Also an opportunity for us in the tri-state area to see a lot of their games as Trenton has a team worth watching and Scranton is finally back in their home park.fishjam25http://fishjam25.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2676591017018865408.post-52388629008609341942013-04-07T21:46:24.000-04:002013-04-07T21:46:24.000-04:00There;s been encouraging results every day in the ...There;s been encouraging results every day in the minors. Yesterday it was DePaula and today it is Gabe Encinas. He made his full-season debut in Charleston with 6 innings of 1-hit, shutout ball with 6 Ks. A lot of players reach their peak physical maturity at 20-21 yrs old and Encinas was sitting at 92-93 and maxing out at 95. See story here http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130407&content_id=44196908&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_milb&sid=milb<br><br>And my pick for breakout prospect of the year, Greg Bird is off to a hot start as well. The big 20-yr old 1B homered to support Encinas and is off to a 6 for 13 start with 5 Walks. I know its only 4 games but this guy can flat-out rake, has great strike-zone recognition and just a very advanced approach at the plate. I'm not an expert in swing mechanics but in the clips I've seen on Bird, he has very little movement and takes a short, compact stride and is direct to the ball with a smooth, powerful swing. He drives the ball to all fields.<br><br>He has a lot of parallels to Tyler Austin in many ways and I expect him to jump into the team's Top 10 prospects just like Tyler did last yr. By the end of the season, Bird's going to be talked about as one of the best pure hitting prospects in the organization. Looking forward to seeing Charleston play in NJ in a few weeks.fishjam25http://fishjam25.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.com
