It’s the final countdown…… Yeah I’ll stop there but really
we could be all witnessing the final countdown of Chris Carter in Yankees
pinstripes. The New York Yankees announced on Monday that first
baseman/outfielder Tyler Austin had been activated off the 60-day disabled list
and had been optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre. Chris Carter, you’re
on the clock.
Austin broke a bone in his foot back in February and has
been sidelined ever since but has finally worked his way back to live game
action. The Yankees first baseman have struggled for the majority of the 2017
season and Austin may be the remedy to the problem. Having Austin on the
roster, even when Greg Bird is deemed healthy enough to return, takes a
one-dimensional player off the team that is only there for his right-handed
power and adds a versatile player with right-handed power. It really is a
win-win for the Yankees since the cost of Carter’s contract is already a sunken
cost.
At the time of this writing Carter was hitting
.180/.279/.333 with four home runs in 129 plate appearances which is a far cry
from his 2016 campaign when he led the National League in home runs. Austin can
do that and play defense too. Make the move, it’s a move for the now and for
the future.
As soon as Austin completes his "spring training", I think it will be time for the Chris Carter experiment to expire. By the way, I saw your boy Matt Wotherspoon was promoted to SWB from Trenton. Only the 40-man roster stands between him and a bus ride to the Bronx.
ReplyDeleteChris Carter was another dumpster dive move by the elf and please people don't come at me with the 40 plus HR crap and they got him on the cheap. If he was so talented someone would've scooped him up a long time before the elf threw him a lifeline. Ya its only 3 million, but its a wasted 3 million.
ReplyDeletePITCHING....will bring this squad to it's fullest accent.
DeleteNothing less.
This rotation, as of today, will never advance beyond the first round. If they reach that point.
Pitching.
Well, at the time of this writing, Greg bird is eating shit in Tampa. BTW, Austin was striking out just under 50% last year. Headley isn't the answer, either.
ReplyDeleteThe Yankees depth at first base completely blows. Someone seriously needs to start fielding balls at first. Ie someone from the crowded outfield.
I understand this will be off the wall, somewhat...but that ain't bad, just a thought!
DeleteIt is always nice to have someone tall and left handed at first base....right? How about Judge at first base? Relax people and think about it!
He will be able to stay at the position for the next 15 years without getting injured as easy as an outfielder would. IF he can play the infield (some can't) at an expectable level, the infielders to his left would love to throw the ball to a guy with his reach. doing it that way gives the team real flexibility.
Power hitting, good 1st basemen, are not as common as one would think, also it opens up right field for another top line outfielder.
Just a thought, and maybe a bad one at that, but it is out there anyhow.
You're a wise man, Mr. Reed. OF will wear him down, over time.
DeleteThis is what usually happens to me. I rip a player and then he goes off with a monster game. Carter should have had two home runs last night if not for one of our own (a Yankees fan).
ReplyDeletelol Patrick called pineda a dumb idiot in april, then he pitched 8 shutout innings lol.
DeleteRIP AWAY!
