Garrett Jones Talks Being a Yankee on YES Hot Stove

Garrett Jones sits down with the YES Network's Bob Lorenz and talks about his career, his trade to the Yankees and so much more. Great interview and the more I read and hear the more I like Mr. Jones and his wife Cassie. Enjoy, consider this an open thread for the rest of the night.

  1. STONE MOUNTAIN BURCH, and I are on the same page tonight.
My rave on the Jones pc. went up at 9:01.

SERIOUSLY ***** Do you, like me, think that the Yankees are sitting back to make a
BIG run at Yoan Moncada ? I hope so. He changes this line-up. A gamer.

I'll end tonight with.............................the starting rotation, or do we have one ?

    1. FYI Stone Mountain is a good 4-5 hours away from me. Not that I mind the name, simply an FYI lol. I was in process of trying to embed it (iframes hates Blogger, another FYI) when I saw your comment. Great minds.

Yankees have to be in on Moncada. Doesn't mean they get him, apparently Yoan Lopez took less to sign with Arizona, but we are def. in. All in.

We have one, it's just held together by a rubber band.

  2. I think Jones is going to be a huge pickup for us this year. Not because he's going to put up all star numbers, but because he is a true first baseman. I used to be a tremendous Teixera fan. Finding a guy that could hit and field the way he did was extremely rare. But over the last few years , I've list respect. I am so tired of the constant days off he asks for because he doesn't feel 100%. I want guys with true grit. Guys you have to hide their glove to keep out of the lineup. We've talked about players who's salary should be absorbed. He's my pick because he's a Roger Dorn on this roster. Get rid of him and let Jones keep the seat warm while we wait for Bird.

    1. Also worth noting he has played over 300 games in RF and LF besides his games at first base. Short porch, left handed power, versatile, loves playing the game and wants to play for the Yankees. He has all the makings of a big pickup for us.

Like you said, not All Star numbers but still very serviceable.

  3. Very good thoughts Jeff..
Through the many championship years, we had many players play through the injuries and still did the job they were paid to do!
IF Tex starts with the "my, oh my, I can't swing a bat today", sh-t...I would make the move to Jones in a heartbeat. Let Tex know he can be replaced. In fact, there are about three or four guys that can be DFA or cut loose after next year without eating to much money. Tex, Beltran, Ryan (this year) Drew and Capuano (this year).
We have players in the Farm System that have talent give them a chance...as soon as possible, like now!
I think between us, we have named those that are close enough to get a chance and do well for the team, right now!
As Ken H says, "potential is potential but, that is all it is", or something like that. We also know, from years of watching players come up, even some of the sure fire guys, can't get the hang of the pace the game is played at. So, if they get a fair shot and don't do as well as expected, send them back down to get things ironed out. Mickey was sent down, Mattingly was called a good glove, no real power, Brett was deemed a 4th or 5th OF at best...on a team needing a lead-off hitter and CF he would fit in just fine.

    1. You have to wonder if, knowing the Yankees have a true backup now, if Teix puts on his big girl panties this season. Especially after seeing what the team is willing to do to keep A Rod off the field and out of the lineup, salary be damned.

  4. Ken - I'm almost to the point where I want to hit the reset button. Release Ryan, Arod, Teixera, Beltran, and Sabathia. Replace them with nothing but youth. Like I've said, if I have to go through another season of watching our team struggle, I want to see our own young players doing it. Bring me Bird, Refsnyder, Didi, Austin, Judge, Severino, and Lindgren. I'm ready for it.

    1. I agree and have been ready for it but, I wouldn't let A-Rod go...too much money! C.C. may not even last out the year with his knees, if they go out on him again...he has got to make a deal of some kind with the team and report as; "physically unable to play" and the insurance picks up from there.
I would let Drew go and let the kids play 2nd and backup other players. Although Drew can backup SS and 2nd. As for pitchers, we have more than enough to fill any gap.
