Can't Predict Baseball: Ted Williams & Carl Yastrzemski Link
On this day in 1961 the Red Sox pinch hit Carroll Hardy for Carl Yastrzemski. Hardy would bunt for a single in the eight inning of a 7-6 loss to the New York Yankees. The importance of the pinch hitter was that Hardy became the only player to pinch hit for both Yastrzemski and Ted Williams in their careers.
On this day in 1975 Cesar Tovar, for the fifth time in his career, got his team's lone hit in a game in which he broke up the Yankees Catfish Hunter's no hitter bid. Tovar singled in the sixth inning of the Texas Rangers 6-0 loss to the New York Yankees. The Rangers designated hitter also got the only Ranger hit in 1967 against the Senators Barry Moore, the only hit in 1968 against the Orioles Mike Cuellar, and in 1970 against the Senators Dick Bosman.
