Game Thread: New York Yankees @ Chicago White Sox 7/6

The New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox will finish off their three game set tonight inside US Cellular Field with another great pitching matchup. Tonight the Yankees will send Big Mike, and I feel like for the first time this season I can get away with calling him Big Mike again, Michael Pineda to the mound to square off with Miguel Gonzalez for the White Sox. The game will be played at 8:10 pm ET and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV.

The Yankees have one more series with the Cleveland Indians before the All-Star break and before beginning a tough schedule in the second half of the 2016 season. That second half schedule will make or break the Yankees as they have head-to-head matchups with the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, San Francisco Giants and others. If you want to see any games remaining this season be sure to click the Yankees Tickets link at the top of the blog. Also if you want to look the part at the stadium click the TGP T-shirts link at the top of the blog to get a Jacoby Ellsbury milk carton shirt or any of the other great shirts on the site.

Follow along during the game and all season long by giving @GreedyStripes a follow on Twitter and/or by liking us on Facebook. We’re social people and we’re always looking for new people to chat it up with. Maybe one day Michael Pineda will join twitter and give us a follow but until then we’ll have to settle for hopefully watching another gem. Go Yankees!

Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Chicago White Sox 7/6

The finale between the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox will take place today leaving just a couple games in a game days before we get the All Star break. I don’t know about you but I could use the All-Star break to recharge the batteries and I’m sure a lot of the Yankees players could as well. So in the finale of this three game set the Yankees will send Michael Pineda to the mound looking to continue his recent trend of good starts while the White Sox will counter with Miguel Gonzalez.

Pineda has been excellent over his last six starts which began after a slight adjustment to his delivery and arm angle was suggested by pitching coach Larry Rothschild. Pineda has posted a 2.74 ERA in that span and has held opposing batters to just a .201 batting average. The return of Big Mike ladies and gentleman.

Gonzalez will be making his 14th career start against the New York Yankees tonight after seeing a lot of them as a member of the Baltimore Orioles. In his career Gonzalez owns a 3-4 record against the Bronx Bombers so here’s to hoping Gonzalez, like the Yankees this season, is afraid of the .500 mark.

The game will be played at 8:10 pm ET inside US Cellular Field and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV. Any series where the Yankees don’t see Chris Sale or Jose Quintana should be a win but this series did not go according to plan. Truth be told the Yankees should have swept this series but so is baseball and so is life. Let’s just get a win and get the hell out of dodge. Go Yankees!

Game Thread: New York Yankees @ Chicago White Sox 7/5

The New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox are just about to kick off the second of their three game set this week in Chicago with another great pitching matchup. The Yankees will send their ace and stopper Masahiro Tanaka to the mound tonight looking to turn things around for himself and the team while the White Sox will counter with another starter who needs to turn things around sooner rather than later in Carlos Rodon. The game will be played at 8:10 pm ET inside US Cellular Field and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV.

The Yankees have one more with Chicago and then a short series with the Cleveland Indians before sending some to the All-Star Game and others home to rest for a few days. I think everyone needs a little bit of rest at this point for New York, especially if you look at their tough schedule after the All Star break. Check out the TGP T-shirts section of the site while we have all this time off and also check out the Yankees Tickets link at the top of the blog to prepare for the unofficial second half of the season.

Tanaka versus Rodon. Let's go. Go Yankees!

Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Chicago White Sox 7/5

The New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox square off again today in Chicago for the second in their three-game set. In the second contest the Yankees will send their ace and stopper to the mound in Masahiro Tanaka, Happy Tanaka Day Yankees family, to face off against a tough left-hander in Carlos Rodon.

Tanaka will be facing off with the White Sox for the second time this season, the first time saw the Yankees ace allowing four runs and eight hits in just five innings of work. Tanaka did not look sharp in his last start either against the Texas Rangers but will be heading into this start with the glorified extra day of rest he sometimes needs.

Rodon had an up-and-down start last time out against the Minnesota Twins that saw him hurling five strong innings before the sixth inning doomed him and led to a no-decision. Rodon allowed four runs on five hits in 5.2 innings and will look to be better against the Yankees. In his career against New York Rodon has allowed 10 earned runs in nine innings pitched against the Yankees.

The game will be played at 8:10 pm ET inside US Cellular Field and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV. The Yankees and White Sox have faced off already three times this season before this series and New York took two-of-three from Chicago in that series. You have to remember that at that time Chicago was one of the best, record wise anyway, teams in the American League so that was a huge series win for the Yankees. This would also be another huge series win for New York because it's the penultimate series before the All-Star Game. Get a win, get a series win. Go Yankees!

Game Thread: New York Yankees @ Chicago White Sox 7/4

Happy July 4th once again Yankees family and I can't think of a better way to spend it then the way I'm spending it right now. Steaks are on the grill, family is within shouting distance and the Yankees are on the television. This is America. In the game today the Yankees will send CC Sabathia to the mound this afternoon to represent New York while the Chicago White Sox will counter with James Shields. The game will be played at 2:10 pm ET inside US Cellular Field and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV.

Go Yankees! Let's see some fireworks.

Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Chicago White Sox 7/4

The New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox will spend their July 4th holiday facing off this afternoon inside US Cellular Field. It seems to me, as bias as I an, that the New York Yankees should be home in the Bronx for major holidays like this, especially since George Steinbrenner was born on this major US holiday, but that's MLB schedule makers for you so I digress. In the contest the Yankees will send CC Sabathia to the mound who had his start pushed back yesterday to face off with a familiar foe in James Shields.

Sabathia has been stellar for much of this season but his last two starts have not been much to write home about unfortunately. Whether that is because he rolled his ankle twice, his degenerative knee condition or whether the league has figured this new version out remains to be seen but for the

Shields has not been Big Game Shields since coming over to the White Sox from the San Diego Padres. Instead Shields has allowed 24 earned runs in 13.2 innings covering four starts for the Sox. Shields did deliver a quality start in his last start though so who knows if he's turning the corner.

The game will be played at 2:10 pm ET inside US Cellular Field and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV. July 4th Baseball. There's nothing better. Go Yankees!

Weekend Finale Open Thread

The New York Yankees game with the Chicago White Sox is in the books and so is the weekend. What a sports weekend this was too with the Yankees playing a trio of games inside US Cellular Field while UFC 190 went down late into the night Saturday night. I'm beat and the grind of work begins tomorrow whether I'm ready or not so I'm going to bed shortly.

So tonight I leave you with a musical recommendation out of my own personal collection, "Face the Pain" by Stemm. This is the into music to UFC everytime a PPV comes on and I had the fights from the weekend on the mind when I posted this. Enjoy!

Game Thread: New York Yankees @ Chicago White Sox 8/2

The New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox are on the field at US Cellular Field ready to play the finale of their three game weekend set. The Yankees will send Ivan Nova to the mound looking to see if he is past his fit with a dead arm while the White Sox will counter with their ace Jeff Samardzija. The game will be played at 2:10 pm ET and can be seen on the YES Network, TBS and MLB TV.

The Yankees face off with the White Sox head-to-head today this afternoon before traveling back to New York to play host to the Boston Red Sox. New York is off tomorrow to prepare for that series but the team has to take care of business today first and you have to click that Yankees Tickets link at the top of the blog while they play. You are going to want to see Luis Severino's major league debut and you can do that by buying a set of Yankees tickets off the blog and supporting the site. We're around every game so head over to Twitter and follow @GreedyStripes to root for the home team whether they are home or away.

Nova is ready and I'm ready to scrutinize every single pitch he throws after complaining of the tired arm so let's get to it. Go Yankees!

Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Chicago White Sox 8/2

The New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox are ready to finish off their three game weekend set this afternoon inside US Cellular Field. The Yankees offense exploded in the first game of the series setting up a tough series for Chicago all weekend long. The White Sox had to use a ton of bullpen innings on Friday night while New York didn't have to use Chasen Shreve, Dellin Betances or Andrew Miller leaving all three available for multiple innings if need be with the off day tomorrow. The Yankees will send Ivan Nova to the mound looking for another win for the Yankees and another series win while the White Sox send Jeff Samardzija looking to grab a game for Chicago. The game will be played at 2:10 pm ET and can be seen on the YES Network, TBS and MLB TV.

  • Nova actually asked out of his last start after complaining about arm fatigue after just five innings pitched and 75 pitches. Nova and the Yankees have stated that this is normal for somepitchers returning from Tommy John surgery and that Nova should be fine going forward, we see how much truth there is to that this afternoon.

  • Samardzija almost didnt make this start this afternoon as there was much speculation to whether he would be traded or not before the trade deadline. Samardzija will instead start the finale today looking to improve on his 4-1 record and 2.78 ERA in his last nine starts.

The Yankees have an off day tomorrow so it is all hands on deck this afternoon. Every game is important for New York as the team looks to not only hold off the Toronto Blue Jays and the Baltimore Orioles but as they also look to secure a playoff spot because they played well. The Yankees had the best record of any team in July and hopefully they can bring that momentum and strong play with them into the month of August as well. Go Yankees!

Game Thread: New York Yankees @ Chicago White Sox 8/1

The New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox are playing what once used to be rare for New York but what may becoming the norm, a game played in prime time on a Saturday night. Tonight the Yankees and White Sox will face off head-to-head inside US Cellular Field with Bryan Mitchell on the mound facing off against John Danks for Chicago. The game will be played at 7:10 pm ET and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV.

The Yankees have one more game out on the road after tonight before coming home to put the final nail in the Boston Red Sox season so be sure to click that Yankees Tickets link at the top of the blog NOW to get your tickets in hand. Until then jump on Twitter and give @GreedyStripes a follow to root for the home team while they are in Chicago and during each and every Yankees game.

Mitchell is ready to make his starting debut for the Yankees and I’m excited to watch it, I am a self-professed prospect humper after all. I predicted that Mitchell would be this season’s Shane Greene who was thrust into the rotation after an injury and that prediction begins to look correct tonight, we hope. Go Mitchell and Go Yankees!

Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Chicago White Sox 8/1

The New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox will face off head-to-head tonight in the second of their three game series this weekend at US Cellular Field. This game was originally advertised as a Nathan Eovaldi and John Danks matchup but with the injury to Michael Pineda the Yankees will instead send Bryan Mitchell to the mound to face off with John Danks. The game will be played at 7:`10 pm ET and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV.

  • Mitchell is stepping in essentially for the injured Michael Pineda to make the start tonight. Pineda was originally slated to pitch Thursday followed by CC Sabathia and Nathan Eovaldi although when Pineda was added to the 15 day DL everyone moved up a day leaving tonight’s start open for Mitchell. The 24 year old RHP is 5-5 with a 3.12 ERA in 15 starts in Triple-A this season and will be making his first start of the season for the Yankees tonight.

  • Danks has hit a bit of a rough stretch in his last few starts with his latest coming against the Boston Red Sox where he allowed six earned runs in 4.1 innings Monday. Believe it or not the White Sox still won that game over Boston. Danks will look to improve on his 37-47 home record at US Cellular and will also look to improve his 2-3 lifetime career record against the Yankees tonight.

The Yankees have a getaway game tomorrow afternoon in the great city of Chicago before returning back home to the Bronx. Both teams have been red hot coming into the series so this game, like last night’s game, should be well played and well contested. The July 31st trade deadline is behind us now and everyone can focus on the new objective, the race for October. That starts tonight, Go Yankees!

Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Chicago White Sox 7/31

The New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox begin a three game set this weekend at US Cellular Field with both teams playing extremely well since the All-Star break. The Yankees will see more than one familiar face this series with former members of the team Jose Quintana, David Robertson and Melky Cabrera all wearing White Sox pinstripes in 2015. Tonight the Yankees will send Nathan Eovaldi to the mound to face off against Carlos Rodon for the Sox. The game will be played at 8:10 pm ET and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV.

  • Eovaldi has been exponentially better in his last 10 or 11 starts in New York and has been especially good in his last seven starts. In his last seven starts Eovaldi is 5-0 with a 2.83 ERA and has held the opposing teams offense to just a .245 BAA with a .560 OPS.

  • Rodon is coming into this start fresh off a great start against the St. Louis Cardinals last time out. Rodon didn’t allow a run in 6.2 IP against the best team, record wise, in Major League Baseball while striking out nine batters. This marks the first time in Rodon’s rookie campaign that he has faced the Yankees.

With the White Sox recent hot streak in the second half of the season the team’s GM Rick Hahn was convinced enough to not sell at the trading deadline. That left players like Jeff Samardzija off the trade block and out of the Yankees organization, let’s hope the team brings Chicago back down to Earth in this series and let’s hope they make them regret not taking our prospects for “The Shark.” Go Yankees!
