This Day in New York Yankees History 6/23: Cleveland ROCKED!

On this day in 1996 the Yankees showed how much of a "never count us out" team they really were when they behind early only to come back with nine runs in the sixth inning. The Yankees would win the game 11-9 at Jacobs Field over the Cleveland Indians and it would complete the first time the Yankees would sweep the Indians in Cleveland in a four game series since 1964.

Also on this day in 1950 the Detroit Tigers and the New York Yankees combined for 11 home runs in a nine inning game, a major league record for the most in a single game. Hoot Evers hit the historic home run as a walk off home to give the Tigers a very dramatic 10-9 victory over New York.

Finally on this day in 1915 the Philadelphia Athletics pitcher Bruno Hass made his major league debut against the New York Yankees at the very historic Shibe Park. The good news was the 24 year old southpaw, known as Boon, tossed a complete game in the contest and in the start established a post-1900 major league record. The bad news was the record was for issuing 16 walks during the nine inning game in a 15-7 loss to the Yankees.

This Day in New York Yankees History 7/22: The Mick Mans Shortstop

As you probably know we like to bring you this day in New York Yankees history every single day for better or worse. Well today it's the worse as on this day in 2012 the Yankees set a franchise record and not one they want to remember. The Oakland Athletics would tie the game with a run in the bottom of the ninth inning and would later complete the sweep with a 5-4 walk off victory of the Yankees in the 12th inning. This marks the first time in Yankees history that New York was swept in a four game series while losing all four games by only one run. Ouch.

Also on this day in 2007 the Yankees knocked around Devil Rays pitcher Shawn Camp to the tune of three home runs and nine hits in 1.1 innings of relief. The Yankees would rout the Rays 21-4 and send the Yankee Stadium crowd home happy.

Finally on this day in 1954 Casey Stengel, probably the best manager of all time in my opinion, moved Mickey Mantle to shortstop from center field in the top of the 9th inning to add another bat to the lineup. Mantle would respond by hitting a walk off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to beat the White Sox 4-3.

Game Preview: New York Yankees vs. Colorado Rockies 6/21

The New York Yankees and the Colorado Rockies face off again head-to-head this week but this time the pitchers won’t be hitting and the air isn’t rarified. This time the game goes down in the Bronx in front of the Yankee Stadium faithful. This time around the Rockies will send a familiar face in Chad Bettis to the mound to face off with the Yankees starter Ivan Nova.

Nova has not been sharp in his last five starts while Luis Severino is looking better and better with each start down in Triple-A with the RailRiders. If Nova wants to keep his starting job he’s going to have to prove it and posting a 6.30 ERA like he has in his last five starts is far from proving it. Nova has allowed five runs in two of his last three starts leaving many to wonder when the chants for Severino will begin again in the Bronx.

Bettis faced the Yankees his last time out and earned his first victory since May 17th in the contest. Bettis earned his fifth win of the season last Wednesday thanks to his Rockies offense behind him that has given him 5.43 runs of support per game this season.

The game will be played at 7:05 pm ET inside Yankee Stadium and can be seen on WPIX Channel 11 and MLB TV. The last time these two teams faced off head-to-head the Rockies swept away the Yankees in Coors Field in a short two-game set and the Yankees will look to return the favor tonight in the Bronx with a sweep of their own. How sweep it would be, now get it done. Go Yankees!

Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Oakland Athletics 5/22

The New York Yankees and the Oakland Athletics will finish off their four game set this afternoon on the west coast with the finale of the series. The Yankees have won the first three games of this series and it hasn't been close in many of the starts. This afternoon the Yankees will go for the sweep with Michael Pineda on the mound looking to turn his season around. With their eyes on spoiling the Yankees sweep the Athletics will send Jessee Hahn to the mound to oppose him.

Pineda has had one big struggle in 2016 with one exception, an April 19th start against the Oakland Athletics earlier this season in the Bronx. In the start Pineda allowed just two runs and seven hits in six innings pitched while striking out seven batters. Pineda is 2-1 in his career with a 2.25 ERA in four starts against the Athletics.

Hahn hasn't been back from the minor leagues long and has faced a pair of tough opponents since his return to Oakland. In his first start against the Texas Rangers he allowed three runs on 10 hits in 6.2 innings and will face New York in the second start since his promotion this afternoon inside the Oakland County Coliseum.

The game will be played at 4:05 pm ET inside the Oakland County Coliseum and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV. The Yankees want to know how sweep it is and so do I. No clever antics or writings here, get the victory and let's go home. Go Yankees! All Business!!

Game Thread: New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox 5/8

The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox are set to finish off their three game set tonight inside Yankee Stadium with the Bronx Bombers looking to return a favor. That favor is a sweep as the Red Sox swept away the Yankees inside of Fenway Park last week while New York has won the first two games this weekend in the Bronx. If the Yankees want to sweep past Boston the offense will need to show up once again and they will have to get a good pitching performance from Luis Severino. Donned with the task of getting out of New York with a victory for the Boston Red Sox is Steven Wright. The game will be played at 8:05 pm ET and can be seen on ESPN as a part of ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball.

The Yankees welcome the defending World Series champion Kansas City Royals to town tomorrow and they welcome closer Aroldis Chapman to the team tomorrow night in the Bronx. To see these two major events live inside Yankee Stadium click the Yankees Tickets link at the top of the blog to visit Ticket Monster and to grab a pair of premium tickets for non-premium prices. Until then though you can always follow along on Twitter by giving @GreedyStripes a follow as we try and live tweet each and every Yankees game each and every season.

How sweep it is? How sweep it would be. Make it happen. Go Yankees!

Starting the Rally Cry Against the Toronto Blue Jays

The New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays make the trip north tonight to the Rogers Centre to start a big three game series over the weekend. Including tonight's contest these two teams have 10 games remaining head-to-head in a division race that is looking likely to go down to the wire. We all know the Yankees offense has struggled over the past week or so and we all watched as the Toronto Blue Jays swept away the Yankees inside Yankee Stadium last week, but who cares? That was then, this is now. This is why you play a game every single day in the Major League Baseball schedule and this is why you play 162 games over the course of a season. Those games don't mean nothing, but they are less and less important if the Yankees sweep them back over this weekend or get a much needed series win against their new foes in the AL East.

So here is my rally cry for the Yankees, my plea to shut up all the haters, to quiet the fans that are ready to jump off the bandwagon and attend games in Queens at a moment's notice and let's here's to quelling the thought that the mighty Yankees will miss the postseason altogether for a third straight season. The Yankees can right the ship and they will, talent wins out more times than not, but they need you to do your part so that they can do their part. Stop being negative, stop the booing, stop digging the grave for the 2015 Yankees on just August 14th and start the rally cry for the Yankees season in your area.

We'll be on Twitter all series long, and all season long, so head on over to the app and give @GreedyStripes a follow. Tag us in your rally cry, because the rally party starts here. #SWEEPTHEJAYS

TGP Daily Poll: Another Series, Another Series Win

The Yankees have made it a habit of winning every single series they are a part of and that won’t change this weekend in Minnesota. New York may not sweep the Twins but they will definitely take two games out of three.

TGP Daily Poll: Yankees Get Boston Strong For A Weekend

The New York Yankees are going to get “Boston Strong” this weekend and win the series with at least two victories over their rivals, the Boston Red Sox. A sweep would be better because it could bury Boston but I can’t see it happening.

TGP Daily Poll: Yankees Sweep Oakland

The first time the Yankees and Athletics faced off this season Oakland shocked New York winning three games of four. That won't happen again as the New York Yankees stay hot and sweep the A's in three games.

TGP Daily Poll: A Weekend Sweep in Kansas City

The Yankees have made it a habit of beating the teams many didn’t think they should including three of four against the then best record having Detroit Tigers and two of three against the then best recording having New York Mets. This weekend it’s going to be a clean sweep of the first place Kansas City Royals.

The first time the Tampa Bay Rays and the New York Yankees faced off this season New York swept away the Rays inside Tropicana Field. This time they play inside Yankee Stadium but it won't matter, the Yankees will win the series again.

Kansas City Swept San Francisco In August

In case you have been living under a rock this month the Wild Card winning San Francisco Giants and Kansas City Royals will play in only the second ever Wild Card only World Series starting next week. With the addition of Interleague Play this will not be the first time this season these two teams have squared off as the two faced off in San Francisco at the beginning of August. During the three game set the Royals swept the Giants in convincing fashion but does it mean anything? Probably not, but let's have fun with it anyway.

Kansas City beat the Giants by the scores of 4-2, 5-0, and 7-4 during the series winning games the way they have all postseason long. The Royals had timely hitting, power when they needed it, and shutdown pitching from the bullpen. It's been their recipe all season long, it's been the recipe all postseason long, and will be the recipe all World Series long.

Good luck to both squads as the 2014 Fall Classic gets started next week on FOX.

The Red Sox and Three Game Winning Streaks... Meme

True, at least up to date this season. All this trash talking may be a reverse jinx, only time will tell. Enjoy the game Yankees family and let's sweep those Sox so David Ortiz has something to complain about.
