Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Kansas City Royals 5/19

Good morning everyone and welcome to the official beginning of the weekend. No work for many today whatsoever, but the boys in their road gray uniforms will be back at it again with the second of a three-game weekend set with the Royals. In tonight’s battle of the aces the New York Yankees will send Luis Severino to the mound to face off with a potential trade candidate for the Bombers in July, Kansas City’s left-handed starter Danny Duffy. Let’s get to it here in Kansas City.

Severino has not been beaten in six straight starts and will look to make it seven tonight in Kansas City. In his last start the Yankees right-hander allowed just one run on five hits in six innings of work in a victory. Since April 16, Severino is 4-0 with a 1.54 ERA covering six starts while holding opponent’s batting average to just .171.

Duffy on the other hand was not so sharp in his last start against the Cleveland Indians where he allowed nine runs on eight hits in just 3.1 innings pitched. The Royals lost 11-2 in the contest with Duffy taking the loss.

The game will be played at 7:15 pm ET inside Kauffman Stadium and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB Network. You can also follow along with the game on MLB TV, with the MLB At-Bat app and by tuning into the Yankees radio broadcast on WFAN with the legendary duo of John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman.

Enjoy the game, watch Duffy audition for a rescue ticket out of Kauffman Stadium, and go Yankees!!

And just like that it is game time here in Kansas City, for real this time, between the New York Yankees and the Kansas City Royals. In the first game of the three-game weekend set the Yankees will send CC Sabathia to the mound to square off with Jakob Junis for the Royals. The game will be played at 8:15 pm ET inside Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City and can be seen on WPIX Channel 11. You can also follow along with the game on MLB TV, with the MLB At-Bat app or by tuning into the Yankees radio broadcast on WFAN with the legendary duo of John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman.

Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Kansas City Royals 5/18

Good morning everyone and, weather permitting, welcome back to New York Yankees baseball. The Yankees are fresh off their four-game mini vacation this week and have made the trip to Kansas City and Kauffman Stadium to begin a series with the Kansas City Royals. In the opener the Yankees will send CC Sabathia to the mound to face off with Jakob Junis (who?) for the Royals. I am just grateful that the boys in pinstripes are back, no matter who they are playing, so let’s get to it here in Kansas City.

Sabathia will start tonight rather than take his scheduled turn on Wednesday in Washington after the game was rained out. Sabathia has posted a 2-0 record with a 1.65 ERA in five starts since coming off the disabled list in mid-April with the Yankees winning four of the five starts. #Stopper

Junis was not sharp in his last start against the Cleveland Indians where the Royals starter gave up six hits and four earned runs in 5.2 innings worth of work. This will be the first time Junis has seen the Yankees and vice versa.

Enjoy the game, no seriously… who is Jakob Junis? and go Yankees!

Hello… Baseball?

Baseball… is that you?

Good morning everyone and welcome back to Yankees baseball, finally. If it feels like the Yankees haven’t played in about a week there is probably a pretty good reason for it, because they haven’t. The Yankees last played a full game on Sunday, Mother’s Day, with two rain outs/suspensions and two off days thrown in between. June will not be fun for the Yankees, but the team will just have to cross that 17 games in 15 days bridge when they get there. It is a young team, they should be fine.

Anyway, Happy Friday to us all. We made it! And an extra special Happy Friday to you my love. No special reason, just because I love you and because you are extra special to me.

Game Thread: New York Yankees @ Kansas City Royals 5/18

It’s been a busy day here on the blog and we have been all over the place. Yankees international free agent signings, Yankees plucking pitchers out of the Frontier League, game previews, so it seems and now a game thread between the New York Yankees and the Kansas City Royals. In the contest the Yankees will send rookie left-hander Jordan Montgomery to the mound to square off with fellow lefty Danny Duffy for the Royals. The game will be played at 8:15 pm ET inside Kauffman Stadium and can be seen on FOX Sports One and MLB TV. You can also follow along in your cars and on the radio by tuning into the WFAN broadcast.

Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Kansas City Royals 5/18

For the final time this series the New York Yankees will make the trip back to Kansas City to take on the Kansas City Royals. In this third game of their three-game set the Yankees will send Jordan Montgomery to the mound to square off with a tough left-hander in Danny Duffy for the Royals. Both teams need a win so let’s get a win, shall we Yankees?

Montgomery has never faced the Royals in his short rookie campaign in 2017 and heads into his first start against Kansas City fresh off a tough loss to the Houston Astros. Montgomery limited his walks in the start walking just one batter while striking out seven but it wasn’t enough to hold down the high flying Astros offense. Don’t feel bad though Jordan because nobody is slowing down that offense right now, it’s not just you.

Duffy faced the Baltimore Orioles in his last start and pitched well allowing eight hits and two runs with six strikeouts in seven innings of work. Duffy has always been a strong pitcher and a thorn in the Yankees side although the amount of right-handed power hitters that New York has as opposed to previous seasons is like night and day. Hopefully New York can get to him early and often tonight in Kansas City.

The game will be played at 8:15 pm ET inside Kauffman Stadium and can be seen on Fox Sports One and MLB TV. You can also follow along in your cars and on the radio by tuning into the WFAN broadcast with John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman.

Mr. and Mrs. Baseball. Enjoy the game and Go Yankees!

And just like that it is game time once again inside Kauffman Stadium as the New York Yankees travel to face off against the Kansas City Royals in the second of a three-game set. The Yankees will send Michael Pineda to the mound to square off against Jason Vargas for the Royals. The game will be played at 8:10 pm ET inside Kauffman Stadium and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV. You can also follow along on the radio and in your cars with WFAN.

Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Kansas City Royals 5/17

The New York Yankees and the Kansas City Royals are back at it again tonight with the second game of their three-game set this week. Both teams need victories desperately right now, although the Royals situation seems to be a bit direr than the Yankees position admittedly, as the thermometer rises and these games start getting more and more intense. Or as my son would say despite me correcting him a million and one times, “intenser.” The Yankees will send Michael Pineda to the mound tonight looking to grab another victory for New York while the Royals will counter with Jason Vargas.

Pineda has been easily the Yankees best pitcher this season which comes just at the right time. With Pineda set to hit the free agency market after this season he has to put to bed the thought process that he has all the stuff to make him an ace but has yet to put it all together. He can take another step towards that tonight inside Kauffman Stadium.

Vargas pitched well in his last start against the Tampa Bay Rays and will look to continue pitching well tonight against the Yankees. In his last start Vargas hurled seven shutout innings while giving up just three hits and striking out four in a Kansas City victory.

The game will be played at 8:15 pm ET inside Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV.  You can also follow along in your cars and on the radio by tuning into John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman’s broadcast on WFAN. Enjoy the game everybody and as always, Go Yankees!

In the first of the three-game set in the central time zone the Yankees will send CC Sabathia to the mound to square off with Jason Hammel for the Royals. The game will be played at 8:15 pm ET inside Kauffman Stadium and can be seen on the YES Network, MLB Network and MLB TV. Game Thread: New York Yankees @ Kansas City Royals 8/31

Here we go again ladies and gentleman as the New York Yankees once again make the trip to Kauffman Stadium to take on the Kansas City Royals in the finale of their three game set. We have had some explosive offensive and some awesome pitching matchups in this series and we should be treated to another tonight as the Yankees send one of their rookie arms in Luis Cessa to the mound to face off with an arm they drafted and brought to the Major Leagues in Ian Kennedy. The game will be played at 8:15 pm ET inside Kauffman Stadium and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV.

Follow along during this game and every game left this season by liking our page on Facebook and by giving us a follow on Twitter @GreedyStripes. The Yankees head to Baltimore after this game to take on the Baltimore Orioles, a team they are chasing in both the AL East division race and the 2nd Wild Card race, so be sure to check those games out as well this week and into the weekend.

Cessa vs. Kennedy. Let’s get to it. Go Yankees!

Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Kansas City Royals 8/31

One last time here inside Kauffman Stadium, let’s go. Today the New York Yankees and the Kansas City Royals finish off their three-game set in what should be another great pitching matchup and another great contest. On the pitching side of things the Yankees are set to send their rookie starter Luis Cessa to the mound as he looks to continue to impress as a starter in the Bronx this season while the Royals will counter with Ian Kennedy. Should be interesting, let’s get to it.

Cessa has made two starts in the Major Leagues in his career and has won both of them after shutting down the Baltimore Orioles and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Cessa did give up a pair of Manny Machado home runs in his last start but for the most part he kept the ball on the ground and had an easy six innings of work en route to a victory.

Kennedy continued to struggle with the long ball in his last start giving up two runs in 5.1 innings of work. Kennedy had five straight quality starts before that last start and a 1.14 ERA in his last six starts though so this may be a tough one for his former club tonight.

The game will be played at 8:15 pm ET inside beautiful Kauffman Stadium and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV. Every time the Yankees look dead in the water this season they bounce right back stronger than ever and I expect nothing less from the boys today. Get it done and get out of town with a victory and let’s keep this thing moving right along. Go Yankees!

Game Thread: New York Yankees @ Kansas City Royals 8/30

Here we go ladies and gentleman as the New York Yankees once again make the trip to Kansas City and Kauffman Stadium for the middle game of their three game set. In the contest the Yankees and Royals will send their respective aces to the mound both looking for not only a victory but for a leg up on the other in the AL Wild Card chase as well. The Yankees will send Masahiro Tanaka to the mound looking to help the club leapfrog one of the many teams in front of them while the Royals counter with Edinson Volquez who is donned with the task of keeping the defending World Series Champions in the playoff hunt and discussion this season. The game will be played at 8:15 pm ET inside Kauffman Stadium and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV.

Thanks in advance.

Happy Tanaka Day ladies and gentleman. Go Yankees!

Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Kansas City Royals 8/30

The New York Yankees and the Kansas City Royals continue their three-game set tonight inside Kauffman Stadium with the middle game of the series. We all watched Big Mike Michael Pineda and Dillon Gee go at it last night with the waterfall in the background in Kansas City and tonight we watch as the Yankees send their ace and stopper Masahiro Tanaka to the mound to face off with the Royals starter and ace Edinson Volquez. This one should be fun as well as both teams are pitching and hitting extremely well. Hopefully the Yankees play Kansas City tough tonight, that’s all you can ask for.

Tanaka has been everything he has ever been advertised as and more lately for the Yankees as he comes into tonight’s start on a great four start stretch. Tanaka has thrown two consecutive scoreless outings, a combined 14.2 innings, and has been dominant in his other two starts as well. Tanaka looks to keep the good times rolling tonight inside Kauffman Stadium.

Volquez was sharp in his last start as well against the Miami Marlins where the Royals ace gave up just three hits and two runs, although neither of the runs were earned. Volquez had struggled since mid-June before that start and could be finally turning the corner at the right time for Kansas City.

The game will be played at 8:15 pm ET inside Kauffman Stadium and can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV. In the battle of the aces who will come out on top? Will it be the red hot Royals behind Edinson Volquez or will be it the Yankees with their Japanese import on the mound? Stay tuned and find out. Go Yankees!

The USA Today Ranks All 30 MLB Stadiums

The USA Today’s Ted Berg did something I wish I could do this week, he ranked all 30 Major League Baseball stadiums in the league. Now sure, I could rank them all day long but he has actually visited all 30 and that is the key component to my jealousy and to what makes this list unique and great. Make sure to visit the link to check out his write up’s on all 30 MLB stadiums and see where he ranks them but for the purposes of this post I will sample the Top 10 stadiums and the write up for good ole’ Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. Enjoy.

1.       Petco Park – San Diego Padres
2.       AT&T Park – San Francisco Giants
3.       PNC Park – Pittsburgh Pirates
4.       Wrigley Field – Chicago Cubs
5.       Dodger Stadium – Los Angeles Dodgers
6.       Kauffman Stadium – Kansas City Royals
7.       Coors Field – Colorado Rockies
8.       Fenway Park – Boston Red Sox
9.       Target Field – Minnesota Twins
10.   Citi Field – New York Mets

25. Yankee Stadium – New York Yankees:

Credit the Yankees for eschewing the typical new-old look popular when their stadium opened in 2009, but not for producing a ballpark that looks more like a Las Vegas casino version of a stately building than the actual stately building they intended. The giant videoboard is great and the sight of the 4-train rumbling past is very cool, but the Yankees play within a couple of miles of some of the best Italian food on this great planet and somehow dare to unironically serve Papa John’s Pizza at their ballpark. You have to admire the chutzpah, really. — Ted Berg

World Series Game One Open Thread

The New York Mets have had five days off and have made the trip to Missouri to face off with the Kansas City Royals in the 2015 World Series. After the American League won the 2015 All-Star Game this season the AL earned home-field advantage in the series meaning four of the potential seven games in this series will be played inside KC's Kauffman Stadium. The first game of those potential seven games comes in just about an hour on FOX.

Here's your thread for the night, World Series Game One thread. Enjoy and Go Royals.. I guess.

Jose Bautista Needs to Calm Down

Jose Bautista has been seen during the ALCS pre-game workouts and such wearing a “Toronto vs. Everybody” t-shirt as the Toronto Blue Jays outfielder continues to play the victim. The victim that was seen in right field doing WWE star John Cena’s signature “you can’t see me” after throwing out two members of the New York Yankees. The victim that flipped the bat during Game 5 of the ALDS almost as far as the eventual game winning home run he hit. It’s not Toronto vs. Everybody it’s YOU vs. Everybody and you need to calm down.

I understand that this is the first time the Blue Jays outfielder has been to the postseason in his 12-year career and I understand that emotions and pressure are running amuck right now. Calm down, you have gone from keeping the Toronto Blue Jays relevant in a way only Carlos Delgado could in the past 22-seasons without a postseason berth to being the players that all the fans love to hate. You’re better than that Joey Bats.

It’s not a team-based thing, I actually respect the Toronto Blue Jays as a team and as an organization, and it’s 100% not an ethnic thing, although I’ve seen the ethnic card being tossed around of late, it’s a respect thing. You disrespect yourself, the game and the opposing team’s players and fans when you act like this, flipping bats, making gestures etc. You’re a role model, is this how you want your kids to act on the High School ball field when they don’t have the MLB Players Association, the league, droves of security and teammates and fans to back them up?

You’re 35-years old now and you’re finally in the postseason, congratulations. No one on that field probably deserves it more than you. I know I can’t say act like you’ve been here before, because you can’t because you haven’t, but act like the face of the franchise that many believe you to be and not some young, arrogant up-and-coming kid that that everyone is going to love to hate. Represent the game and represent your homeland and people, don’t give them a black eye before they even make their way over to the states to pursue THEIR dream.

Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Kansas City Royals 5/17

There is no better way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon then sitting on the couch and watching your favorite team win a game. That brings me to this afternoon's game between the New York Yankees and the Kansas City Royals inside Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. The Yankees got spanked on Friday night as the bullpen imploded forcing the team to look for some length tonight from their starter Chris Capuano who is making his 2015 season debut. Opposing Capuano for the Royals will be Edinson Volquez for the Royals in a game that will be played at 2:10 pm ET and in a game that can be seen on the YES Network and MLB TV.

  • Capuano will be making his season debut this afternoon and his first ever start against the Kansas City Royals after being activated off the disabled list. Capuano suffered a strained right quad muscle in spring training that has kept him off the field since April. Capuano will be taking the roster spot and the rotation spot of the now injured Chase Whitley.

  • Volquez is coming off a start in which he pitched to a no-decision against the Texas Rangers allowing four runs in five innings pitched. Volquez has been dealing a blister problem on his right thumb, his throwing thumb, but it improving which is a bad sign for the Yankees.

The Yankees have an off day tomorrow followed by a quick two game Interleague matchup with the Washington Nationals before another off day on Thursday so it may be all hands on deck this afternoon in Kansas City. Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller have been used sparingly since New York started losing so expect them for multiple innings each if the Yankees get a lead this afternoon. Not if they do, scratch that, when they do. Long live optimism and go Yankees!
