Throw Another Yoan on the Pile

According to MLB Trade Rumors there is another Yoan coming out of Cuba this winter and the New York Yankees are said to be interested in his services as well. Cuban right handed pitcher Yoan Lopez has drawn strong interest from several teams including the New York Yankees, San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants, and the Arizona Diamondbacks. Lopez is just 21 years old standing 6'4" and 190 lbs. who has recently showcased for scouts and will showcase again next week in the Dominican Republic.

Lopez has three seasons in Cuba's Serie Nacional meaning he would fall under the 2014/2015 international signing budget that the Yankees have already blown out of the water. While Lopez has not been unblocked from the U.S. Department of the Treasury Major League Baseball has already declared him a free agent which helps speed up the process. Many around the league thought that Yoan Moncada would be the last notable free agent to count against the IFA spending cap this season but Lopez may also be in the mix for New York.

Lopez throws a cutter, a changeup, a curve ball and a slider while pitching but relies heavily on his 93-95 MPH heat. Lopez has hit 100 MPH on the gun three times since beginning to work out for teams and he is only 21 years old. Where do I sign?

  1. It's about time the Yanks are going after Cuban players. I couldn't understand why the Yanks passed on all those Cuban players. Well better late then never. Now all we have to do is do is do what the Nationals did with the Scherzer contract. They paid him his money but over 14 years, that will help the Nationals in the short term. The Yanks should see if they can do the same with the contracts of Tex, CC, and especially A-Rods.

    1. First and foremost welcome to the family johnnyD. We cannot go after CC, Teix, and A Rod after the fact and change their contract unless they want to of course. Only way they want to or agree to it is for more money and/or more years.

Long story short, not gonna happen.

You lost me after the Cuban players comment. You spiraled out of the sky.
Please regroup your words, and try again.

    1. Basically, the same money but over a longer timeline, which means they will be paying him after he is done with baseball.
If this one flies, it may be the answer to some of the big money younger guys wanting too much money for some teams.
Big drawback is, that is ok for one maybe two players on a team, but after awhile one ends up with too many long range contracts tieing up big money for too many years. Then the question is, where oh where, does one get the money to sign other players.
It is just like having Tex, A-Rod and C.C. contracted for 8 more years for doing nothing for the same Total money as they are under contract for now.

    2. Yes and no. Instead of paying A Rod 25 million this year you pay him 15 now and 10 later. It's six of one and half a dozen of the other but that extra 10 million for the next three seasons would pay for James Shields on a cheap three or four year deal.

    3. I think I said that, more or less...did I not?
One could carry the numbers out for as many years as one wants two...it sounds like!

    5. Now I understand why I get very little rebuttal! It is very hard for the little people to understand a genius, as I am always right. Once I say something, there is little else to be said on the subject!

How's that one Daniel...damn, I like this no ban thing! LOL
