The New York Yankees tried to land Shin Soo Choo after they signed Jacoby Ellsbury with an attractive seven year deal worth $140 million. Choo declined the deal obviously and the Yankees moved on to Carlos Beltran but how nice would it have been to have that OBP at the top or bottom of the lineup?
I know I am probably in the minority here but if we could still acquire Choo and move Gardner for a piece that we actually need or can use I think it makes too much sense not to. Again, I don't want to move Gardner I just said that it would make sense. Even if it took "Ellsbury" money.
Here is a quote from Yahoo's Jeff Passan:
In the aftermath of Robinson Cano’s defection to Seattle, New York presented Choo a seven-year, $140 million deal, three sources outside the Yankees’ organization told Yahoo Sports. When Boras countered asking for more money – one source indicated he wanted “Ellsbury money,” or $153 million over seven years – the Yankees pulled the offer and signed Carlos Beltran to a three-year, $45 million deal.
Wow. That's crazy. Glad they didn't budge on Boras this time. Seems like they're totally scrapping the $189M plan.
ReplyDeleteBy my very unofficial account , guessing arbitration numbers and all that, we are about $23 million over the Hal cap including A Rods salary
DeleteAbout time the team used the same word many young voters SHOULD use more often...NO!
ReplyDeleteBooo
DeleteSorry but, I thought it was a good analogy.
DeleteThe only thing left out was, "when voting for a Democrat"!
Now you know why I can't stand any PC stuff. I ain't good at it and don't understand it.
I was booing your NO. I think Choo makes a lot of sense for us.
DeleteMore Political correctness....this is killing me. Third world, here we come.
ReplyDeleteThe San Diego Padres have renamed their AAA team, in El Paso, Texas... "The Chihuahuas".
That name will only encourage illegals to sneak into our country.....Yes, our country.
I would of renamed the team..." The Green Cards ".
They have some awesome hats and uniforms though
DeleteDaniel Burch, sir.........check out Brian Boberts wife, Diana.
ReplyDeleteYou may want to add her to the naughty..." Wifes & Girlfriend Section ".
Another reason it was a great signing !!
It is def in the cards I am just sick and tired. Sick and tired of being sick and tired lol.
DeleteMATT THORNTON..2009:
ReplyDelete“When I got to Chicago, [pitching coach] Don Cooper told me to simplify things. He was one voice for me there. He asked, ‘What do you feel most comfortable throwing strike one with?’ I said, ‘Fastball, glove side, inside to a righty, away to a lefty.’ He said, ’Where do you generally start a right-handed hitter off?’ I said, ‘Fastball, down and away.’ He looked at me. Then he said, ‘I want you to throw strike one however you want to. If you throw strike one with your stuff, double down. If you throw strike two, double down again.’ He believed I could live on my fastball."
and he has... if bartolo colon can do it for 180+ ip a year thornton can for 50 ip
DeleteI MUST ASK...this CHOO thing has me confused. Re: Remarks I read here.
ReplyDeleteI know Gardner was shopped last week...2nd base/ pitcher.
I know that Choo turned down the Yankee offer. Or, Boras did.
I know that now, the Yankees say.....Gardner will not be traded.
I know that now I read, at Greedy,... that Choo is a good fit here.
I know that now I read, at Greedy, that Gardner can still get the Yankees something they want ?
DUH ?
Round, and round.....what am I missing ?
Here it is...is Choo still in play to be signed here ? And if so, what source says so ?
I think the beauty of the hot stove is we wont know for sure if Choo is still in the cards or not until he signs elsewhere.. Just one of those wait and see things.
DeleteAnd the only source saying Choo to the Yanks makes sense is us...
Choo is a nice fit so say some fans (I will not name) but, at the cost of a full-time player? No, way in hell!
ReplyDeleteHe wants starter money for working part-time and coming off the bench!
Where would he play as a full-time player? No room in the Inn, as they say. Do you regulate Brett, Elly or Beltran to part status? No, not on my watch!
You have to think of it this way, and again I dont want to get rid of Gardner.
DeleteYou can have a left fielder in Gardner who plays exceptional defense, can play center field, and can hit at the top of the order or at the bottom of the order.
OR
You can have a left fielder in Choo who plays exceptional defense, can play center field, and can hit at the top of the order or at the bottom of the order AND you can fill a need likely in the pitching department with a trade of Gardner.
Actually I think, because of OBP, Choo is better than Gardner. I dont worry about his lefty splits because we are going to rotate the outfield so much it will feel more like a scheduled day off, which everyone will get, and less like a platoon situation.
I get it oh great Mystic...
DeleteMy problem is two-fold or five-fold;
1) Brett, Nova, Phelps, Robertson, Cisco are the only farm hands we have. There are others just needing a chance to show they can get it done in the Show...with regular playing time!
2) Brett, can do whatever they want him too, he was said not to have a HR swing (he showed, he did)! Now we need OBP, he can and will do that at the same time cutting down on his SOs.
3) He is more of a clutch hitter then some of the bigger names on the team. When he plays to his talents; line drives gaps and bunting are the order of the day, along with seeing a lot more pitches than he did last year.
4) He was the 2nd best avg. hitter among the starters!
5) I have followed him for years down on the farm.
