The Shakeup That Needs To Starts From Within

The Yankees have been terrible the last couple of weeks and a shakeup is needed. I'm not saying completely blow up the team, that's not necessary, and I am not generally a very patient person both in life and in baseball fandom but something needs to be done and done now. The Yankees should rid themselves of Alfonso Soriano, although they wont, but when Ramon Flores got hurt the chances of that diminished but there are two minor leaguers currently in the Yankees system tearing things up that deserve a shot.

We don't need Kendrys Morales when we have Kyle Roller rotting away in Triple-A. We don't need Brian Roberts when we have Jose Pirela tearing the cover off the ball, albeit for limited power, in the minors as well. Have we learned nothing from the youthful fire that Yangervis Solarte has brought to the team? Are we not tired of veterans that feel like they deserve to be here no matter what?

Look at the stats below and tell me that Pirela at second base and Roller on the bench would not be better for the Yankees than what they currently have. I'll wait.

  1. You're absolutely right about a shakeup. There are several veterans under performing and not owed a ton of money. I would release Soriano, Johnson, and Thornton. I would replace them with Roller, Refsnyder, and either Bleich or Banuelos.

  2. Pirela is more major league ready than Refsnyder is, although Rob is the better player no doubt. Ref just got drafted in like 2012 didn't he?

  3. Yes, 2012. He's done low a, high a, and is currently tearing up aa. He might be lightning in a bottle for us. Youth at second and third. I think Roberts is athletic enough to back up every infield position.

  4. O'Brien leads the minors in homers... Hello... C, RF or DH, what's the hold up?

    1. But he is barely in Double-A... Don't rush the kids too much, it can have negative effects

  5. Sanchez had four hits, twice; in the last three games.

    1. Again, barely in Double-A though. He's the future but the future is not before September 2015 in my opinion.

  6. You have to love Jeter, but a 40 year Old SS and depleted ankle won't get the job done. Major problem is SS, not the infield. You have to move Jeter from SS, he must end as a utility Player that can cover at 2B, DH, 1B or 3B. God knows where, but he's shot as a regular defender at SS. Face reality and trade good pieces for a real, regular SS with a present and future, don't wait for an injury to Jeter that would sap the remaining life out the season. Time to adapt or make the bed to sleep in.

    1. The Yankees don't operate like that often. They basically did it to Bernie and to a certain extent Posada but they won't do it to Jeter. Just my opinion, I was wrong once.

    2. No Daniel, you are not wrong, although, I wish you were! The only way that would happen is if Cashman steps in. He is the only guy in this organization not afraid of Jeter or what will be said of him for sitting him.
