My Hall of Fame Ballot

I don't have a Hall of Fame ballot yet, maybe next year, but if I did it might look a little something like this. With the Hall of Fame voting being announced today it should get really hairy and controversial when all is said and done. There is some 35 players available on the ballot and voters can only vote for 10 players, max. Players need a 75% vote to make the hall and can be left off future ballots if they do not garner enough votes. I think we will see quite a few guys make the hall, probably not the guys that I am voting for, and I think we will see even more left off of future ballots. Let's delve deeper:

Mike Mussina
Roger Clemens
Barry Bonds
Mark McGwire
Rafael Palmeiro
Sammy Sosa
Tom Glavine
Greg Maddux
Frank Thomas
Craig Biggio

That 10th guy was hard to put on there because it could have been so many players. In my opinion the likes of Edgar Martinez, Jeff Bagwell, Mike Piazza, Larry Walker, Tim Raines, and Alan Trammell are all deserving and should be in the hall eventually.

This list is very steroid user or alleged user heavy, and I realize that probably only Mussina, Glavine, Maddux, Thomas, and Biggio have a shot this year but that's my list and I am sticking to it. I'm part of the new school I guess and I have no problem leading the charge. Forgive all steroid users and forgive them now.

  1. I agree with your list outside of Mussina which is shocking considering I am a Yankees fan. I do not think he is a first ballot Hall of Famer. He had a lot of skill, and maybe it was the era he played in with all of the great pitchers, but he did not win a lot of awards or really stick it during his time. He was top 5 Cy-Young winner a lot, he won 7 gold gloves. But I see him as a 2nd-5th ballot. Not a first. If I need to think about it for more than 30 seconds if you should be first ballot, you are not worthy in my eyes.

    1. I ask you to do more than just simply think for 30 seconds and push Mussina to the side. I have a post scheduled for tomorrow afternoon for you but I'll give you a little preview now. Mike Mussina is better than Tom Glavine. Lacked the longevity of Glavine, but was better for 18 seasons.

Stay tuned and prepare to be taught something :)

  2. Daniel / Ellijay / Master at Arms....this is from a Michael Mussina fan.

Throw everything out, 300 wins, is your ticket. Period.
    Glavine...305 / 203............Mussina...270 / 153. Those are the cards dealt. Glavine wins.
Jacona, could have framed his / her last sentence a bit softer. But Jacona is correct.
Next time maybe, for the Moose.

    1. Glavine also pitched four more seasons, probably two or three seasons too long, and milked out the 300 wins. Moose should not be penalized because he went out on top and on his terms. Throw out 300 wins and look at EVERYTHING ELSE and you can see that Moose was better.

  3. Daniel....the race is over. The fans are heading home. And gray skies, followed by showers...are predicted.

Tom Glavine's wife .....is kissing him. And saying..." you're the best, Tommy."
Mike Mussina's wife...... is kissing him. And saying...." life has been good to us."
Homer Baily...is kissing no one. And saying..." I want some of that !"

  4. Mussina gets 20 wins in his last season...could have pitched anothe 5 years in my opinion.

  5. Bryan...".stop, stop, stop...Mayor Ed Koch, N.Y. City."
Your fact is correct. But, you will never know,..... if Mussina could have pitched five more years.
    That ship has sailed.

    1. Sorry about the proceeding comment I deleted! I made an unacceptable mistake in my opinion of one of the players...Edgar Martinez...whom, by all the reports and information I have, was considered a "Class Act"!

  8. Hay guys, the voting is over and done with...unfair as it has been for the last 10-12 years.

If it makes anyone feel better...smoke this one...Glavine and Maddox pitched in the NL and couldn't get past the Yankees in the WS. "The Moose" pitched in the "AL Beast" so make-up your own mind but, for this year, it is done....the better man lost!

Frank Thomas and Edgar Martinez, were both part time players. Both were very good position players at one time. but ended their careers as DHs!
Frank "The Walking Machine" made a career of having the inside (on the black) pitch called a ball.
Edgar Martinez, Changed the DH position forever. The last few years he played an avg. of what, 2.3 games at 1st? That is a part time player.
