Game Thread: New York Yankees @ Boston Red Sox 9/18
Here we go ladies and gentleman one last time between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox inside Fenway Park. If the Yankees had hopes of making the postseason this year those dreams are likely shot down the drown after losing each of the first three games in this series to Boston. Now New York merely looks to get out of Boston alive and with a victory and we can watch it all go down on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball at 8:08 pm ET. Tonight's starting pitching matchup features CC Sabathia for the Yankees and Drew Pomeranz for the Red Sox.
The Yankees continue their final road trip of the season before finishing the season at home inside Yankee Stadium with a series with these same Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles. If you want to see either of those series live and in person before the Yankees are done for good this season clikc the Yankees Tickets link at the top of the blog and secure your seats now with us.

Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Boston Red Sox 9/18
The final game of the 2016 regular season inside Fenway Park for the New York Yankees and only one word comes to mind, Hallelujah. The Yankees have not fared well inside Fenway Park this season nor have they had a fun time against the Boston Red Sox but I guess that's baseball. Boston is the better team and that's just how it goes sometimes. That doesn't mean the Yankees will go down without a fight tonight or this season and that fight continues tonight when New York sends CC Sabathia to the mound in the finale of the four-game series to square off with the Red Sox starter Drew Pomeranz.
Sabathia has been pitching well lately although in many cases he has not received the victory despite pitching well enough to win. Last time out CC threw 6.1 innings allowing just three hits and no runs with seven strikeouts but received a no-decision. Sabathia has pitched to a 2.40 ERA in his last five starts spanning 30 innings pitched.
Pomeranz was in the middle of controversy this week as his former GM AJ Preller was suspended for 30 days due to holding back medical records from his new team, the Red Sox. Whether that affected his performance last time out or not is anyone's guess but his four hits and five runs allowed in two innings against the Orioles was not great by any standard.
The game will be played at 8:08 pm ET inside Fenway Park and can be seen on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball program. One last time this season inside Fenway Park, one last time. Let's end the Fenway Park part of this season with a victory and end it on a high note. Go Yankees!!!!

Game Thread: New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox 7/17
The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox will face off tonight in the finale of their three-game set in the Bronx. At one point in my life I would have made the comment that the Yankees would be playing in the heart of Red Sox Nation despite being in the Bronx because the game is being broadcast on ESPN or I would have even gone the immature route and called the television channel "BSPN" but I have to give credit where credit is due. John Kruk and Curt Schilling are out, Aaron Boone and Jessica Mendoza are in and the experience is much more enjoyable these days. The experience will include the Yankees sending Masahiro Tanaka to the mound tonight in the finale to square off with David Price for the Red Sox. The game will be played at 8:15 pm ET and can be seen on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball.
Go Yankees!

Game Thread: New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox 5/8
The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox are set to finish off their three game set tonight inside Yankee Stadium with the Bronx Bombers looking to return a favor. That favor is a sweep as the Red Sox swept away the Yankees inside of Fenway Park last week while New York has won the first two games this weekend in the Bronx. If the Yankees want to sweep past Boston the offense will need to show up once again and they will have to get a good pitching performance from Luis Severino. Donned with the task of getting out of New York with a victory for the Boston Red Sox is Steven Wright. The game will be played at 8:05 pm ET and can be seen on ESPN as a part of ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball.
The Yankees welcome the defending World Series champion Kansas City Royals to town tomorrow and they welcome closer Aroldis Chapman to the team tomorrow night in the Bronx. To see these two major events live inside Yankee Stadium click the Yankees Tickets link at the top of the blog to visit Ticket Monster and to grab a pair of premium tickets for non-premium prices. Until then though you can always follow along on Twitter by giving @GreedyStripes a follow as we try and live tweet each and every Yankees game each and every season.
How sweep it is? How sweep it would be. Make it happen. Go Yankees!
Game Preview: New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox 5/8
The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox have had a great weekend of baseball with a pair of great pitching matchups that continues tonight in the Bronx. Friday night we had the David Ortiz hissy fit like a three-year old baby which made me chuckle and Saturday afternoon we had the obligatory start against David Price on whatever team he is pitching for these days. Tonight in the night cap and the finale we will all watch as Luis Severino takes the mound against the Red Sox knuckle-baller Steven Wright.
Severino has not had the start to his 2016 season that anyone could have expected or wanted but he has shown the Yankees signs of life in his last couple of starts. Severino is trending in the right direction but he still isn't there yet and this was on full display in his last start against the Orioles. Severino took the loos but seemingly had full control over the game until a pair of Mark Trumbo home runs and two errors buried him and the Yankees on the night.
Wright is off to a strong start this season much like many of the Red Sox starters this season but Wright has seen his knuckleball keep batters off balance this year. Wright has allowed two earned runs or fewer in all five of his starts this season and has gone six innings in each start while holding batters to a .188 batting average against.
The game will be played at 8:05 pm ET inside of Yankee Stadium and can be seen on ESPN as a part of their ESPN Sunday Night Baseball broadcast. This will mark the second straight Sunday night that we can watch these Yankees and Red Sox face off on Sunday night with their new color commentary crew. After one start, because admittedly I haven't watched much non-Yankees baseball thus far this season, I have to give ESPN credit where credit is due, Aaron Boone and Jessica Mendoza is much better than John Kruk and Curt Schilling.
Go Yankees!!

Game Thread: New York Yankees @ Boston Red Sox 5/1
On the first day of May the good Baseball God's gave to me, a win over the Red Sox for the New York Yankees? Yes I have resorted to parodying Christmas songs and praying to the Baseball God's for a victory tonight inside of Fenway Park. Desperate times call for desperate measure and this team has to be feeling the desperation right now, May or not. Tonight ESPN showcases the finale of the three game set between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox inside of Fenway Park as a part of ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball. The Yankees will send Nathan Eovaldi to the mound tonight for the finale while the Boston Red Sox will send their ace and their newest hired gun in David Price. The game will be played at 8:05 pm ET and can be seen on ESPN nationally and locally.
The Yankees are off tomorrow before heading out to Baltimore to face off with the Baltimore Orioles for a three game set inside Camden Yards so you definitely want to leave Fenway with a win tonight. Root for the home team and follow along tonight on Twitter by giving @GreedyStripes a follow. It won't be the same without Curt Schilling and John Kruk to troll but it still should be good fun, especially if we win. Go Yankees!
Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Boston Red Sox 5/1
There is nothing better than a New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox facing off head-to-head on a Sunday night on ESPN. Well it used to be a lot better when we could get on Twitter and contradict everything that John Kruk and Curt Schilling said but we will find a way to get by tonight when we watch Sunday Night Baseball. In the contest the Yankees will send Nathan Eovaldi to the mound looking to flirt with a no-hitter again while the Red Sox send the man to the mound they signed to beat everyone in his way, especially the Yankees, in David Price.
Eovaldi took a no-hitter bid into the seventh inning during his last start against the Texas Rangers only to give up a single in the top of the 7th inning. This was Eovaldi's first win of the season and the young righty will look for his second win tonight against the Red Sox. Eovaldi's strikeouts are up and his location and pitch selection is getting better with every start which is an encouraging sign for the New York Yankees.
Price had the luxury of facing off with the league's worst team in the Altanta Braves last time out where he struck out 14 batters in a victory for Boston. Price will look to improve his career 13-7 record against the Yankees tonight and his career 4.04 ERA in his first taste of the Yankees and Red Sox rivalry.
The game will be played at 8:05 pm ET and can be seen on ESPN as a part of the new Sunday Night Baseball broadcast. Like we said, no more John Kruk and no more Curt Schilling and in their place is a former Yankees player Aaron Boone and the multi-talented Jessica Mendoza. We need a victory, Go Yankees!

Game Thread: New York Yankees @ Detroit Tigers 4/10
EDIT: This game has been rained/snowed out. No official makeup date has been announced. Masahiro Tanaka will not start again until Tuesday.
This game has been in doubt all day because of snow and rain alongside some frigid temperatures but somehow mother nature has allowed this one to get underway so let's make the best out of a cold situation. Tonight the Yankees play for the first time on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball and they face off with the Detroit Tigers with Masahiro Tanaka taking the mound against Justin Verlander.
The game will be played at 8:35 pm ET inside of Comerica Park and can be seen on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball broadcast. Enjoy and go Yankees!

Game Thread: New York Yankees @ New York Mets 9/20
Thank goodness for MLB.TV's radio broadcasts so you can mute the ESPN crew and listen to John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman. If I was to listen to ESPN I could hear it now, John Kruk will work up the New York Mets and Matt Harvey as World Series winners instead of the contenders they are and he would hand Harvey the NL Cy Young Award now. It is high, it is far, it is... caught by the second baseman in short right field but it's still better than listening to the blatantly obvious bias given out by the ESPN crew. Anyway, tonight the Yankees and Mets finish off the Subway Series with CC Sabathia heading to the mound to face off against Matt Harvey and his innings limit. The game will be played at 8:05 pm ET and can be seen on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball.
The Yankees will play until nearly midnight tonight and then have to travel to Toronto before tomorrow night's contest with David Price and the Toronto Blue Jays, thank you MLB schedulers and thank you ESPN. Be sure to give @GreedyStripes a follow on Twitter to rant and rave about it while rooting for the Yankees all the way to the postseason.
Sabathia is ready to roll and so are the Yankees. Go Yankees!
While We Wait:By the numbers: A break is (almost) always good for A-Rod
While we wait on tonight's Sunday Night Baseball game on ESPN I wanted to take an opportunity to bring you a great article written by Chad Jennings over at Lohud. Jennings looks at Alex Rodriguez in this article to see whether the days off the Yankees have been giving him, like the three games in a National League park against the Mets and the off day on Thursday, affect his production at the plate or not. CLICK HERE to read the entire article at Lohud and see below for a sample blurb while we wait. Enjoy.
Last week, when he hit his fourth home run in five days, Alex Rodriguez talked about perspective.
As a younger player, he’d never liked days off. He played all 162 games three times in his 20s, but Rodriguez’s late 30s taught him the value of rest and recuperation. Durability is no longer be taken for granted, and strength in September is no longer a given.
Four home runs in five days? Rodriguez pointed to the week before when he’d more or less taken four days off in a National League park.
“I’ve felt much better,” Rodriguez said. “One of the good things about getting old is you have some perspective. I talked about that in Atlanta, and the days off for me have been good.”
In almost every case, taking at least two days off has paid immediate dividends for Rodriguez. An extended break has been helpful for the 40-year-old, and he should get one more break this weekend when the Yankees play at Citi Field. An off day Thursday followed by three games in a National League park should leave Rodriguez with an extended break leading into the final 14 games of the season.
And those final 14 games start with three against Toronto, so this would be a fine time to continue the pattern of being productive right after a few days off.
“I think one thing is, Joe (Girardi) deserves a lot of credit,” Rodriguez said. “He’s been very disciplined. He’s rested me. I took a day off after the three homers in Minnesota, and I think that has been good. Obviously I’ll have a break against the Mets. I’m in a position now where I can find the strength.”
Here’s every example of Rodriguez being kept out of the lineup at least two days in a row this season.
April 30-May 1Off day, at Red Sox
One pinch-hit appearance
Ten games before: .135/.319/.270
Ten games after: .286/.341/.657
This was A-Rod’s first extended break of the season. He was kept out of the lineup April 28, took an 0-for-6 April 29, April 30 was an off day, and he was back on the bench May 1. On that May 1 game, Rodriguez hit a pinch-hit home run in the eighth inning, which would be the start of another hot streak.
May 19-20at Nationals
Two pinch-hit appearances; one inning in the field
Ten games before: .297/.364/.730
Ten games after: .405/.452/.514
This was early in the season, at a time when it seemed the Yankees had to find a way to get Rodriguez into these National League games. He came back from the short break to have a hit in his next 11 games in a row, including five multi-hit games. Didn’t necessarily need the break, but the time off didn’t seem to hurt him.
June 15-16at Marlins
One pinch-hit appearance
Ten games before: .205/.367/.333
Ten games after: .400/.500/.686
Had eight hits in his previous 10 games, and half of those came in one game, so his slump was perhaps a little worse than the slash line suggests. He was cheered at home in Miami, got into only one of those two games, then returned to hit a home run in three of his next seven games.
Game Preview: New York Yankees @ New York Mets 9/20
The New York Yankees and the New York Mets will finish off their three game series and the Subway Series for the season tonight inside Citi Field. Both teams need a win but the pressure is especially on the Mets in my opinion with their ace on the mound in Queens tonight. The Yankees will send CC Sabathia to the mound tonight to face off against the Mets phenom Matt Harvey. The game will be played at 8:05 pm ET and can be seen on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball.
- Sabathia heads into this start fresh off his first start off the disabled list and possibly his best start of the season. Sabathia held the Tampa Bay Rays to just three hits in 6.2 scoreless innings of work on September 14. Sabathia has faced the Mets once this season and took the loss on April 25 after giving up seven runs in five innings.
- Harvey starting with all eyes in the nation on him on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball, this is the kind of start that Harvey was seemingly made for. No one knows how long he will be in this game with the innings limit concerns surrounding the right-hander and the Mets right now and that may be the Yankees best chance tonight in Queens.
The next four days are likely to make or break the Yankees season. Tonight's finale with the Mets is followed by the final three games with the Toronto Blue Jays head-to-head. Three or four losses in these four games could really make things interesting in the Wild Card race in the American League. Three or four wins in that same span can propel the Yankees right back into the conversation for the American League East Division race. Go Yankees!

DO NOT Pitch To Yoenis Cespedes
The New York Yankees and the New York Mets are a mere two hours away from kicking off a three game series inside Citi Field. These two teams will play all weekend long including tomorrow afternoon and Sunday night on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball (because who doesn't love playing until midnight before having to travel this late in the season, right?). These two teams faced off three times already this season and the Yankees won two of those three games inside Yankee Stadium. These Yankees were a different team then with Nathan Eovaldi and Mark Teixeira and the Mets are a different team, and a much better team this time around, with Tyler Clippard and the man of the hour in New York right now, Yoenis Cespedes.
Cespedes has not faced the Yankees as a member of the Mets this season but he faced off against New York plenty of time as a member of the Detroit Tigers. These stats mean very little in the grand scheme of things because Cespedes has been playing with a new fire lit under him of late but here they are nonetheless, Cespedes against current Yankees pitching in his career.
*courtesy of ESPN.com
DO NOT pitch to Yoenis Cespedes all weekend long. That is all.

Weekend Finale Open Thread
Monday's suck but I think I may despise Sunday night's more and more these days. First and foremost I am dreading the Monday morning which keeps me from wanting to do ANYTHING on Sunday night and secondly the Yankees game is usually long over by now. I miss the Sunday Night ESPN games and broadcasts for whatever reason. The Yankees were very successful in them, it was fun to bash John Kruk and Curt Schilling on Twitter, the banter and mentions on our Twitter (@GreedyStripes) went crazy and it was just fun. Oh well, it's just as fun winning on a Sunday afternoon I guess. Anyway this is it for the night, an open thread for you guys.
I leave you tonight with this song from my own personal collection and it's a little something different then what I normally post. The name of the song is "Your Love" by The Outfield. Enjoy.

Game Thread: New York Yankees vs. Texas Rangers 5-24
Wow that ceremony for Bernie Williams was awesome and so long overdue. No one does it like the Yankees, nobody. The #51 is officially retired and the plaque is made for Monument Park so now it's time to win the game in true Bernie fashion, by any means necessary. Tonight the Yankees play host to the Rangers inside Yankee Stadium for the final time in this three game series with Chris Capuano and Yovani Gallardo on the mound for their respected teams. The game will be played at 8:05 pm ET and can be seen on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball.
The Yankees stay home tomorrow to play host to the Kansas City Royals on Memorial Day so thank a veteran and spend the day at the ballpark. Get your Yankees tickets off the blog by kicking the Yankees Tickets link at the top of the blog to grab a pair for any game of the Royals and Yankees series. If you can't make it or you're at home grilling out and enjoying the paid day off then join me on Twitter (@GreedyStripes) and/or on the comments section of the site to interact during the game.
Capuano is ready, Delino DeShields is ready, let's play ball. Go Yankees!
Game Preview: New York Yankees vs. Texas Rangers 5/24
For the final time in this three game set the New York Yankees will play host to the Texas Rangers inside Yankee Stadium this weekend. These two teams ditched all pitching in the first game of the series and bashed each other's brains in for the first game of the series before pitching returned a bit in the second game. Who will win the third game and how? You'll just have to check out the contest on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball when Chris Capuano takes the mound to face off with Yovani Gallardo for the Rangers. The game will be played at 8:05 pm ET and can be seen on ESPN.
- Capuano is making just his second start of the season after starting the 2015 season on the disabled list with a strained quad muscle. Capuano would like to forget his first start where he completed just three plus innings giving up four runs and four hits to the Kansas City Royals in a loss.
- Gallardo has not pitched well this season for Texas and has posted a 1-5 record with a 4.63 ERA in his last six starts. Gallardo has given up four runs in five innings in that period including a loss to the Boston Red Sox in his last start. Gallardo is only making his second career start against the New York Yankees.
The Yankees stay home to play host to the Kansas City Royals at home in Yankee Stadium tomorrow for Memorial Day. It's always to end a series with a victory and it's always good to win, period, let's be honest so let's get a win tonight to make John Kruk, Curt Schilling and company #ShutTheKrukUp. Go Yankees!!

Game Preview: New York Yankees vs. Texas Rangers 5/23
The New York Yankees and the Texas Rangers are back at it
again in the Bronx this afternoon after playing a night game last night. With
the day game after the night game you can expect manager Joe Girardi to give a
couple of his regulars a day off or at least a half a day with the DH position
so we may see Garrett Jones and too much of Stephen Drew this afternoon. On the
mound for the Yankees will be CC Sabathia who will look to start a winning
streak against the Rangers Nick Martinez. The game will be played at 1:05 pm ET
and can be seen on MLB Network, WPIX Channel 11 and MLB TV.
- Sabathia is looking for his third straight win on the season this afternoon after winning each of his last two decisions. CC has allowed five runs on 12 hits in 14 IP in those victories walking just two batters and striking out 14 leaving many to believe that CC has finally figured out how to pitch and not just throw. CC owns a career 11-3 record with a 4.45 ERA against the Texas Rangers in his career but has not faced the team from Arlington since the 2012 season.
- Martinez has enjoyed a strong May thus far posting a 1-0 record with a 3.68 ERA in four starts and has also enjoyed a strong road record this season posting a 1-0 record with a 1.52 ERA on the road, both of which are bad signs for the Yankees this afternoon. Martinez faced New York twice in 2014 and posted a 0-1 record with a 4.91 ERA against the Bronx Bombers which is a great sign for New York. Which Martinez will show up this afternoon in the Bronx? Stay tuned.
New York almost has a full day off after this contest as the
team does not play again until 8:00 pm ET tomorrow as a part of ESPN’s Sunday
Night Baseball. Frankly I cannot wait to sit on my couch and blow through 85%
of my cell phone battery tweeting John Kruk to #ShutTheKrukUp I don’t know
about you. Go Yankees!

Game Preview: Texas Rangers @ New York Yankees 5/22
The New York Yankees are coming back down to Earth it seems
and will either look to turn things around against the Texas Rangers this
weekend or continue their slide in the American League East. The Yankees
struggled in three consecutive series against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Kansas
City Royals and the Washington Nationals and will send Michael Pineda to the
mound looking to be the stopper and the ace for New York. Opposing Big Mike for
the Rangers is Colby Lewis. The game will be played at 7:05 pm ET and can be
seen on the YES Network, MLB Network and MLB TV.
- Pineda is coming off possibly his worst start of the season last time out against the Kansas City Royals where the big RHP took his first loss of the season. Pineda only struck out one batter in the contest just one start after striking out 16 Baltimore Orioles on Mother’s Day. Pineda is 0-2 with a 4.74 ERA in his career against the Texas Rangers in three starts.
- Lewis has been solid in his last month or so of starts going 2-1 with a 2.65 ERA in his last five starts. Lewis has posted a 2-2 record with a 2.55 ERA in four road starts this season showing many that the friendly confines of Yankee Stadium will not affect Lewis in this start. Lewis went 1-1 against the team last season posting a 3.38 ERA and also owns a pair of victories against them in his career in the 2010 ALCS.
The Yankees and Rangers play an afternoon game tomorrow
before being showcased on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball Sunday where the team
will honor Bernie Williams before the contest. The Yankees have a huge habit of
losing these big time games where they honor their stars so let’s hope the team
can turn that around this weekend in the Bronx. Go Yankees!

Game Thread: New York Yankees @ Boston Red Sox 5/3
For the third time already this season the New York Yankees will be showcased on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball and for the second time already this season the Boston Red Sox will be joining them. Rivalry Renewed! Tonight the Yankees will send Adam Warren to the mound to face off against Joe Kelly for the Red Sox in the 8:05 pm ET game that will be on ESPN as a part of ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball. In case you were wondering the last time these two teams met on Sunday Night Baseball John Kruk was quieted and Curt Schilling became a Yankees supporter in a victory for New York, how about a second one tonight?
The Yankees play the Toronto Blue Jays tomorrow night inside the Rogers Centre so hopefully the team can play a Rob Manfred Special tonight and get out of Boston before the clock turns to midnight. Get your Yankees tickets for that series or for the next series at Yankee Stadium against the Baltimore Orioles right here on the blog using our Yankees Tickets link at the top of the blog. If you can't make it live then jump on Twitter (@GreedyStripes) and/or the comments section to finish off a great sports weekend with us and the Yankees. Go Yankees!
Jacoby Ellsbury is ready, Joe Kelly is ready, the Yankees are ready, are you ready?
Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Boston Red Sox 5/3
The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox have played two games already this series and these games have certainly lived up to the hype that is the Yankees and Red Sox rivalry. On Friday night we all watched a pitchers duel between CC Sabathia and Justin Masterson which was aided by strong defense on both sides and on Saturday afternoon we watched both Nathan Eovaldi and Wade Miley come out of the gates pitching well. We all saw as Alex Rodriguez tied Willie Mays with his 660th home run of his career and with the first two games being played well by both teams I expect nothing less than another instant classic tonight inside Fenway Park. Tonight the Yankees will send Adam Warren to the mound to face off against the Red Sox right hander Joe Kelly. The game will be played at 8:05 pm ET and can be seen on ESPN as a part of ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball.
- Warren has only been a starting pitcher full time for about a month in the major leagues but has still yet to complete six innings in his career. Warren has made spot starts in his career for New York after being a starting pitcher in the minor leagues and came close to finishing out six innings in his last start against the Tampa Bay Rays. Last time out Warren allowed one run on five hits with six K's in 5.2 innings. Whether Warren gets six innings tonight or not is less important than if he can keep his team close enough to come from behind and win it with the bullpen like they have so many times already this season.
- Kelly has dominated the Yankees already once this season on a Saturday afternoon game in the Bronx and is fresh off a 10 strikeout performance against the Toronto Blue Jays in his last start. Kelly lasted just six innings and did allow five runs in the contest pushing his average K's per nine innings to 10.65 on the season, the highest mark of his young career.
Will the Yankees see the Kelly that dominated them on a Saturday afternoon or will they see the Kelly that allows a lot of hits, runs and home runs in his career? Will Warren hold a strong Red Sox offense down like he did last time out against the Rays or will he allow a ton of runs like he did in his last start against the Detroit Tigers? Only one way to find out Yankees family, tune in tonight on ESPN. You bring the popcorn and I'll bring the headphones, go Yankees!
