TGP Prospects Month Open Thread featuring James Kaprielian

We don't have much professional work to go on with Yankees 2015 first round pick but we do have a few innings from his time at Staten Island so I bring that to you tonight. Kaprielian was drafted out of college considered to be Major League ready already and the young right-hander did nothing to make scouts and doubters think any differently in 2015. Here are just a few of the impressive pitches that Kaprielian threw during his professional debut with the Yankees. Enjoy.

  1. Daniel, do you see him coming up on the shuttle and at the September call-ups. We don't have a lot of starting pitchers with his stuff...he reminds me of IPK, good C&C but not a fireman. Maybe even "The Moose" is a good comparison.

  2. Moose is a hell of a comparison. What I like is everyone is more impressed with him now than they were when he was in college. He has added velocity and dominated in a short stint last season. If he is Moose, wow we got a good one.

    1. That would be one hell of a pick wouldn't you say? I just don't have enough information on him to see him as other have but, what I have seen shows me he knows what he is doing and how to get it done. He may end up as a long man or the 5th starter for all I know of him at this point. I am hoping for a pitcher like a "LITE" Moose. Pitchers are a strange breed of player, that is for sure.

  3. His ceiling was a 3 starter when drafted, I've seen some mention him as a 2 with the uptick in velocity. I think you are selling him short as a 5.

    1. I meant that as his floor not what he should be...and maybe a little sarcasm!

    2. Okay, I can get behind that being his floor. That's still very serviceable, especially for the floor for a prospect. I'll take it any day of the week.
