Ervin Santana Officially Off The Yankees Board

Everyone who disagreed with my posturing for Ervin Santana can be happy today as he comes off the Yankees board signing a one year deal with the Toronto Blue Jays. The deal is worth $14 million which is pretty much right at what he would have made accepting his qualifying offer. That has to be a bit disappointing for Santana after a 2.9 WAR season in 2013 but he has a chance to play with possibly a better team, albeit in a tougher division, in 2014. Congrats to him.

  1. I don't care that the Yankees didn't get this guy. Pineda's performance last night makes me want him to start now

    1. My only worry is he breaks down or wears down come July or August because he has thrown some 40 IP in the last two seasons.

    2. Pineda or not... I don't care. Santana is a good pitcher, but he's not something I believe we should feel upset about for missing out on. Besides, I feel he was extremely lucky last season when you look at the fact his line drive percentage was 23%... well higher than his career average of 18%.

With a strong front four (CC, Hiro, Masa, and Ivan) I'm not worried about the 5th starter, and therefore would like to see what some of our kids can do. That means Pineda, Nuno, Warren, Phelps, etc.

    3. I'm not entirely upset we missed out on him, just think he upgrades the rotation .

  2. We MIGHT have a strong front 4, but we don't yet. CC & Nova are HUGE question marks, and Tanaka is a small one. Let's HOPE our only worry is the bullpen and 5th starter...

    1. Agreed. MOST teams have question marks but the talent is there, and sometimes that's enough. If it's not we have the depth for once to at least compete or make a trade mid season. I'm not entirely worried.

    2. Everybody has questions. There are very few pitchers that don't have some sort of question attached to them.
