The New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to a deal that would send left-handed starter JA Happ to the Bronx for third baseman Brandon Drury and outfielder Billy McKinney. Man, starting pitchers are expensive right now before the trading deadline. Drury, despite his struggles, has shown versatility and has three years of team control remaining and is being traded for a rental. I get the logistics of it, both players are expendable on the roster and both players have struggled with the team at the Major League level... but man.. for a rental?
Good trade we would have lost both of them in rule 5 draft anyway
ReplyDeleteI disagree with the above comment considering both players already had spots on the 40-man roster and are valuable enough to protect. I think it was a huge overpay. I get that Drury was frustrated but I still believe that he'll fulfill the promise that Cashman saw when he traded for him. McKinney is going to be a good one. Long-term I probably trust McKinney more than Clint Frazier. These guys are going to be very motivated to show the Yankees what a poor decision this was. Happ is an improvement but he is no guarantee that we can catch the Red Sox. Maybe Cashman has a bigger deal that might come to fruition prior to next Tuesday. I hope so. I am excited about Britton. For the other, I guess you could say I am HAPPless.
ReplyDeleteNot a lot on the trade maket.I think Cashman should save his powder when a better option comes along.
ReplyDeleteTwo spare parts we dont need. We did not give up much to get Drury and u always thought his Yankee days were numbered when we discovered he had been hiding his medical condition. Andujar is our 3b. McKinney will never be more than a reserve. Glad we held on to young pitchers.
ReplyDeleteCashman saved all his top prospects and acquired two huge pieces for the stretch run. I am happy. I do believe that Happ was probably a bit of an overpay, especially considering what the Red Sox gave up for Eovaldi, but it is what it is. I wouldn't NOT make the trade, I just wish we would have gotten more or given up less is all.
ReplyDeleteAlso, welcome to the site Ronald Rubin, Woody Brosnan and the always curious "unknown."
