Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Cleveland Indians 7/9

The New York Yankees and the Cleveland Indians continue their four-game set to close out the unofficial first half with the third game of the set. That game takes place this afternoon in Cleveland with the Yankees sending CC Sabathia to the mound looking to turn around a rough patch. Meanwhile the Indians will counter with a tough matchup in Danny Salazar.

Sabathia at one point this season was sporting a 2.20 ERA which was three starts ago. In the three starts since then Sabathia has posted an 8.31 ERA. He’s struggled and needs to turn it around, bottom line. Against his former team the lefty is a career 4-2 with a 3.12 ERA so the Cleveland Indians may be a sight for sore, cranky eyes.

Salazar was the American League’s Pitcher of the Month for the Month of June but July has not been as kind to the Indians righty. In his last start against the Detroit Tigers Salazar lasted just 5.2 innings while allowing three runs on eight hits in a no decision.

The game will be played at 4:10 pm ET inside Progressive Field and can be seen on Fox Sports One and MLB TV.  Just two more games before the All-Star break, you can hear the players quietly counting down the days if you watch the games with headphones. As long as it doesn’t show with the on the field product though who cares, right? Go Yankees!

Game Preview: New York Yankees vs. Tampa Bay Rays 9/5

The New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays continue their three game set head-to-head inside Yankee Stadium this afternoon with a day game in the Bronx. Day games after night games in New York usually mean two things, the ball will be flying out of the stadium all afternoon long and you can expect to see quite a few of your key veteran players sitting on the bench for this one. The Yankees will send Nathan Eovaldi to the mound this afternoon to face off against an old face and familiar foe in Matt Moore for the Rays. The game will be played at 1:05 pm ET and can be seen on the Fox Sports One Network and MLB TV.

  • Eovaldi has not taken the loss in any of his last 13 starts thanks to great pitching and a ton of run support from the Yankees offense. Last time out Eovaldi was limited to just five innings after giving up five runs on eight hits but the Yankees were able to win the game 20-6 over the Atlanta Braves. Eovaldi is 9-0 with a very respectable 3.32 ERA since June 20th.

  • Moore returned off the disabled list from Tommy John surgery on July 2nd this season and made just six starts before being demoted to the minor leagues. Moore dominated pitchers in the minor leagues after finally finding his command, showcased by recording 16 of 18 outs in a single game by strikeout, which earned him a September call up. Moore is now making his first start since returning looking to improve on his 1-3 record and 8.78 ERA this season.

The Yankees face off against Chris Archer and these same Rays tomorrow afternoon in the finale of the three game series making this game almost a must win for the club. Facing off against Archer is always a tough task for the Yankees it seems like whether it is day or night so getting a win today would be huge for the team’s confidence and their standings in the American League East Division. The Yankees have the right man on the bump to do that today with their leader in wins taking the mound. I’m confident, what about you? Go Yankees!

Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Atlanta Braves 8/29

The New York Yankees and the Atlanta Braves continue their three game set tonight inside Turner Field with Mr. Greedy Pinstripes myself in the building. The Yankees have done well against the Braves in their short list of Interleague head-to-head matchups and New York looks to keep that going tonight with another key victory. The Yankees will send Luis Severino to the mound tonight looking for his second career victory while Atlanta counters with Matt Wisler. The game will be played at 7:05 pm ET and can be seen on Fox Sports One and probably MLB TV.

  • Severino heads into his fifth start of his Major League career tonight looking for his second victory of his young career. Severino earned his first win in his last start against the Cleveland Indians where he went six innings allowing just one run and three hits on August 22. Severino threw a career high 107 pitches last time out and could be good for more if needed tonight inside Turner Field.

  • Wisler has been as home run prone as they come this season giving up eight home runs in just 22.2 innings pitched during the month of August. Wisler is in the midst of his rookie campaign with Atlanta and has struggled commanding both his fastball and his slider thus far which could be a recipe for disaster tonight against the Bronx Bombers.

I’m sitting in the right field outfield just over the fence and the Yankees are facing off against a guy that is giving up a home run every three innings or so, I may pull a Zack Hample tonight. With Mark Teixeira expected to be ready for tonight’s matchup and Jacoby Ellsbury hopefully back in center field as well it should be a great matchup for the Yankees tonight. I hate to say this out loud but in my 29 years of Yankees fandom I have never seen the team lose while I was in the stadium, never. The streak is on the line, Go Yankees!

Game Thread: New York Yankees @ Texas Rangers 7/28

The New York Yankees and the Texas Rangers face off for the second time in a four game set this week in the great state of Texas. New York has their big guns going in this series and will look for another win and another series victory tonight in Arlington. Tonight the Yankees will use a spot starter and a six-man rotation temporarily to give Masahiro Tanaka, Michael Pineda and the rest of the staff a day off by inserting Adam Warren and Chris Capuano as the starter. Opposing Capuano and Warren will be Martin Perez for the Rangers. The game will be played at 8:05 pm ET and can be seen on Fox Sports 1 and MLB TV.

New York is coming home next week to Yankee Stadium to play host to David Ortiz and the Boston Red Sox so be sure to have your tickets in hand when the team comes to town. By clicking the Yankees Tickets link at the top of the blog we can help you root for the home team against their most hated rivals for cheap. Until then head over to Twitter and give @GreedyStripes a follow to root for the Yankees while they are on the road in Texas and Chicago for the rest of the week.

Warren and Capuano are both ready and so are the Yankees and their bullpen, hopefully. Go Yankees!

Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Texas Rangers 7/28

The New York Yankees and the Texas Rangers will play four games to kick this week off inside the Ball Park in Arlington with the second coming tonight. The Yankees are red hot right now while the Rangers are more or less looking towards the 2016 season at this point which is great news for New York. Tonight the Yankees will push back Masahiro Tanaka and Michael Pineda a day while inserting Adam Warren and Chris Capuano into the rotation for a spot start. Opposing them will be Martin Perez who is fresh off the disabled list for the Rangers. The game will be played at 8:05 pm ET and can be seen on Fox Sports 1 and MLB TV.

  • Chris Capuano and Adam Warren will essentially piggy back this game in what is going to amount to a bullpen start. Capuano can go somewhere around five innings if needed while Warren could probably go two innings.

  • Perez will be making just his third start tonight since coming off the disabled list and will be making his first start in front of his home crowd. Last time out Perez faced the Colorado Rockies and allowed four runs in six innings of work. Perez gave up six hits and four walks while only managing two strikeouts in the loss for Texas.

New York is riding high off a big weekend in Minnesota and a hot start to the second half of the season and will look to keep that going tonight in Texas. New York simply cannot be caught in the American League East Division if they keep winning every single series they play so that is seemingly the plan going forward for the Bombers. That continues tonight in Texas, another game, another series and another victory. Go Yankees!

Game Preview: New York Yankees vs. Tampa Bay Rays 7/4

Independence Day baseball in the Bronx, New York and inside Yankee Stadium, no better way to bring in the independence of the greatest country on the planet. This afternoon the New York Yankees will play host to the Tampa Bay Rays for the second time in this weekend's three game series in the Bronx. Last night we all watched as Masahiro Tanaka and Chris Archer faced off head-to-head and this afternoon we watch Nathan Karns take the mound for the Rays and Michael Pineda take the mound for the Yankees. The game will be played at 1:05 pm ET and can be seen on Fox Sports One and MLB TV (I believe unless it gets blacked out).

  • Pineda has looked more like a struggling middle of the rotation pitcher and less like "Big Mike" lately forcing many Yankees fans to worry about the future of his season and the future of the Yankees playoff run this season. Pineda will have to bring his big game this afternoon in the Bronx against a tough Tampa team.

  • Karns has been the tough luck loser in his last two starts thanks to his offense forgetting their bats in the locker rooms. In Karns last two starts he faced pitchers with perfect-game bids which resulted in a loss and a no-decision for Karns despite giving up just two runs in 12 innings. Karns has faced the Yankees three times in his career and twice this season posting a 1-0 record with a 3.07 ERA.

The Yankees and Rays have one more game tomorrow afternoon in the Bronx to complete the biggest three game series New York may play this month. The American League East Division is a four team race right now and the Boston Red Sox are quietly playing much better of late and are slowly chipping away at the deficit they face from the cellar of the division making this series all that more important. The Yankees know this, let's just hope they play like it. Go Yankees!

Game Thread: New York Yankees vs. New York Mets 4/25

I had to tell all my friends, family and followers that are fans of the New York Mets that I was temporarily rescinding my friendship this weekend for games like today. It is game time as the New York Yankees play host to the New York Mets in the Subway Series. This will be the second game of the three game set this weekend in the Bronx and Yankee Stadium and it will showcase CC Sabathia on the mound for the Yankees and Matt Harvey on the mound for the Mets. The past ace vs. the current ace will go face to face at 4:05 pm ET and can be seen on SNY, Fox Sports 1, WPIX Channel 11 and MLB TV.

Get your Yankees tickets here on the blog for the Subway Series finale tomorrow in the Bronx or for any game this week against the Tampa Bay Rays. Through our partnership with Ticket Monster and by clicking our Yankees Tickets link at the top of the blog you will receive your tickets fast without all those shipping costs and handling fees associated with the price. Plus we’ll give you a slight 5% discount on top of that just for being a Greedy Pinstripes reader so you can’t really go wrong there. We put the social back into social media and would love to interact with as many of you as we can.

With that said I’ll let Mr. Sabathia have the stage. Go Yankees! #BeatTheMets

Game Preview: New York Yankees vs. New York Mets 4/25

The New York Mets and the New York Yankees face off once again today as a part of the Subway Series in the Bronx. Last night we were all entertained by the Michael Pineda and Jacob deGrom pitching matchup and today we have another one to look forward to when the Yankees send CC Sabathia to the mound to face off against the Mets ace Matt Harvey. Keep in mind that Harvey suffered an extremely mild ankle sprain in his last start and has some fluid building up in the ankle and rather than skipping a start in April to make sure he’s okay for the long haul he will make the start today in the Bronx. Maybe it’s the Joe Girardi in me talking but that sounds like you’re asking for trouble but as long as that trouble works out in the Yankees favor then I’m all for it. The game will be played at 4:05 pm ET and can be seen on SNY, WPIX Channel 11, Fox Sports 1 and MLB TV.

  • Sabathia is coming off easily his best start of the 2015 season after he pitched a complete game against the Detroit Tigers last time out. Sabathia allowed just two runs over eight innings however his Yankees teammates could only muster one run off Alfredo Simon in the loss for New York. Sabathia has pitched much better than his 0-3 record shows and he hopes to improve on his 3-1 record and 2.14 career ERA against the Mets.

  • Harvey was sick in his last start against the Miami Marlins plus he hurt his ankle and was still able to improve his 2015 season record to 3-0. Harvey has never pitched in the Bronx or Yankee Stadium and will be making his debut later on this afternoon.

Sabathia has looked better and better with each start this season and is finally giving some length to Girardi and the Yankees bullpen. Sabathia may not throw a complete game and give up just two runs today like he did against the mighty Detroit Tigers but if he can keep the team close I feel good about the Yankees chances against that young Mets bullpen. Only one way to find out and that’s to watch the game. Go Yankees!

Game Thread: New York Yankees @ Tampa Bay Rays 4/18

It’s time for Saturday night baseball on Fox Sports 1 as the New York Yankees travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Tampa Bay Rays. The Yankees will send Masahiro Tanaka to the mound to face off with possibly the Rays best pitcher in Jake Odorizzi. The game will be played at 7:05 pm ET and can be seen on FOX Sports 1 and MLB TV.

If you’re in the Tampa St. Pete area tomorrow afternoon you can catch a Yankees game by getting a pair of Yankees tickets right here on the blog. Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Tampa Bay Rays 4/18

The New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays continue their three game set today on the holiday that only comes once every fifth day for Yankees fans, we call it Tanaka Day. The Yankees will send their ace Masahiro Tanaka to the mound to face off with Jake Odorizzi for the Rays. The game will be played at 7:10 pm ET and can be seen on Fox Sports 1 and MLB TV. New York is still searching for their first series win of the season and a win tonight would go a long way to helping the team achieve those goals in this series inside Tropicana Field.

  • Tanaka was not the Tanaka that made 18 starts in the first half of the 2014 season in his second start this year but he was much better than he was on Opening Day. Tanaka pitched well enough to earn the win against the Boston Red Sox thanks to a seven run first inning by the Yankees offense. Tanaka held the Red Sox to four runs (three earned) in five innings on 97 pitches. Any step forward is good for Tanaka and he definitely took a step forward last outing so let’s hope for another step (or two) forward tonight in Tampa.

  • Odorizzi has pitched well this season allowing just one run combined in his two starts to start 2015. Odorizzi allowed one run on two hits in his last start against the Toronto Blue Jays as he pitched eight innings. Odorizzi has pitched well against the Yankees in an extremely small sample size of 2-1 with a 4.70 ERA, numbers that hopefully go up by the end of the day today.

I know it’s a Saturday night and all but let’s still come out and support our Yankees tonight against the Rays. Whether it be on the blog, on our Twitter account or down in Tampa St. Pete let’s support our Yankees tonight and let’s beat those Rays. Go Yankees!!!

Game Thread: New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox 4/11

It’s game time once again as these two teams play their second game head to head in less than 24 hours. In a day game after a night game you can expect more than a few regulars sitting this game out initially as Adam Warren faces off with Joe Kelly in the contest. The game will be played at 1:05 pm ET and can be seen on Fox Sports 1, the YES Network and MLB TV.

Get your Yankees tickets for this series, including the Masahiro Tanaka start tomorrow in the series finale, or any Yankees game home or away right here on the blog through our friends at Ticket Monster. Ticket Monster offers the same tickets, not the cheap print offs, for a lower price through our partnership with The Greedy Pinstripes without the annoying shipping costs or bulky fees. We try and live tweet each and every game we can and always have something going on in the comments section of the site.

Jump on and chat as the Yankees look for another victory this season. Go Yankees!!!

Game Preview: New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox 4/11

The second game between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox will take place in a couple of hours after these two teams played last night in the Bronx. Last night we watched as Nathan Eovaldi and Wade Miley got their first tastes of the Yankees/Red Sox rivalry and this afternoon we have a pair of now veterans to the rivalry. Adam Warren will make the start for the Yankees who won the team’s fifth starter spot out of spring training and will be facing off with Joe Kelly for the Red Sox. The game will be played at 1:05 pm ET and can be seen on Fox Sports 1, the YES Network and MLB TV.

Warren won the Yankees 5th starter spot this spring after winning a competition between himself, Chase Whitley and Esmil Rogers after Chris Capuano went down to a quad injury. Warren posted a 2.70 ERA in 16.2 IP this spring after being used exclusively as a reliever in 2014. This will be Warren's fourth career start with the Yankees and his first in the Yankees and Red Sox rivalry.

Kelly started the season on the disabled list and will be activated before the game this afternoon for the Red Sox. Kelly suffered right biceps issues this spring which delayed his season but he is healthy enough to bump the original starter Steven Wright back to the bullpen.

The Yankees and Red Sox rivalry is always fun to watch because even if one team is bad that season they still both tend to bring their “A” games to the field against each other. I expect no different today as the power house offense of the Boston Red Sox faces off with the pitching and defense first minded Yankees in the Bronx. It’s going to be a fun game to watch but it’s going to be even more fun if the Yankees pull out a victory, so let’s go Yankees!

The New York Yankees and the Kansas City Royals will play in the second game of a three game set this weekend at Yankee Stadium as New York continues to try and chase down the teams in front of them for the second Wild Card. McCarthy looked great in his first few starts with New York but has come back down to Earth in his last three starts as he has struggled to keep the ball in the ballpark. McCarthy has allowed nine earned runs in his last two starts after allowing only eight in his previous 11 starts with the Bronx Bombers.

Duffy is coming off a solid start against the Cleveland Indians last time out allowing just two runs in 6.2 innings. The game was ultimately suspended in the bottom of the 10th inning with the Royals trailing 4-2.

Smyly was brought to Tampa in the David Price trade with the Seattle Mariners and the Detroit Tigers and makes his first start in a Rays uniform against the New York Yankees. Smyly held down the Texas Rangers in his last start pitching 7.2 innings allowing only three hits and no runs.

McCarthy and the Yankees have not lost any of the right handers starts this season in pinstripes. McCarthy is fresh off a start in which he allowed just one unearned run against the Detroit Tigers in 5.2 innings of work and a Yankees victory out dueling Max Scherzer. McCarthy's first start for the Yankees was against the Cleveland Indians in which he allowed one earned run in 6.2 innings.
