The Greedy Pinstripes & a FANCHEST Promo

Back in May we here at TGP received a FANCHEST which we promptly did a review about on the site. Well good news Yankees fans and with the holiday season fast approaching this comes not a moment too soon. Fanchest is back and they want to give The Greedy Pinstripes readers and subscribers a chance to try fanchest with a discount. Put in discount code “greedypinstripes” for $10 off your first purchase.

And for all those who missed it here is my review once again from back in May. Check it out.

In a world where anything can be ordered or found online it's getting harder and harder to be original. We saw some originality with the OneUPBox and the HorrorBox and all the equivalents but as far as I knew there wasn't a "box" for the sports fan. Until now. Fanchest is like those other "boxes" but they cater to the New York Yankees, New York Rangers or New York Mets fans. For us by us kind of thing.

Now if you click the Yankees section on Fanchest.com you can find that they have different tiers of boxes that naturally change every single month. The fanchest that I purchased was the "MVP" tier which will cost you $79.99.

What I received was a pair of Majestic Yankees T-shirts and not the cheap ones either, these are the authentic shirts that the Yankees are wearing on the field and in the dugouts. I also received a pair of Yankee Stadium seating chart themed coasters for my living room and one of those silicone bands to wear on my wrist. The box also contained a Yankees jersey bottle coozie, a one-size fits all Yankees hat and one of the awesome Yankees wigs pictured above.

You can get smaller tiered boxes ranging in price from $49 and $59 and you can also get Mark Teixeira and Paul O'Neill themed boxes that contain signed baseballs with authenticity paperwork for $199.99 and $174.99 respectively.

So head over to Fanchest.com, pick your team, pick your box and blow your loved ones away for Fathers Day, Christmas or just because. I highly recommend this box and I already have my eye on another for next month. We hope this review helps!

Potential Destinations For New Expansion Teams

There isn't any talk of expanding Major League Baseball to 32 teams anytime soon but we here at The Greedy Pinstripes like to be ahead of the curve. I was bored the other day and got to thinking about potential city landing spots for any hypothetical expansion teams. I believe I came up with a few interesting spots that could support a Major League Baseball franchise.

Major League Baseball seems destined to have a team in Mexico before it is all said and done with the emergence of the Mexican League and the influx of players from Mexico over the past few years. While Mexico City has the population to support a franchise it is nearly 1,000 miles away from it's closest MLB franchise in the United States. Enter Monterrey, Mexico which is right across the border of the United States and Mexico and could easily be protected and support a franchise in my opinion.

There are also rumors circulating that MLB may be headed back to Canada and Montreal specifically. Putting a franchise back in Montreal could work if it's done right and that plan would have to include a new stadium deal. The Montreal and Toronto rivalry would automatically be born, especially if an AL East team like the Rays were to relocate there, and the league would extend its global reach. If Montreal could not build a new stadium for the team then Vancouver could be a viable second option for MLB.

If the league wants to keep their teams domestic then cities who have popular and successful NBA, NHL, or NBA franchises come to mind in Indianapolis, Charlotte, New Orleans, and Portland. Portland would give the Seattle Mariners a travel break every once in a while and a true rival in the West. Charlotte and New Orleans have booming economies and no legitimate MLB franchises close by to have a true fandom for. Indianapolis supports the Indiana Pacers and the Indianapolis Colts pretty well and could be the perfect addition to a Central Division for either league.

This is not based on any rumors, speculation, etc. this is just for fun so take it as that. It's the offseason when everything is not so realistic and not so active. Have fun with it and add your location ideas in the comments section.

Fun Things to do This Weekend besides Watch the Yankees

This post is all in fun, please treat it as such.

The New York Yankees travel home to the Bronx tonight to play host to the Boston Red Sox in the first of a three-game set. We’ve all watched the Yankees this season and in the immortal words of myself on twitter, the Yankees suck! Not really but they aren’t playing exceptionally well and they especially struggled against the Boston Red Sox in a sweep inside Fenway Park last weekend. Do you really want to sit at home or sit inside Yankee Stadium and watch the Yankees lose three more games against a guy that looks like Shrek, a guy that looks like a garden gnome, a guy that got arrested for stealing laptops in college and a guy that refused to shave his beard to come to the Yankees? I know I don’t so here are a few fun ideas to do this weekend besides watch the Yankees.

Captain America Civil War is coming out in theaters. I’m not a big movie guy personally and I’m especially not a big superhero movie guy, although I did enjoy Deadpool, but this one looks good. It may be worth checking it out if you can’t wait for it to come out on the internet.

The NBA playoffs are going on as are the NHL playoffs. Again, not a huge fan of either but I will check in with the NBA playoffs from time to time.

Read a book. The good people at Summer Game Books have been nice enough to send me some complimentary copies of their baseball related books in PDF format that I need to catch up on. I think I will!

The Walking Dead: Road to Survival game for iOS and Android is incredibly addicting. Incredibly.

Go outside and do something. It’s good for the soul!

And the final thing you can do for fun this weekend besides watching the New York Yankees is to go to your local Wal Mart after 9:00 pm. That sounds incredibly boring on paper but just try it and thank me later. There is always something going on after 9:00 pm. PeopleofWalMart.com stuff going on. You’re welcome.

Quick Hit: The Yankees NBA Pickup Team

Many fans of Major League Baseball and the New York Yankees in specific are solely baseball fans but other enjoy other sports. I've seen many of my Twitter follows tweet #KnicksTape or #LGR or tweet about the firing of this Jets coach or this Giants coach and that got me thinking, how would these Yankees stack up against other leagues in other sports? The Knicks and Nets are the home teams so let's compare them to these Yankees but not in the way you would think. It would be impossible to compare how Carmelo Anthony would do with a bat in his hand and it would be impossible to judge how Aroldis Chapman would do down in the paint at Madison Square Garden but we can see how they stack up another way, literally.

Yankees:
Lane Adams 6'4"
Greg Bird 6'4"
James Kaprielian 6'4"
Chasen Shreve 6'4"
Aroldis Chapman 6'5"
Ivan Nova 6'5"
CC Sabathia 6'6"
Tyler Webb 6'6"
Aaron Judge 6'7"
Andrew Miller 6'7"
Michael Pineda 6'7"
Dellin Betances 6'8"

Knicks:
Jose Calderon 6'3"
Arron Afflalo 6'5"
Thanasis Antetokounmpo 6'7"
Carmelo Anthony 6'8"
Robin Lopez 7'0"
Kristaps Porzingis 7'3"

Nets:
Jarrett Jack 6'3"
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson 6'7"
Thaddeus Young 6'8"
Willie Reed 6'10"
Brook Lopez 7'0"

Single-Team MLB.TV Streaming is on the Way!

For the first time in sports streaming history Major League Baseball and their streaming service MLB.TV are offering an a la carte option to their fans. In year's past you had to purchase the MLB.TV service for all 30 teams if you wanted to see out of market games like myself and the price was a bit bulky. Sure I sucked it up and paid it anyway, I need to see my Yankees, but it looks like I may be getting a break as soon as the 2016 season as MLB.TV looks to be headed towards offering a one-team streaming service option.

The league will not confirm this until February according to FORBES but the league didn't deny it either saying this:

“… beginning next season MLB will make single-team, out-of-market streams available for purchase (alongside the out-of-market package) on MLB.TV.”

There's no word on how much this will cost fans but it would presumably be considerably cheaper than the $130 a season that MLB.TV Premium costs now. There's also no word if this will start out as a "per game" experiment or if it will go all season long but you would have to think it would be the latter and not the former. It would make sense for them to do both in my opinion.

To give you an idea of where this is headed the NHL had a similar issue come out recently and they settled by offering one-team out of market streaming for a 20% discount (which would put MLB.TV at roughly $104 a season) of what it would cost to stream all the games live. Stay tuned, but it's coming.

FanDuels and DraftKings Still Under Attack

Every day it seems like we hear more and more criticism and litigation against popular daily fantasy sports sites like FanDuels and DraftKings. It all started when the daily fantasy sports leagues dealt with an insider trading bout and has gone downhill from there. It has even gotten to the point now that if you live in the state of New York you cannot participate in the daily fantasy “gambling” that’s going on at these two sites. FanDuels and DraftKings are in hot water and big trouble and now leagues such as Major League Baseball are getting dragged down with them.

Major League Baseball along with the NBA, NHL and MLS were part of a motion that seeks to add them as defendants to a class-action lawsuit filed against these two companies. All told a whopping 51 companies were named in the lawsuit after either having invested into FanDuels and/or DraftKings or facilitated gambling. The lawsuit includes claims for “negligence, breach of contract, unjust enrichment as well as civil RICO and civil conspiracy.”

Other notable companies being listed in the lawsuit are Visa, MasterCard, American Express, J.P. Morgan, Capital One and PayPal.

It’s awfully convenient for MLB to be making money off of, advertising for and partnering with DraftKings and FanDuels in the same season that new Commissioner Rob Manfred meets with Pete Rose about his lifetime ban for betting on baseball… isn’t it?

Saturday Night Open Thread

The New York Yankees have already played an afternoon game today with the Boston Red Sox so I decided to go with a Saturday Night Open Thread for you guys. The long awaited Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather fight is tonight on PPV so there’s that to talk about and plenty of hockey and playoff NBA basketball to discuss along with some MLB games still in progress or yet to get underway. Have at it and enjoy the rest of your evening Yankees family.

Rob Manfred Expects Domestic Violence Policy By 2015

The new commissioner of Major League Baseball Rob Manfred is doing something that neither the NBA nor NFL are doing, being proactive about domestic violence. Manfred expects there to be a policy in place written into the Collective Bargaining Agreement before the beginning of the 2015 season regarding domestic violence by the players representing MLB. Good for Manfred and great news that MLB seems to be the new morale police in the sports world, and that may sound sarcastic but I assure you that it’s not.

Manfred claims that negotiations are already underway between the players union and the league on a new domestic violence policy and expects the policy to be in place before the start of next season. Manfred has been quoted as saying “the tones have been very positive” by USAToday.com and assures the fans that they will take their time and get it right rather than simply put something out there for the sake of putting something in place.

They may not admit to this but this policy has to be reactionary from the NFL and Ray Rice situation that happened this offseason. Rice struck his wife in an elevator and the entire thing was caught on camera. The NHL also suspended Los Angeles Kings defenseman Slava Voynov indefinitely after he was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence even without being formally charged with anything. Sports are cracking down on domestic violence and all I have to say is that it’s sad it has come to this but it is about damn time that it gets done.

A big thank you goes out to Commissioner Manfred, the players union, and everyone involved in the process that are keeping the players’ families, wives, and children safe.

Check Out Henrick Lundqvist Stadium Series Mask

Henrick Lundqvist will be participating in the 2014 NHL Coors Light Stadium Series at the end of this month and will be representing the home state of New York sports.  The two games will be at Yankee Stadium as the House that the Boss built will hold outside hockey so it is only fitting that three Yankees legends will be on his mask. Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Joe DiMaggio are on the right side of his mask for the New York Rangers goalie. Pretty cool.

Lundqvist will also have on pinstriped pads and guards, see below:

NHL Game Coming To Yankees Stadium In January

The House that George Steinbrenner built will hos two NHL games outside in the newest version of Yankees Stadium. The New York Rangers will host the New York Islanders on January 26th in an afternoon game and three days later on January 29th will host the New Jersey Devils in a night game. This will be the first version of Yankees Stadium that will have ever hosted a hockey game so this place should be packed and electric. In its short history the new Yankees Stadium has now hosted a boxing match, a college football game, hosted games for soccer teams, and saw a World Series clinched in four short years.

Yankee Stadium Will Host 2 NHL Games In January

The NHL has announced that they will host two outdoor games at Yankees Stadium in January 2014. The New York Rangers and the New Jersey Devils will play on January 26th and the New York Rangers and the New York Islanders will play on January 29th.
