Even though the Yankees have 4 catchers they all are mediocre. McCann would be a big upgrade. He was 49 points higher on his OPS+ but that was after another year of seasoning in the minor leagues and one season more into his prime so it's not like his stats are definitely going to come down like Vernon Well and Travis Hafner's May stats.

Girardi loves Stewart for some reason...Daniel Burchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04212584396848733519noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2676591017018865408.post-6715272056075292832013-09-17T19:45:27.687-04:002013-09-17T19:45:27.687-04:00I don't see a place for Stewart or Cervelli on...I don't see a place for Stewart or Cervelli on the team. I don't believe for one second that Cervie can hit like he did at the start of this season (his OPS+ was 49 points higher than his career average). While Murphy gets more work in the minors, and Romine is the backup for McCann.

Stewart is an easy decision, as is Murphy back in AAA and Romine as the backup in MLB. Cervelli will be tough, but hopefully a trade can be worked out. Neither Murphy or Romine are going to clear waivers to get them off the 40 man so it doesnt matter if they are under contract or not. The only one worth releasing is Stewart unless you want to give up on a production Cervelli due to the Biogenesis thing. But keep in mind... none of them are under contract for 2014, so they can be released without it costing the team anything. Thus allowing them to "open the purse strings" if necessary. I feel it's necessary, you feel it's necessary, anybody with a brain in their head feels it's necessary. On top of that you'll see that it's totally possible.Bryan Van Dusenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02868262676393608086noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2676591017018865408.post-44617554938114361422013-09-16T18:13:25.434-04:002013-09-16T18:13:25.434-04:00Unrealistic because I cannot see Hal opening the p...Unrealistic because I cannot see Hal opening the purse strings when we already have 4 catchers on the 40 man rosterDaniel Burchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04212584396848733519noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2676591017018865408.post-3196396787133685162013-09-16T10:22:14.682-04:002013-09-16T10:22:14.682-04:00I don't see why it's so "unrealistic&...I don't see why it's so "unrealistic".
