New York Yankees Injury Updates Before The Weekend
The Yankees are going to need all hands on deck for these final 29 games and those games start this Friday against the Baltimore Orioles at Yankees Stadium tomorrow night. Let's look at the walking wounded and see if and how they can help the Yankees have an Oakland Athletics circa 2012 esque charge towards the playoffs.
Robinson Cano has been receiving treatment on his hand that was hit by a pitch on Tuesday night in Toronto and is a game time decision tomorrow night against Baltimore. The swelling has gone down so the Yankees will wait and see how he reacts at taking batting practice before putting him in the lineup. The problem is with Nunez also hurt and listed as day to day they do not really have the luxury of DH'ing Cano unless they feel comfortable with Mark Reynolds at second base again.
Michael Pineda is throwing off of a mound but still seems unlikely to return to the Yankees this September. He has been doing a throwing program for almost two weeks now but with the minor league seasons ending I cannot see the Yankees letting him get his work in at the big league level. Pineda is probably a winter ball or Arizona Fall League candidate to build up arm strength and innings.
Both Travis Hafner and Zoilo Almonte are limping towards comebacks with the Yankees as both players are hitting off a tee and doing soft tee and toss. Neither player look close to taking live batting practice or being in any kind of games, even simulated games, but it is likely that both would be available for the season comes to an end at the end of September.
