Game Thread: New York Yankees @ Toronto Blue Jays 4/11

It feels like it’s been forever but technically it’s only been two days since we last saw the New York Yankees on the field this season. The game before Sunday’s game was rained out was an afternoon game and yesterday was a scheduled off day for New York as they traveled from Detroit to our neighbors from the north in Canada, the Toronto Blue Jays. There is no love lost between these two clubs after a bitter chase down the stretch last season in the AL East Division race last season. Today we will watch as Masahiro Tanaka takes the mound for New York to face off with Aaron Sanchez for the Blue Jays.

The game will be played at 7:07 pm ET inside the Rogers Centre and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV. It can also be heard on the radio with John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman on WFAN.

Be sure to click the Yankees Tickets link at the top of the blog to get your Yankees tickets in hand before the team returns home to the Bronx. Don’t worry, Ticket Monster will send you the real tickets and not the print-at-home variety. Support the blog and see the Yankees, it doesn’t get any better than that.

  1. Didi put down a good bunt in the 7th inning moving two men into scoring position and Ells knocked in one of the winning runs.
Back a few years that would never happen, because everyone wants to be the hero or get a hit (not wasting a chance to get a hit) not a bunt.
I like players that do whatever it takes to win the game, the numbers will come plus the player will be much more valuable to the team and will be paid for helping to win games...winning is why they play the games, not to make one a star!

  2. Reed to you think Didi did that on his own or was given the sign from Girardi?

    1. No, I don't think he did it on his own, although he may have!
What I was getting at is, over the last few years (not power hitters) when asked to bunt in those situations a few of the players would try a half-assed attempt to lay down a bunt and end up with 2 strikes and had to hit away. They used it as a chance to pad their total for the year and help with their Avg., instead of moving the runners along.
In other words, he played the game the right way...to win!

  3. That definitely came from Girardi. He's a NL manager at heart and Didi is hitting over .300, well last I checked. I don't see Didi making that call himself personally.

    1. Daniel you and Ken H are right, but I would like to think he did it on his own...even if we all know he was asked to do it.
Just pointing out how they (or any team) can win with just doing the things that good, well rounded players do to win the game.
