changes. He kept everything in tact and its status quo as usual. To me the organization with the best scouting department is the Cards. Take of some of their scouts and offer them big money to come on board and lets cut these schmucks loose like Oppenheimer and crew and we will unfortunately re-sign Cashman and that is a joke in itself as he is one that has final say on the drafting and organizational flow chart as to who runs what aspect of the scouts and minor league system. There philosophy on pitchers need to change as well as we baby our arms and they end up getting hurt and never pan out. Look at the organizations with the best arms and you won't find one that has limits on their pitchers. They ruined Joba the Hut and I believe they derailed the growth of Hughes. Enough already with this group and lets make a clean cut and move in the right direction.

    1. The difference between us and the MIlwaukee Brewers and Angels, who are ranked at the bottom, is we have very good and very tradeable pieces that simply took a step back. The teams ranked around #27 have nothing to get excited about in the minor leagues..

We don't have the Byron Buxton's of the world in our league and don't have a lot of names the casual fan knows like we did when we had Jesus Montero but there is a ton a solid guys down in the farm, and a lot closer to the majors then you think.

  2. Sorry Daniel I can't disagree with you more. When you have three first rd picks and you have the opportunity to draft three pitchers which is really something that we need and we decide to pick a third baseman out of the hot bed of all baseball programs called Notre Dame and only pick one pitcher to me that speaks of have no clue and the so called prospects you claim we have are not anywhere near the big show. From all that I read there is some talent at the AA level and triple A is weak. Let's not forget this group of evaluators have yet to draft a top flight pitcher let alone a 20 games winner. The Cards to me are the consummate organization and Keith Law has no clue as they are plug and play and their arms are top flight

    1. I disagree. The Yankees have zero impact hot corner prospects and we have a guy named Alex Rodriguez breaking down, aging, and peddling in the steroid game again. It made the utmost sense to draft a guy like Jagielo, especially since we got Clarkin after him. I think Judge could have and would have fallen and we should have taken a pitcher instead of him but what can you do?

You speak about 20 game winners like they happen on every team every year. I don't even need to look and see how many 20 game winners we have had in both leagues in the past 5-10 years. It's probably no more than 3 or 4 for 30 teams. It's not the norm, it's the exception.

Speaking of the Cards and 20 game winners the 2013 National League champions didn't have one... Wainwright won 19 though. I know you mean't that they build from within and all that and I agree with you but if your definition of a top flight pitcher is a 20 game winner I think you may be setting the bar a little high is all.

I mentioned earlier we don't have the Byron Buxton's in our system, that included the pitching aspect of it all, I merely mentioned that we have a ton of solid to above average guys down there in the farm that could be great, and that's not opinion that is a fact. Hard to disagree with facts...

  3. Well if your facts are true then where are all these farm system kids because I don't she smack yet? So there is an old saying the actions speak louder than words so if your assessment is indeed fact then I think your fact is fiction because not one prospect has made an impact and by the way you talk about the third baseman and the last time I remember Dante Bichette Jr was drafted as a third baseman which he hasn't paned out as of yet so again my assessment of the farm system is dead on and that my friend is fact

    1. Like I said they are there, just took a step back. Guys like Mason Williams, Tyler Austin, Mark Montgomery, Rafael DePaula, Jose Campos, Manny Banuelos, etc.

Then you have guys who are not common household names that are solid. Guys like Shane Greene, Chase Whitley, Greg Bird, Peter O'Brien, Jose Pirela, hell maybe even Cito Culver since he is still young enough to turn it around and mature physically.

Then you have the Preston Claiborne's, Dellin Betances', Austin Romines, John Ryan Murphys, etc of the world that are still considered to be prospects. Then you have recent additions of guys like Dean Anna.

That's all before you consider the guys so far away, Ty Hensley, Ian Clarkin, Eric Jagielo, David Palladino, Nick Rumbelow, etc.

The guys are there, they just haven't worked out lately which will make anyone skeptical.

  4. Banuelos, Betances, Nova, Phelps, Robertson, Cervelli, Romine, Anna, Nunez, Zollo, Gardner, these are 11 guys that are from our farm. Each of them has made or will make the northbound train.
I think the real stash of next generation players is AA on down.
This is not a complete list by any means just a show me list.

    1. Soriano technically came out of the Yankees farm system as well. Went to Japan first but same difference.

  5. YANKEES SIGN ?.....Andrew Baily...6 3", 240 lb RH relief pitcher. Best years 2009-10 with Oakland.
Traded to Boston and injuries started to take him down.
Had surgery July '13....for a torn labrum. Can be in pinstripes by mid May.
When right, a big power arm....era's with Oakland....below two.
    Not Balfour, but not bad.

    2. Daniel....where did you come from ? I thought I had the board to myself.
I remember Baily from Oakland. Power arm, and intimidating. Glad to have him aboard.
      A new day....almost fixed.

    3. I'm always here, lol.

Yes he could be a huge upgrade, especially next season. I don't expect all that much from his this season, maybe more towards the second half.

  6. ROCKET REED.....been checking your trap lines ? Mukluk too tight ? Jazz records freeze, and crack ?

    * An observation : All Thomas has to do, is be himself. Nothing more.
I felt he as trying too hard. I went through that, at that mush bowl.
    That was my read.

    1. That is what I told him, he thought Daniel didn't like him. I told him to lose Fat boy and be the Twasp we know...which was very damn good. It always made me envious of his talent, here I was the Journalism/History Major in College and he has the talent! Oh well, I guess I was away too many years, but we try don't we?

    2. I have ZERO issues with twasp, I like twasp and respect him more. I honestly don't like fatboy slim, I think he is disruptive, immature, and annoying.. three things that Tommy is not.

And I didn't say he couldn't continue posting and posting as fatboy slim, I simply laid out what was likely to happen if he did.

    1. You are a good guy to debate Ken Hans!
As I just posted a comment a few moments ago, saying you write your opinion with a reason behind it not as some who just say ..."No, you are wrong" and leave it at that.
I look forward to your comments, you bring up some good points...once in a great, great while! LOL just kidding! Stay well!

    2. Debate is fun. I'd much rather us respectfully disagree and discuss why rather than sitting around a campfire singing and eating marshmallows. The honor is all mine Mr. Hans it's people like you, Patrick, Thomas, Ken Reed, Jeff Levin, hell even twasp every once in a while that make it all worth doing.

    3. Thank you Daniel for the opportunity to comment without the garbage thrown around at some other sites.
There seem to be some very good Yankee fans around here, it's going to be a good year. Even if I can't convince Ken Hans about Brett! LOL

    4. It is definitely going to be a good year, no doubt. Plenty to talk about and hopefully plenty of people to speak with.

  9. Would not it be wonderful if you would certainly have the ability to inspect orange county arrests those qualifications and also have a simple as well as a quick method to understand if any one of your staff members, next-door neighbors, or caretakers have any type of dark keys?
