The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox will play in the
second game of their three game set this week in a very big contest for the
Yankees. The game is not big for New York because of what it means in the
standings or what could potentially be on the line in the contest, it is
important because the team’s top prospect Luis Severino is making his Major
League debut tonight inside Yankee Stadium. Severino was a perfect 7-0 at
Triple-A before getting the call to replace Michael Pineda in the rotation. Opposing
Severino will be Steven Wright for the Red Sox. The game will be played at 7:05
pm ET and can be seen on the YES Network, ESPN’s Wednesday Night Baseball and
MLB TV.
- Severino will be making his Major League debut tonight for the Yankees after going 7-0 with a 1.91 ERA in Triple-A with the Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Severino was ranked either 1 or 1A in every Top Prospects list for the Yankees prior to the season after he impressed many with his stuff, composure and ability to attack hitters fearlessly when he was with the team during Spring Training.
- Wright, a knuckleball pitcher for the Red Sox, is fresh off his best outing of the season when he dueled head-to-head with Chris Sale and the Chicago White Sox. Wright gave up just two runs in seven innings while collecting eight strikeouts in the victory for Boston. If it’s high, let it fly. If it’s low, let it go.
The Yankees stood pat at the July 31st trading
deadline due in part to the fact that the team did not want to give up top
prospects like Severino in any of their deals. Cashman just bet the house on
the farm and then went all in when Pineda was added to the disabled list so a
lot is riding on this decision. Those results and outcomes start tonight as the
fearless, and who some are already calling the savior, Severino begins his
Major League career tonight in the Bronx. Go Yankees!
Here is a highly thought of Yankee pitcher taking the mound tonight and fans are very excited about his becoming the Yankee "Savior"! If he gets knocked around in his first game some of those same fans will want his and Cashman's head.
ReplyDeleteThose are the weekend fans that know little about the game except, they want to win and if you don't produce the first time out...you are a bum!
Personally, I like what he can bring to the table and look forward to the game. IF he gets a "Whooping" so be it, as long as I can see some stuff! How he handles the beating...which I don't see happening...is the thing that would be telling for me. He has been hyped so much anything other than a great game (win or lose) will be almost as bad as losing a WS game #7.
Let's see IF he is the next Whitey Ford or Ron Guidry, which would be nice but I'll settle for the next Luis Severino!
The pressure is all on him, so let's see how he handles that.
I put him down as a win for 3 points in the Prediction Games, so that will tell all that I think (Hope) he will Win.
Yankees are giving him 100% confidence, something they never gave to Refsnyder. That helps more than you can equate.
