So it Seems the Weekend is Back!

Good morning everyone and Happy Friday! It is finally the weekend, we made it. The New York Yankees continue their four-game set in the Bronx this weekend with the Houston Astros while also welcoming Derek Jeter back to the Bronx for Derek Jeter Day on Sunday. It’s also Mother’s Day on Sunday so be sure to wish that special someone in your life a Happy Mother’s Day on Sunday. Do something nice if you can because if it weren’t for you mother you wouldn’t be reading this today. Remember all those “I brought you into this world and I can take you out of it” threats? Maybe those were just for me, LOL.

I hope everyone has a great weekend and if we don’t speak between now and then I hope everyone has a great Mother’s Day. Thank you to all the mothers out there, the Aunts or grandmothers picking up and being mothers and a huge thank you to all the single dads out there that are having to be both on this day. You are truly appreciated.

Love you guys, especially you. Hey you.

The Yankees & 2017 Special Event Uniforms

Every season Major League Baseball unveils six special event uniforms for the new season and while some love them, like myself, others hate them for whatever reason. I love them because over the past 100 years or so the Yankees have had the same old boring uniforms so it’s nice to see the sport and the team change things up a bit. Who doesn’t enjoy the pink bats and such on Mother’s Day and now the pastel blue for Father’s Day? Anyway here is a sneak peek at the six special uniforms for the 2017 season. Enjoy, or don’t… you traditionalist you.

Game Preview: Texas Rangers @ New York Yankees 5/22

The New York Yankees are coming back down to Earth it seems and will either look to turn things around against the Texas Rangers this weekend or continue their slide in the American League East. The Yankees struggled in three consecutive series against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Kansas City Royals and the Washington Nationals and will send Michael Pineda to the mound looking to be the stopper and the ace for New York. Opposing Big Mike for the Rangers is Colby Lewis. The game will be played at 7:05 pm ET and can be seen on the YES Network, MLB Network and MLB TV.

  • Pineda is coming off possibly his worst start of the season last time out against the Kansas City Royals where the big RHP took his first loss of the season. Pineda only struck out one batter in the contest just one start after striking out 16 Baltimore Orioles on Mother’s Day. Pineda is 0-2 with a 4.74 ERA in his career against the Texas Rangers in three starts.

  • Lewis has been solid in his last month or so of starts going 2-1 with a 2.65 ERA in his last five starts. Lewis has posted a 2-2 record with a 2.55 ERA in four road starts this season showing many that the friendly confines of Yankee Stadium will not affect Lewis in this start. Lewis went 1-1 against the team last season posting a 3.38 ERA and also owns a pair of victories against them in his career in the 2010 ALCS.

The Yankees and Rangers play an afternoon game tomorrow before being showcased on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball Sunday where the team will honor Bernie Williams before the contest. The Yankees have a huge habit of losing these big time games where they honor their stars so let’s hope the team can turn that around this weekend in the Bronx. Go Yankees!

Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Kansas City Royals 5/15

The New York Yankees are finally leaving the Eastern Time zone, and I hate that by the way because I have to stay up later now, and are traveling to Kauffman Stadium tonight to take on the first place Kansas City Royals. Kansas City is on a dogfight with the Detroit Tigers for first place while the Yankees are hoping to hold off the suddenly charging Tampa Bay Rays in the Eastern Division of the American League. Tonight on the mound for the Yankees is Michael Pineda as he faces off with the great comeback story that is Chris Young. The game will be played at 8:05 pm ET and can be seen on WPIX Channel 11 and MLB TV.

  • Pineda is pitching for the first time since striking out 16 Baltimore Orioles in a victory on Mother’s Day. Pineda did not walk a batter in the contest as he tied Yankees legends David Cone and David Wells for the second most strikeouts in a game in Yankees history behind just Ron Guidry and his 18 K performance. Pineda likely won’t strike out 16 tonight but if he can give the Yankees length again and another victory I don’t believe anyone would complain too loud.

  • Young is coming off a start against the Detroit Tigers in which he didn’t allow an earned runs in six innings in a victory for the Royals. Young’s only two victories have come at home inside Kauffman Stadium as the RHP has allowed just seven hits in 23 IP this season for the Royals. He’s definitely going to be a tough matchup for the Bronx Bombers tonight.

This is going to be a hard fought series on both sides and frankly I am a little worried with how New York played a couple games in Tampa. I know there are up’s and down’s over the course of a 162 game schedule and that is probably the reason why we have never seen a team go anywhere close to 162-0 but you still like your team to have the momentum and be on a hot streak when traveling on the road to face off against a good team. The team has already slayed two early season giants in the New York Mets and the Detroit Tigers so hopefully they can replicate that success this weekend in Kansas City. Go Yankees!

Game Thread: Baltimore Orioles @ New York Yankees 5/10

For the final time this weekend the New York Yankees play host to Buck Showalter’s Fighting Baltimore Orioles at home inside Yankee Stadium. This afternoon we will watch as Big Mike Michael Pineda looks for his seventh straight decision victory while Bud Norris looks to bounce back from a bad start against the New York Mets. The game will be played at 1:05 pm ET and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV.

It’s Mother’s Day so I would be shocked if many are reading this right now but to the few that are, thank you. Enjoy the game Yankees family. No Yankees ticket pushing, no “follow @GreedyStripes on Twitter” and no asking to comment in the comments section, just a go Yankees from me today!

Big Mike, Mr. Pineda, do work son. Happy Mother’s Day.

Happy Mother’s Day

Sunday, May 10th. Many of you know it as Mother’s Day 2015. Happy Mother’s Day goes out to all the mothers, wives and women in the world today, this day and this post is for you. Whether you have children of your own, you’re stepping up to raise someone else’s children, you have a dog or you just have people you consider to be your sons or daughters this day is for you. Also let’s not forget the single fathers out there who have to be both every single day, my hat is tipped for all of you.

Happy Mother’s Day! Give your mom a call, a card, whatever as I am sure she will at least appreciate the gesture. Have a great day Yankees family, I’m going to California Dreaming with the wife this afternoon and may be a bit quiet on Twitter and the blog.

Have a great day!

Game Preview: Baltimore Orioles @ New York Yankees 5/10

The New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles complete their four game series this afternoon in the Bronx in a Mother’s Day showdown at Yankee Stadium. This has been a closely contested series and I expect nothing less from each team this afternoon in the getaway game. This afternoon the Yankees will send Michael Pineda to the mound looking to finish off the series on a high note against the Orioles starter Bud Norris. The game will be played at 1:05 pm ET and can be seen on the YES Network and on MLB TV.

  • Pineda pitched easily his best game of the 2015 season last time out when the big right hander went eight innings against the Toronto Blue Jays. Pineda did not allow a run and has now won his last six decisions dating back to the 2014 season.

  • Norris pitched maybe his worst start of the 2015 season last time out when his Orioles faced off against the New York Mets. Norris allowed three runs in the fourth inning but was able to go seven innings in a season high. The Orioles lost to the Mets in the contest though as New York completed the sweep over Baltimore.

After this game this afternoon the Yankees head back out onto the road to face off with the Tampa Bay Rays, Kansas City Royals and Washington Nationals before returning home next weekend for a series with the Texas Rangers and Bernie Williams Day. The Yankees keep winning and keep staying in first place making this a fun season to be a part of thus far. Let’s keep the good times rolling this afternoon in the Bronx. Go Yankees!

TGP Daily Poll: Pink & Mustaches Clash

If you’re voting on Knoda vote yes because the prediction is that pink (that players wear on Mother’s Day every year) will clash with the mustaches that the Yankees have going on this season. #FearTheStache #UnlessHeIsWearingPink.

Saturday Night Open Thread

Hey guys look, I remembered the open thread for the week two weeks in a row, something must be wrong in the universe right now. Anyway it’s Saturday night and the Yankees game has already come to a close so let’s chat it up about anything you guys want to. Mother’s Day is tomorrow, what are you getting your mom, wife or significant other? NBA playoffs are going on with some Game Three matchups, who you got?

I took my boys fishing today and ran all my errands and did my grocery shopping so I could devote tomorrow to the wife so I’m beat but the kids thoroughly enjoyed it. Making memories is all that matters, remember that. With that said I’ll leave the stage to you, have at it and enjoy.
