9/13 Game Preview vs. Baltimore Orioles

The New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles will play their third game in less than 24 hours this afternoon as the two teams match up again this afternoon in Camden Yards. These same two teams had a double header yesterday and will go for a third time in their four game set this weekend. This afternoon the Yankees will send Shane Greene to the mound to face off with the Orioles Miguel Gonzalez. The game will be played at 1:05 pm ET and can be seen on FOX and heard on the radio with John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman on WFAN.

Greene is coming off a start in which he did not allow an earned run in the contest and still took the loss against the Kansas City Royals. Greene threw five innings and allowed five hits but the Yankees committed two errors, one from Greene, which shut the door on the team that afternoon.

Gonzalez is coming off a start in which he held the Boston Red Sox scoreless for 6.1 IP in a victory on Monday. Gonzalez has allowed two or fewer runs in nine of his last ten starts.

Go Yankees!!

  1. Okay guys, I'm sitting here watching Quick Pitch on MLBN, and watching all these stupid celebrations by closers. If a hitter hits a mammoth homerun to tie a game and watches it leave, he's showing up the pitcher. If a closer gets a save with a 3 run lead we have to watch him "dance" like he just conquered Rome? Am I the only one that finds this ridiculously stupid?

    1. I completely agree.... to a point.

When it comes to a reliever getting a save with a 3-run lead, then going nuts over it is flat-out dumb. However, if a guy comes up with a big home run then what's wrong with admiring it? If a pitcher gets a big strikeout, then what's wrong with being psyched?

While it was great to watch Mariano Rivera have a been there/done that look after a save, it's nice to see some fire from players once in a while. The problem isn't the guy admiring a big home run, the problem is that guy or his team mate getting hit by a pitch afterwards. If you're a pitcher, and you give up that big hit, then you failed.. deal with it.

    2. I understand a fist pump from the pitcher. I don't understand Chapman's somersaults or Rodney's arrow. I hated Vera's bird dance. But the one that got me today was some closer from the Mets I've never heard of doing a fishing routine. What the hell is that?

    3. Okay, I will definitely agree that the pre-meditated dances and celebrations are idiotic. I'm just referring to the in-the-moment reactions.

    4. If it's not disrespectful then what's the big deal?

  2. Myself, I don't believe in showing up a player at all. A fist pump on a close game for a closer...ok! A dance around the bases as Gibson (WS) did or as "Big Poppy" does, is NOT ok.
I like the; done that been there approach...besides, that is why they are getting all that money!
If a pitcher were to show me up by shooting an arrow into the sky...the next time I played him, I would bunt a ball down the line and run him down as he tried to get the ball.
I don't watch many NL games, they don't do the "in your face stuff" do they?
