The club outdoes itself this season with nights ensuring there’s something for everyone

CHARLESTON, SC – The Charleston RiverDogs’ promotional schedule is historically highlighted by unique promotions, desired giveaways, explosive fireworks and special nights, and the 2015 version is no exception.

Another spectacular highlight of the promotions calendar is the Bill Murray replica “Tune Squad” jersey giveaway on April 25.

We can offer these tickets for well below market value and we do not tack on the shipping costs or any fees whatsoever.

Yankees Game Preview 7/22 vs. Texas Rangers

The New York Yankees will host the Texas Rangers tonight in the second of a four game set this week at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees will send Chase Whitley to the mound to face off with the Rangers Nick Martinez. The game will be played at 7:05 pm ET and can be seen on MY9, MLB TV, and can be heard on the radio with John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman on WFAN.

Whitley has not made it past the fourth inning in his last three starts for the month of July, a scary trend for the Yankees. Whitley lasted just 68 pitches and 3.2 innings last time out against the Baltimore Orioles and took the loss on the game before the All Star break. Whitley will look to push his ERA below five with his first start of the second half and on eight days rest.

Martinez is being activated off the disabled list for tonight's start after being on the shelf since his July 1st start against the Baltimore Orioles. Martinez had discomfort in his left side but his pitched in two bullpen sessions since and has checked out okay.

Get your Yankees tickets for tonight's game and be a part of the Yankees cap night giveaway right here on the blog. You can also get in for any game during this 10 game home stand for some awesome promotions and giveaways. Get your tickets HERE on the blog.

Go Yankees!!

Quick Hit: Derek Jeter Day Prices Soar!

Late Friday the New York Yankees announced that Derek Jeter Day would be held at Yankee Stadium on September 7. The Yankees will be facing the Kansas City Royals on this Sunday afternoon. September 7th is not on the day we all believed would be the day Jeter was honored, we all speculated that September 21st would be the day the Yankees said goodbye to Jeter and thanked him for his services. It made sense, September 21st is a game against the Toronto Blue Jays and it was Derek Jeter figurine giveaway day at the stadium (changed to collectible Beanie Buddy night) but we all got fooled.

The last time I checked on Yankees tickets for September 7 they were going for around $139 bucks through our friends at Ticket Monster. At last check these tickets were nearing $500 a seat or more in some places after the announcement. I sent out the tweet to buy now before the prices sky rocketed and boy I wasn't kidding.

Even the cheapest seats in the house were around $15 bucks and now sit well over $200. You have to figure with this being the first day of the NFL season that the market will adjust itself. When it does come to us HERE on the blog to get all your Derek Jeter Day and Yankees tickets needs. We don't charge fees and we don't charge you shipping, the way it should be.

I've Got Til 5! - Yankee Stadium Giveaways

It wasn't looking good for an article this week. Some rough personal stuff, combined with the team's pathetic play, made it impossible to be inspired to write. However, while working on the team roster I came across the promotional schedule for the Yankees. Mainly out of boredom while waiting for the game to start, I decided to take a look. While there are some really cool things, like replicas of the 1999 World Series ring (July 20th), being given away, there are also some head scratchers...

1. April 25th - Herbs Seed Packet Night

I'm willing to bet that more of those seeds found there way into people's mouths, who thought they were edible seeds like sunflower seeds, than were planted in the ground. And those people that didn't try to eat them before throwing them out with a disgusted face just... threw them out.

The fact that this promotion has already happened is sure to cause some tears, but don't worry... there's plenty more.

2. July 19th - Collectible Truck Day

W.B. Mason has been a sponsor of the Yankees for some time, so I don't mean to insult them, but... come on. I'm sure many of you were disappointed to not receive a Hot Wheels or Matchbox toy, but instead get a piece of crap replica, at some point in your life. And I'm sure this toy truck is no better. The saddest part? That toy truck will be the first memory for a young fan visiting Yankee Stadium for the first time.

3. August 6th - Luggage Tag Night

While the previous two promotional giveaways at least make some sense, in that they promote a product, this one has me baffled. I understand giving away things like shirts and bobbleheads, which are adorned with a Yankees player and/or the team logo, but why a luggage tag? The last thing I want to do while flying, which can be a painful experience in and of itself, is be reminded of the painful team the Yankees are putting on the field these days.

4. August 22nd - Yankees Water Bottle

Unlike the other items listed in this article, I have no issue with giving away water bottles. Most people, myself included, should drink more water (and less sugary drinks like soda). And what better way to try and get a Yankees fan to drink more water than to give them a water bottle with a Yankees logo on it? I just find it funny that a company that produces numerous beers, that are as close to water as you can get while adding hops and yeast to it, is presenting this night.

5. September 21st - New York Yankees Limited-Edition Ty(R) Beanie Buddy(R) Day

You know who collects Beanie Buddys? Nobody. There was a time when Beanie BABIES were one of the hottest toys. But that time isn't in 2014, it wasn't last year, it wasn't even in the last decade. Beanie... whatevers... haven't been "cool" since 1999. Oh, did I mention that only guests 14 years of age or younger will get one of these Beanie Buddys? That means those kids weren't even ALIVE the last time these things were in demand. Oh, and the "DKNY" logo will make them even more attractive to those kids that get one.

Then again, it does have a "2" on it, and you can remove the "DKNY" ribbon. And to be honest, I wouldn't mind adding this to my collection of Yankees memorabilia. I think I'd remove the "ty" tag on the ear too.

Heck, these things are free, so perhaps neither I nor anyone else should complain about them being crappy. I just wonder how many more bags of garbage, and junk on the floor of the stadium, there will be thanks to this stuff being thrown aside by fans that just came to watch some baseball.

ICYMI: Free Book Giveaway "The Fight of Their Lives"

As many of you may or may not know I am a member of the Internet Baseball Writers Association of America, or the IBWAA, and with that comes certain benefits and such. A fellow IBWAA member, John Rosengren, is an author and his latest book is called The Fight Of Their Lives.

For this giveaway all we need you to do is one of three things to enter. You can either put a comment on this post telling us about the fight of your life, tweeting us the same answer by tweeting and following @GreedyStripes, or emailing us the same answer by sending a line to thegreedypinstripes at gmail. Multiple answers and submissions will be allowed.

Instead of me trying to tell you about the book I'll let John tell you himself:
One Sunday afternoon in August 1965, on a day when baseball’s most storied rivals, the Giants and Dodgers, vied for the pennant, the national pastime reflected the tensions in society and nearly sullied two men forever. Juan Marichal, a Dominican anxious about his family’s safety during the civil war back home, and John Roseboro, a black man living in South Central L.A. shaken by the Watts riots a week earlier, attacked one another in a moment immortalized by an iconic photo:  Marichal’s bat poised to strike Roseboro’s head.
The violent moment–uncharacteristic of either man–linked the two forever and haunted both. The Fight of their Lives examines the incident in its context and aftermath, only in this story the two men eventually reconcile and become friends, making theirs an unforgettable tale of forgiveness and redemption.
The book also explores American culture and the racial prejudices against blacks and Latinos both men faced and surmounted. As two of the better ballplayers of their generation, they realized they had more to unite them than keep them apart.

Also here is what Tom Verducci of Sports Illustrated had to say about it:
“John Rosengren does a terrific job illuminating the people and times behind one of the ugliest incidents in baseball history. The friendship and forgiveness between Juan Marichal and John Roseboro is a powerful story well told.”
Also Andrew Dawson, Hall of Famer, had a few words to say about the book:
“This is a story about passion and pride. It’s a story about two men who came from very different backgrounds but shared a common bond. It is also a story about forgiveness with a theme that shows it’s never too late to make amends. John Rosengren extraordinarily depicts how two men long since retired taught the world a valuable lesson—that it is okay to forgive.”

Also, the first game of the year against the Greenville Drive will kick off the "Battle of the Palmetto State" rivalry series presented by Sphinx. The winner of the season-long battle will receive the Rivalry Championship Trophy, and with it goes the bragging rights as the state's best Minor League Baseball team.
May 31: Sweetright Brothers - Muppet-like characters will be in the house to entertain the kids and the kid-at-heart throughout the night.
June 1: Luau Night - Hawaiian themed night with a special performance by the Fire Circus (Luau-themed fire dancers).
June 20: Zombie Apocalypse Night - The fun is infectious on Zombie Apocalypse Night as fans are encouraged to dress as a zombie and be part of the hoard -- or come alive -- and risk being transformed during the game. Hopefully we'll find the cure before we release the hoard into Downtown Charleston.
June 24: Terrible Tuesday - Come on out for a night of long lines, terrible in-game entertainment and promotions, and the worst music you'll hear at a ballgame all year! It's Unsatisfaction Guaranteed!
July 4: Independence Day Fireworks Celebration Presented by Wells Fargo - This is simply the largest fireworks show in downtown Charleston.  After we defeat the Rome Braves, kick back and enjoy the sky light up over the scenic Ashley River.
July 16: Holiday Celebration - Enjoy it all as we celebrate a year's worth of holidays in just one night. Each inning will be a different holiday, from New Year's Eve during pregame to Christmas in the 9th frame.
July 20: Pirates & Princess Night - Youngsters will work together to find The Joe's hidden treasure.
August 2: Inflatamaniacs Appearance and Rainbows Night - A performance that brings laughs to fans of all ages as the inflatable crew brings their unique brand of hijinks to The Joe for the fourth straight year. We will also turn back the clock and tip our caps to the days when names like David Cone and Roberto Alomar called Charleston home. The RiverDogs team will become the Charleston Rainbows again, complete with throwback Rainbows uniforms, for one night only. Those jerseys will also be auctioned off during the game. It's a salute to days past, and a chance for fans to remember the Charleston Rainbows and legendary College Park.

STANDARD NIGHTLY PROMOS
Mondays: Dogs with a Cause and $1 Dogs and Beers - The RiverDogs partner with a local non-profit organization to generate exposure and funds for a specific cause.  Mondays are also Dollar Dogs and Beers nights, thanks to our friends at Coors, as fans can enjoy $1 drafts and $1 hot dogs in the Ashley View Pub.
Tuesdays: Two-for-$20 Date Nights - Tuesdays can be special night as for only $20 fans can enjoy a pair of upper reserve tickets, two tacos, two small fountain drinks and a plate of nachos by showing their Harris Teeter VIC card at the box office.
Wednesdays: Guaranteed Win & Senior Wednesdays - All fans 65 and older who enter the gates before 7pm can eat free, thanks to HealthSouth, as they receive a complimentary hot dog, fountain drink and chips for coming to mid-week RiverDogs games as part of MeTV Senior Wednesdays. All fans will also be able to take advantage of an early bird special on Wednesday's purchase a hot dog, fries and a 16 ounce fountain drink for only $6 before 7pm, a $2 savings than when purchased any other time. And the team "guarantees" a win on Wednesdays. Put simply, if the RiverDogs don't win on Wednesday night games at Riley Park, the club will honor your ticket for free admission to the next Wednesday home game. All you have to do is hold on to your ticket.
Thursdays: Thirsty Thursdays - Get an early start on the weekend with $1 beers in the Ashley View Pub presented by Budweiser. Returning again this year will be DJ Natty Heavy, who spins popular tunes throughout the game much to the musical delight of those in that special area. There will also be a wing eating competition every Thirsty Thursday in the Ashley View Pub thanks to Wild Wing Café. Plus, once DJ Natty Heavy packs up his speakers and calls it a night, the RiverDogs are proud to announce a partnership with Palmetto Brewery to bring postgame concerts to The Joe after every Thirsty Thursday game. A different band will perform a free concert for everyone in attendance on the concourse adjacent to the Beer Garden inside Riley Park following the game's final out.
Fridays: Postgame Fireworks & Red Shirt Fridays - This popular night makes a return as fans who wear red to the ballpark receive $1 off their walk-up ticket on ISHPI Red Shirt Fridays. Thanks to ISHPI, fans can then choose to donate that dollar to help benefit two military themed charities: Folds of Honor Foundation, a charity that gives back the children and spouses of soldiers killed or disabled in service to our country through scholarships and other assistance, and Canines for Veterans, the wounded-veteran service organization that brings "Titus the Bat Dog" to The Joe to retrieve bats during the game. Every Friday will be punctuated with explosive postgame fireworks. Fans are encouraged to secure their tickets in advance for this trendy night at The Joe.
Saturdays: Giveaways on Select Saturdays and Kids Run the Bases - To assist with families, all Saturday game times again this season have been moved up to 6:05 pm. Select Saturday games feature free collectable giveaway items to the first 1,000 fans. Plus on August 17, the club will give away a Charlie T. RiverDog coloring book to the first 1,000 fans through the gates. Following the action on the field every Saturday, all kids can stick around and run the bases, and everyone is "safe."
Sundays: Kids Club Sundays - Presented by Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission, Crews Subaru and Y102.5, Sundays at Riley Park feature Free Parking and Kids Eat Free as all members of the RiverDogs Kids Club get a voucher for a free meal upon entering. The RiverDogs Kids Club, known as the RiverPups, is free to join and open to all kids 12-under. But that's not all as the RiverDogs pull out all the stops to cater to families, offering a pregame catch on the field and the popular postgame autograph session with the entire RiverDogs team and loveable mascots, Charlie T. RiverDog, Chelsea and Bark.
