Thunder Pitching Stellar in 5-2 Win
TRENTON, NJ - Trenton's pitching staff held Akron to just three hits in a 5-2 victory over the RubberDucks on Monday night at ARM & HAMMER Park.
Jeremy Bleich started and allowed just two unearned runs in the second inning on his way to his first victory of the season. Taylor Garrison, Pat Venditte and Diego Moreno followed with three and ⅔ scoreless innings to seal the Thunder's tenth victory of the season.
Thunder pitching held their opponent to three hits or less for the second time in their last three games.
Trenton took the lead in the fifth inning with a run-scoring single off the bat of Rob Segedin. Tyler Austin reached on an infield single later in the inning to score Ben Gamel and give the Thunder a 4-2 lead at the time.
Gamel drove in Taylor Dugas with a single in the sixth inning to give Trenton the final margin.
The Thunder eclipsed double digit hits for the third straight game. Segedin made his first start since April 14 and went 2-for-4 with two runs driven in. Gamel and Austin also had multi-hit games. Every Thunder starter had a hit in the game except for Mason Williams.
Cody Anderson suffered the loss, surrendering four runs on nine hits in five innings.
The Thunder continue their four-game series with the Akron RubberDucks on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. It's Black Bear Franks Dollar Dogs Night and Kids Eat Free! The Thunder will start RHP Bryan Mitchell (1-2, 5.14), the RubberDucks will counter with RHP Joe Colon (0-2, 3.78). Listen live on 91.3 WTSR and TrentonThunder.com beginning at 6:45 p.m.
