Prospects Month is over and Spring Training is in full
effect now as everyone has reported to camp and Grapefruit League games are
just around the corner. There will be many positional battles and competition
this spring including the wide open bullpen race, the last infielder bench
spot, and possibly the starting rotation. It should be fun because it’s a
change of pace from other Yankees spring training camps where 23 or 24 of the
roster spots are already filled.
Let’s take a crack at guessing the 25 man Opening Day roster
for the Yankees:
Catchers:
Brian McCann
John Ryan Murphy
First Base:
Mark Teixeira
Garrett Jones
Second Base:
Stephen Drew
Shortstop:
Didi Gregorius
Brendan Ryan
Third Base:
Chase Headley
Designated Hitter:
Alex Rodriguez
Outfield:
Brett Gardner
Jacoby Ellsbury
Carlos Beltran
Chris Young
Starting Pitchers:
CC Sabathia
Masahiro Tanaka
Michael Pineda
Nathan Eovaldi
Chris Capuano
Bullpen:
Andrew Miller
Dellin Betances
David Carpenter
Adam Warren
Andrew Bailey
Justin Wilson
Esmil Rogers
OPENING DAY ROSTER ?....so where is the going out on the limb pick ?
ReplyDeleteBold, creative, eclectic choices ? Nah.
They are good safe choices. The outcome from the next months games, will see
what is set in stone.
Starters, and bullpen should see a new look at that time.
Andrew Bailey won't be ready for the start of Grapefruit League games and honestly this team doesn't have much room for bold, electric choices. If it were me Refsnyder would be on the roster, Ryan would be gone, and Drew would back up at short.. but it isn't happening.
DeleteAndrew Bailey......from all I read, has gone from a player making the squad, to
Deletea candidate for DFA...............in 48 hours.
He's thrown five bullpen sessions already, because he was there early. All good.
I'm missing something here.
When healthy, he is a force.
Lets see.
Brian Cashman tends to downplay things a lot. Tanaka is going to be our #3 or #4 starter, remember? I think he is just tempering expectations for Bailey.
DeleteRyan gone, have Drew backup 2nd and SS. Refsy at 2nd base. Oh wait, no that makes too much sense. Unless Drew learned how to hit over the winter, Refsy should out hit him by a good margin.
ReplyDeleteAs the team needs hitting, go for it, Ryan can't stay healthy anyhow. Money dump!
Most (or more of them) power hitters in the AL are from the left side, replace Bailey with any of these guys; Lindgren, Pazos or better yet Webb! Let Lindgren get more work on his C&C and Pazos his slower pitches.
Sorry Daniel, didn't see your comment above!
DeleteYou make a good point about the left matchups with Webb, etc.
