Now that the New York Yankees have signed free agent catcher Brian McCann they are turning their attention to 37 year old right fielder Carlos Beltran as their new top target. Mark Feinsand reported the "news" on Twitter this morning and it really perplexes me when I look at the stats.
Let's look at Beltran's and Corey Hart's prior two seasons, courtesy of NoMass:
Player A is Hart and Player B is Beltran.. one wants a four year deal and one wants a one year deal. One wants $15 million a year and one could be had for about half to a third of that. Sounds like a no brainer to me, sign Hart not Beltran.
Beltran also has a draft pick attached to him. Granted at this point it's just a second rounder for the Yankees.
ReplyDeleteGregory, welcome sir.....Good point. Not sure how much a second rounder weights into their thinking. They are both very good offensive players. I go back, and forth, on this one.
DeleteCome back soon. Your words are welcome.
I think the Yankees like Beltran enough to give up a second rounder. I don't think that is really in the back of their heads at this point.
DeleteBeltran / Hart :
ReplyDeleteI like them both, and will be happy with either. Your points are valid. I'm sure the ones kicking the tires know this. I think this will happen fast....anytime now.
They say Hart is healthy ? I hope so....They MUST NOT get this one wrong. No more wounded warriors.
Last season was dreadful. Get it right.
A tag on, to my last post :......forgetful. It was the point I was driving at.
ReplyDeleteSome ball players are naturals. That is, they hit / play longer than their piers.
Case in point : Raul Ibanez, 39-40 ? Still going strong. I see that trait in Beltran, and Soriano.
I like both of these guys. Sign either one
ReplyDeleteYouth is the name of the game for the Yanks, it has to be. they have age at SS, 1st and the OF. Need some younger guys to go with the vet's, don't you guys think?
ReplyDeleteThat is how the best teams are built.. always have been too.
