Well, the Yankees went alright...down in defeat. I thought we would get more from Tank, but it looked like he was his own worse enemy in this game! His stuff was sharp his command was a bit off on a few pitches. He has been tinkering with his mechanics, so that may be the problem to-day.
ReplyDeleteBrett (the useless Left Fielder) hit a HR which saved us from a Shut Out on opening day!
I was glad to hear them quote Billy Martin on how to cover the bag on a throw from the catcher.
Gardner almost had two. If the wind wasn't blowing in he easily had a two home run game. Wind robbed one from Beltran too.
DeleteI am not panicking because this is the team I expected to see the whole year. Face it without decent pitching we won't be in any games. We don't hit enough. 81-85 wins max for this group. If that's what this team is then I would rather see it with the kids. Anyone want to buy my two tickets for Friday night against Boston? If so let me know and we can talk further.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you Hans. This team isn't going anywhere the next two seasons anyway if rather evaluate what we have in the farm.
DeleteBurch I couldn't agree with you more. If we're going down lets get the kids feet wet.
ReplyDeleteIt's the only way you know what you have. Plenty can hit in Triple-A, not everyone can hit in the majors. If anything you're building trade value for the guys you don't want to or can't use. Unlike what we did with Austin Romine who we will likely get nada for.
DeleteKen Hans are you and Daniel the only ones around here that believe this way? I think not!
DeleteI really am surprised that you came to that conclusion, not that I have an issue with your perspicuous at all, in fact, I applaud you.
They match what Daniel and I have been saying for the last year or more. I am thinking Bryan is not far afield either.
In the past I've not cared much at all about the kids, but I've changed my tune by finally accepting that this Yankees team is not a "winner". It's time to rebuild, and that starts in the minors with guys like Refsnyder, Judge, Bird, and Severino.
DeleteWelcome to the dark side, or the light side depending on how you look at it, Mr. VanDusen
DeleteReed I have said numerous times that this roster is a joke and if you are going to finish third or fourth that you might as well do it with the youngsters. I have no patience for Hal thinking we are idiots and say its WS or bust. This team might be better built to defend, however it is weak as chit and yes I used a c instead of an S so I don't offend anyone. I am not a Didi fan since the trade and he shows you bis baseball smarts or lack there off. Down a bunch of runs and your trying to steal third when a base hits scores you anyway. My 12 year olds I coach know not to do that. Yes its early but as Yogi said its getting late early.
ReplyDeleteThat was a bone head move by Didi, no doubt. Great thing about baseball is we have 161 more to go so you just gotta put it past you and hope it's the exception and not the rule
DeleteIt was a "Brain Lock" and will never ever happen again. I've seen it happen before, in many situations and never happen again.
DeleteKen H...
ReplyDeleteI wasn't sure what you had been thinking on the subject before, so I didn't want to write something that wasn't true. Now that you brought it to my attention, I do remember you writing what you just pointed out. Good thinking, you as the rest of us would rather be winning but, if not, play the kids.
I realize, right now we only have two spots 2nd base and OF/Utility we could plug in a kid. Refsy (in a few weeks) at 2nd, and Pirela as OF/Utility. Dumping Ryan (always injured), Petit, Jones and moving Drew to backup 2nd/SS.
ReplyDeleteYou could theoretically dump Chris Young and Capuano for young guys as well. If you wanted to get really invested you could pull off a DFA for Beltran, see what the braves did with Quentin. Hell the Dodgers owe over 50 mill in salary this year to players on other teams.
DeleteTrue Daniel, you have the idea down pat!
DeleteI was trying to take into consideration the big bear in the room...Hal! Hal might eat the contracts of Ryan, Petit and Jones but not all five of those guys.
Beltran may have a good year yet!
