Things to Do During a Yankees Off Day

Good morning everyone. There isn’t a Yankees game on today so what on Earth will we do with all our extra time we have?

  • Well, it is a Thursday. Maybe go to work? Just a thought.

  • If you’re off work today, maybe go outside? I know what people say these days about cancer, the sun, etc. but a little Vitamin D never killed anyone. Don’t quote me on that though.

  • The Netflix original 13 Reasons Why is coming out with a season 2 TOMORROW so if you haven’t seen the original series, or you want to binge it before the second season comes out, now would be the time to do so.

  • Black Panther came out on DVD Tuesday if you haven’t seen it yet.

  • Start a new mobile game. Walking Dead Road to Survival is one that I play as well as Tap Sports Baseball 2018 and Marvel Strike Force.

  • You could follow us on Twitter, @GreedyStripes, and be entertained daily by yours truly.

Or, you could just rest. I think that is what I will do. Enjoy your day everyone!!

Fun Things to do This Weekend besides Watch the Yankees

This post is all in fun, please treat it as such.

The New York Yankees travel home to the Bronx tonight to play host to the Boston Red Sox in the first of a three-game set. We’ve all watched the Yankees this season and in the immortal words of myself on twitter, the Yankees suck! Not really but they aren’t playing exceptionally well and they especially struggled against the Boston Red Sox in a sweep inside Fenway Park last weekend. Do you really want to sit at home or sit inside Yankee Stadium and watch the Yankees lose three more games against a guy that looks like Shrek, a guy that looks like a garden gnome, a guy that got arrested for stealing laptops in college and a guy that refused to shave his beard to come to the Yankees? I know I don’t so here are a few fun ideas to do this weekend besides watch the Yankees.

Captain America Civil War is coming out in theaters. I’m not a big movie guy personally and I’m especially not a big superhero movie guy, although I did enjoy Deadpool, but this one looks good. It may be worth checking it out if you can’t wait for it to come out on the internet.

The NBA playoffs are going on as are the NHL playoffs. Again, not a huge fan of either but I will check in with the NBA playoffs from time to time.

Read a book. The good people at Summer Game Books have been nice enough to send me some complimentary copies of their baseball related books in PDF format that I need to catch up on. I think I will!

The Walking Dead: Road to Survival game for iOS and Android is incredibly addicting. Incredibly.

Go outside and do something. It’s good for the soul!

And the final thing you can do for fun this weekend besides watching the New York Yankees is to go to your local Wal Mart after 9:00 pm. That sounds incredibly boring on paper but just try it and thank me later. There is always something going on after 9:00 pm. PeopleofWalMart.com stuff going on. You’re welcome.

TGP Saturday Night Open Thread

Boy do I need an open thread tonight, I’m whooped. First and foremost watching the Yankees is just mentally draining lately and it is especially nerve wracking when you watch them play against a division rival like the Tampa Bay Rays. Then I had to weed eat two acres of grass today because it was getting long and my lawnmower did not want to start. After working on it for about an hour I gave up and weed eated (which is not a word I know but I’m tired and my mind doesn’t work right now) everything. I’m getting too old for that.

Also as you know I am an avid Walking Dead fan and I play their app Walking Dead Road to Survival. Well a couple weekend a month factions can go head-to-head in All Out War and that was this weekend. It’s basically 72 hours of taking strong points and killing characters. Well, maybe a little crap talking too but I’ll never tell. I’m beat so here is your open thread for the night. Be good because I’m going to bed soon.

Oh wait, I can’t. UFC 197 and Jon Jones is tonight. Crap. Well, have a good one anyway!

TGP Prospects Night Open Thread featuring Donny Sands

The New York Yankees are known for making dreams come true. I gather to think that more amateurs and children want to be Yankees than any other team. The Yankees have arguably the biggest following in all of Major League Baseball and one of the biggest in the world so when kids like Donny Sands gets drafted by the organization you always hear these feel good stories shortly after. The Yankees made Sands dream come true in the 8th round of the 2015 MLB First Year Players Draft and in this video Sands, formerly of Salpointe Catholic,  surprises his mother Alma at work.

Need something to make you smile and feel good before watching the horror that is the Walking Dead? This is it ladies and gentleman, check it out and feel good. Enjoy and good night!

In the Zombie Apocalypse Which Yankees Would I Want on my Side?

The month of February can be an eventful one in a guy’s life when you look at the big picture. First and foremost it’s the month that Valentine’s Day falls on so either you get to share the day with the love of your life, or the one you think is the love of your life anyway, and you’re happy or you’re the guy laughing at all the suckers being forced into buying the roses and chocolates and expensive dinners just because the calendar says so. You also have pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training camp and full team workouts while on this blog specifically you have the beginning of Prospects Month (two days away!). The most important part of February of all may be the fact that the AMC television program The Walking Dead comes back on this month as well which got me to thinking, what members of the Yankees would I want with me when the zombie apocalypse breaks out?

The key to any survival is getting in quick and getting out quicker so you’re going to need some speed, why not start at the top with Jacoby Ellsbury? For some reason he’s always reminded me of Glenn in the way that he could go on supply runs and never seem to get caught or die. Just as long as he doesn’t steal Maggie away from me…

Speaking of Maggie, who I find to be one of the most beautiful people on this planet, the player’s wife who would have to play Maggie and who is showcased on the Wives & Girlfriends section of the site would have to be the wife of Mark Teixeira. Although I’m a sucker for a brunette.

Back to the whole surviving thing though and as much as I like to think of myself we’re going to need a leader. We’re going to need our Rick. We’re going to need someone there that will do whatever it takes to not only survive but to flourish. We need a captain. Brian McCann is probably one of the biggest leaders on this team I know and one of the most intimidating figures on the team, ask Carlos Gomez.

For every Ying you need a Yang, the spiritual calm. The Morgan of the group. Didi Gregorius fits that mold quite well I think.

And finally every constable needs an assistant, a Michonne who is not afraid to get things done but also has the calm about her in the heat of the moment to keep the hot-headed McCann in line when necessary. Andrew Miller.

We may have to let Miller grow his hair out again….
