I guess they're not out of money after all.
According to the Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo, the Yankees, despite their previous claims, could sign Free Agent SS Stephen Drew sometime after the 2014 Draft.
During Spring Training, as you remember, the Yanks claimed they were "tapped out" after their massive $503 million spending spree, something that, if this report turns out to be true, was obviously a lie.
Even if it was, the Bombers signing Drew right now isn't considered an absolute necessity, as the team only plans to pick up the former Red Sock if it turns out that Derek Jeter can't play the whole season.
And considering that that likely won't happen, as Jeter has been given a considerable amount of nights off this year (and already has a solid backup in the 1.000-hitting defensive stud Brendan Ryan), it seems unlikely that this move will end up getting done, although the possibility is still there.
Drew, who has also spent parts of his first 8 MLB seasons with the Diamondbacks and A's, hit .253 with 13 home runs and 67 RBI last season, as Boston won their third World Series in 10 years over the Carlos Beltran-led Cardinals.
EXTRA ! EXTRA ! ....TheYankees might sign patrick, or Robinson Cano, or Tommy Twasp.
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of article is that ? Yankees might sign Drew ? But " it seems unlikely that this move will end up getting done, although the possibility is still there." So why write about it ?
Who needs Drew. The problem at hand, is pitching.
I was going to say but Jack beat me to it, it's not Jack's fault it's news. We are here to bring news an opinions... the news is that the Yankees may sign Drew after the draft and the Red Sox may sign him simply to keep him away from us. Jack's opinion was he did not think it would happen. Nothing wrong with this article in my opinion, not that you are not entitled to your opinion or to express it. I'm just saying.
DeleteDon't complain to me. The Globe reported on it and seems interesting enough
ReplyDeleteNot to mention, this whole rumor is based on whether or not Jeter stays reliable. If he doesn't, then this post will have certainly been worth writing
ReplyDeleteWe have heard this story before, but stranger things have happened with this team.
DeleteWorth reporting, I am with you on this one...not needed but, it is still an option.
JACK...no one is complaining to you, are they ?
ReplyDeleteOnly critiquing a article that opened with..." I guess they're not out of money after all."....and ends
up with the line..." it seems unlikely that this move will end up getting done, although the possibility is still there."
Jack.....you wrote it, that makes you accountable.
If not, than add a line on at the end......" my words, are not to be challenged." Then, no one will
bother you.
Fine Patrick, I'll make sure to do that from now on.
