Dellin Betances Placed On AA Disabled List

The New York Yankees... Where Injuries Happen!

Another one is being added to the disabled list and this time it is Yankees prospect Dellin Betances. This is just the icing on the cake of what has been just a horrible season for Dellin. Dellin, like Ivan Nova, is going to the DL with a shoulder problem. Dellin is more then likely done for the rest of the season so let's hope he gets healthy and gets his head on straight this off season.

If you look at The Greedy Pinstripes top prospect list before the season started, seen HERE, you will see that five of the top 6 players on it have missed SIGNIFICANT time on the DL this season.

Skip Bayless Is An Idiot!!

I do not have to say anything I will just let Stephen A. Smith do it for me. Skip Bayless is an idiot. Derek Jeter on steroids and/or PED's? That has to be the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard in my life...

#EnoughSaid

Next Up For The DL, Ivan Nova!

"I wonder if there's something wrong with my shoulder?"

Earlier today Ivan Nova was diagnosed with inflammation in his rotator cuff, and was placed on the 15-day DL. As of right now it's nothing that will require surgery, or any other invasive treatment, but after seeing Michael Pineda's should issue the Yankees will likely be very careful.

And why not be overly careful? It's not like the team will miss his 7.28 ERA over his last 8 starts. Opposing batters will miss hitting .316/.377/.537 off of him over that same time period, but who cares about those guys? I think the time away will give him a chance to clear his head and think about things. I'm sure that going out every 5 days and getting bombed causes some amount of emotional stress.

Mike over at River Avenue Blues said it wouldn't be a "total surprise" if we've seen the last of Ivan in 2012. I wouldn't wish that type of thing on anybody, but I don't think that would be the worst thing in the World. With Sabathia returning tomorrow night, Kuroda pitching like an ace, Hughes throwing to a 3.78 ERA over his last 8 starts, Garcia pitching pretty well at the bottom of the rotation (outside of his start against the White Sox a couple nights ago), Pettitte coming back in a month or so, and Phelps having a 2.92 ERA as a starter so far (5 starts), I think the team will be just fine without Nova.

Looking Around The AL Central Disabled Lists

My post about the Yankees 2012 Disabled list, seen HERE, got me thinking on how this injury riddled season stacks up against everyone else. Now granted that post took me a very long time to do and I do not plan on doing one that detailed for every team but rather I am going to look at all the teams CURRENT disabled lists and compare them.

Today we're going to start with the AL Central. Here is an up to date look at the standings.

These are the disabled list and salaries of every team in the AL Central.

Is there any correlation between the injuries and the standings? I do not know so you be the judge. Leave me a comment in the comment box because I am always down for baseball debate and banter.

Oh No The Sky Is Falling!!

The Yankees got swept by the Chicago White Sox this week and have seen their AL East lead shrink from a season high 10 games to 3 games ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays. The sky must be falling in New York right about now and it should not be. The Yankees have been without CC Sabathia for now his second DL stint and are only 13-13 since losing Alex Rodriguez to a broken hand. All and all though the sky is not falling and I will show you why.

The Yankees schedule for the remainder of the season looks as so:

3 games at CLE
3 games vs TOR
3 games vs BAL
3 games at TB
3 games at BAL
3 games at BOS
3 games vs TB
3 games vs TOR
3 games vs OAK
3 games at MIN
4 games at TOR
3 games vs BOS

The only teams on there that worry me all that much is Tampa Bay and Oakland. Every series going forward is very winnable and in some instances capable of a sweep. Now let us look at the Tampa Bay Rays schedule for the remainder of the season.

3 games at OAK
3 games at TEX
4 games at TOR
3 games vs NYY
3 games vs TEX
3 games at BAL
3 games at NYY
4 games vs BOS
3 games vs TOR
2 games at BOS
4 games at CHW

That is considerably a tougher schedule then the Yankees have to face. Not to mention the fact that the Yankees will have, presumably, Andy Pettitte, CC Sabathia, Alex Rodriguez, Pedro Feliciano, and Ivan Nova back from injuries. Listen Yankees fans I know things look gloomy right now and you are starting to get a little nervous but we are fine.

Skip Bayless must be right Jeter must be on steroids after hitting his 3rd home run in as many days to bring the Yankees within a run at 2-1 Sox #Sarcasm

The Yankees will look to avoid a sweep at the hands of the AL Central leading first place Chicago White Sox tonight at US Cellular Field in Chicago. On the mound for the Yankees will be Phil Hughes and he will be facing off against a nasty left handed starter in Chris Sale. The game will be televised at 8:10 pm ET on YES and ESPN 2.

Lineups

Derek Jeter SS
Nick Swisher RF
Robinson Cano 2B
Mark Teixeira 1B
Andruw Jones DH

Ichiro Suzuki LF

Go Yankees!!

Nova May End Up On DL With Shoulder Tightness

Can you say blessing in disguise? I know that sounds terrible but it is kind of true. Nova is being sent back to New York to get tests done on his throwing shoulder after feeling tightness against the last batter he faced last night. Nova is already expected to miss at least one start and could be placed on the DL , which would not be the worst thing in the world. Let him get his mechanics right and more importantly his confidence built back up before the Rays series and the playoffs.

Joba May Be On Way To AAA

With CC Sabathia all but assured of coming back to the Yankees this Friday, 8/24, to start against the Indians the Yankees will need to make a roster move. The local blogesphere has been blown up with reports that the Yankees may make that move being Joba Chamberlain back to the minors, presumably AAA Empire State, to get some work (and confidence) in before the playoffs. He is on the active roster and will still be playoff roster eligible so I personally do not see a problem with it. I just want Joba to get his head back on straight so we can get another ring.

Former Yankees Update : Bartolo Colon

And another moron bites the dust. Much like Melky Cabrera not a few days ago another former New York Yankee has tested positive and received a 50 game suspension for testosterone. The Athletics, his current team, are in the middle of a fight for the wild card and this can only hurt their chances unless Brett Anderson pitches his behind off after a two year lay off. Bartolo, again much like Melky, did admit that he was using the banned substance knowingly so there's always that.

In this day and age why not just do it the right way? I mean come on people...

Andy Pettitte NOT Ruling Out 2013 Return

But he is not saying that he will, for sure, be back either. In the time filling news article of the day Andy was asked if a 2013 return was possible and he did not rule it out. I am assuming that he did not expect to pitch this little this season and still has that fire inside of him to pitch. I can only assume that if he did return next season it would be with the Yankees (or the Astros but the Astros suck.. just saying) and I do not see why the Yankees would deny him the possibility.

I personally would love to welcome Andy back for next season.
