Phil Hughes gave up 4 earned runs in 4.1 innings of work today as the Yankees fell to the Tigers, 9-3, setting the two up for a rubber game tomorrow. While I didn't expect Hughes to actually pitch well today, I had a strange feeling that he might get through five innings. Apparently I was wrong.
The Yankees only three runs this afternoon came on a two-run home run in the fifth and an RBI single in the ninth from Lyle Overbay. Unfortunately, both of those hits came at times where they didn't matter. In other words, the way every Yankees hit has been this season.
