The countdown has officially begun after Jeter hit a home run last night to pull exactly 1000 hits away from all time hit leader Pete Rose. Derek Jeter now sits at 3256 hits and now has 168 hits this season, leading all of Major League Baseball. All of this at age 38 which puts him ahead of Pete Rose's record by his pace which, at this rate, may never slow down.
5 MORE YEARS! 5 MORE YEARS!
ReplyDeleteWhich is feasible since it only puts him at age 43 or 44.
DeleteYeah, but Rose played 1B for 38 on (with some starts in the OF scattered in there). I really doubt Jeter can stick around 5 more years at SS.
ReplyDeleteNot that I think it is a good idea by any means but we have a DH and Rose didnt... If Rose can switch positions then why cant Jeter?
DeleteJeter has almost no chance of catching Rose, but he'll probably end up in the top 5. Among all the 3000-hit players he, and players like Molitor and Gywnn have been the most like Pete Rose; they did not compile hits by playing way too long after they became average hitters.

Would you consider Jeter average at this point in his career? Im really asking..
