On March 5, 1973 the New York Yankees made history by having
the first documented wife swap in Major League Baseball history. Yankees
teammates Fritz Peterson and Mike Kekich announced that they traded families,
including wives, children and dogs, in an interesting turn of events. The swap
worked out well for Peterson who eventually married his best friend’s former
wife and had four children with her while things didn’t go as well for Kekich
and Marilyn Peterson. These two broke up shortly after the swap and had to
watch as Fritz and Kekich’s wife went on to live happily ever after. You can’t
make this stuff up but directors Matt Damon and Ben Affleck will try to at
least dramatize it enough to make it into a major motion picture in the coming
years.
No release date has been announced for the project and no
cast members have been cast as the idea has been thrown around back and forth
and almost scrapped all together. The project, for now at least, seems to be
back on and should be an interesting watch if you’re a Yankees fan. I wouldn’t
go to the theater to see this but it will be something I will definitely check
out if the movie idea ever comes to fruition.
It was not a big deal back when it happened, remember it was back in the Flower Child and Free Love days.
ReplyDeleteROCKET.....I disagree regarding the Kekich / Peterson exchange of wives.
ReplyDeleteIt was truly a big deal here in NYC. Front page on all the papers, at times lead
story on the news shows.
It was not Charles Manson killing Sharon Tate, and others in California.
But it was so out of the ordinary, that even casual readers / watchers followed the
story. Exchanging wives ! Did that really happen ?
The country was still innocent then. We had standards, rules, and values.
Unlike the low end trash today, that is given the headlines.
I need not tell you that.
Patrick...
DeleteWasn't that the time of Free Love and rebellion? I was out of the country at the time and returned after it was over but still, not much was made of it in Calfornia.
Ok, you may have had a better idea of it than I did on the west coast.
I heard patrick tried it with the O'Hara's down the road and Anne Marie kicked him in the balls and that was the end of it. He would know. Still has the scar.
DeleteBURCH BEER....you almost had it right. O'hara's ?...no. It was the seductive
ReplyDeleteCarolyn Scalzo who issued the call for free love. And my scrotum was the targeted
area for Anne Marie.
Close enough, I've slept since then.
