Nova bounces back from rough start to beat Red Sox, 3-2

Ivan Nova gave up just 2 earned runs in 7.1 innings and Shawn Kelley retired all three batters he faced in the ninth tonight as the Yankees clinched this series with one more win over the Red Sox, 3-2. In this outing, Nova really never looked too bad, as he finished this one up with a nice no walk, 4 strikeout line to improve his record to 2-1.

Anyway, the Yanks offense, as you can see by that final score, didn't do a ton this evening, but in the end their third inning two-run home run from Carlos Beltran and fourth inning RBI Fielder's Choice from Francisco Cervelli proved to be enough. On that FC, Cervelli actually hurt his hamstring, with the details of the injury still yet to be known.

Besides those guys, relievers Matt Thornton and David Phelps also contributed to this W, inducing the last two outs of this game's top of the eighth. Neither one got their's easily, as Thornton's came on a leaping catch by Ichiro that robbed David Ortiz of extra bases and Phelps' came on a strikeout with the bases loaded, but still, they did get them. I guess that's good enough.

Yangervis Solarte Injures Left Leg?

UPDATE II: Solarte came back in defensively for the 7th inning, hopefully he is fine and this wasn't out of necessity.

UPDATE: Solarte hobbled off the field with the training staff but is back on the Yankees bench, not getting treatment, so he may be back in the game for the 7th inning.

This is getting freaking ridiculous right now. Yangervis Solarte has left the game with the Boston Red Sox in the sixth inning with an apparent leg injury. The Yankees don't have a healthy bench player to come into this game. This is about to get REALLY interesting. Stay tuned.

Francisco Cervelli Leaves In 4th Inning w/ Hamstring Injury

UPDATE:

Joe Girardi confirms that Cervelli has a hamstring injury.

Francisco Cervelli has left in the fourth inning of the Yankees and Red Sox game with an undisclosed injury. Cervelli was part of an instant replay where he was safe and originally called out, instant replay overturned the rule and Red Sox manager John Farrell was ejected from the game. When details are released about Cervelli's injury we will bring them to you, stay tuned.

Brian Roberts Benched w/ Back Injury

And the hits just keep on coming don't they. Brian Roberts was originally slated to start at second base today but was a late scratch with some sort of back injury. No details yet so stay tuned.

David Ortiz Admits Steroid Use In A Meme

Well obviously I think we all know this was too good to be true, David Ortiz will never admit it and neither will the league or ESPN, but the meme is still funny and I like it. Enjoy the game everyone!

Preview: New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox 4/13

The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox will complete their four game weekend set at Yankee Stadium tonight as a part of ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball telecast. The Yankees will send Ivan Nova to the mound to face off with Felix Doubront a day before the Yankees first off day of the season. All arms should be on deck for this one with the off day tomorrow except for Derek Jeter who got the day off yesterday afternoon in a Yankees win because of a tight quad.

Nova has struggled his two starts this season and has battled surviving without a curveball in Houston and was crushed by the Baltimore Orioles in his second start. The Orioles pounded Nova for seven runs in that start and evened up his season record at 1-1 so New York is hoping for a bounce back tonight against Boston.

Doubront gave up six hits, five walks, and three runs over just 2.2 IP against the Texas Rangers in his last start. Doubront has a 3-2 record with a lifetime 4.17 ERA against the New York Yankees so the Bronx Bombers hope to keep the bats going against Doubront tonight and get out of the series with a win.

Go Yankees!!

BREAKING: Derek Jeter Out w/ Tight Quad

The Yankees did not play Derek Jeter yesterday because his quad got a little tight according to manager Joe Girardi. Derek will also get today off and with the scheduled day off tomorrow Jeter will have three consecutive days off. No tests are scheduled, that they are telling us about anyway, and Derek is expected to be back in the lineup Tuesday against the Cubs. Great, not again.

Cafardo: Yankees "Best Bet" To Sign Hanrahan

According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe the New York Yankees seem to be the best bet to sign free agent relief pitcher and closer Joel Hanrahan. The former Pittsburgh Pirates and Boston Red Sox closer is seto to showcase his arm in Tampa, Florida for teams on Thursday just eleven months removed from Tommy John surgery. The Mets, Angels, Rockies, Rangers, Royals, Athletics, Red Sox, and Rays are expected to join the Yankees down in Tampa next week. I think this would be an Andrew Bailey type signing where we sign him to a two year deal eating the 2014 season to have an incredibly deep bullpen in 2015, and I like it.

Brian McCann Almost A Red Sox?

Brian McCann had interest in joining the Boston Red Sox this past winter before signing a very lucrative contract with the New York Yankees. David Ross, the Red Sox backup catcher, said in an interview with WEEI.com that his friend McCann definitely had interest in Boston before signing with New York.

Here is the quote from Ross:

"Early on I did (think McCann would come to Boston). I knew he wanted to come here, a lot. I had just told him what it was like here and that interested him."

"The Red Sox weren’€™t even close to what he got, so it really was a no-brainer."

Thankfully the Red Sox offer was no where near New York's and the Yankees got their man once again.
