I’m Hungry: Yankee Stadium Food

Good morning everyone. Am I the only one that woke up hungry as hell today? I doubt it, but really. I’m hungry and the food at Yankee Stadium this season looks absolutely amazing. Let’s take advantage of the off day today as the Yankees travel back to the Bronx and hit the high spots in terms of food choices inside Yankee Stadium III.

Put away the peanuts, stay away from the Cracker Jacks, and popcorn is a waste of goof stomach space here in the Bronx. Especially when you consider that section 127 has hand rolled taquitos in a plastic Yankees cup! I love taquitos, and I won’t apologize for it either. The three taquitos are sitting in a helping of chili con queso and pico de gallo. Black bean and chicken are your protein options.

Bacon cheeseburger crispy dumpling. Enough said, right? The Noodle Bowl Stand in section 127 sells ground beef, bacon and cheese wrapped in a dumpling before being fried and serves them with Thousand island dressing and a stadium-made pickle.

Adobo Bao can be found in the Toyota Terrace and is a Filipino-style pulled chicken thigh and garlic aioli sauce topped with crispy pork cracklings in a steamed bun. If this is how they eat in the Philippines, count me in.

The Rotisserie Chicken and Steak Stand in section is where you need to go for all the meat you could ever dream of. The rotisserie chickens are all organic and cooked there right on the spot, served in halves with fries. The steak is a 10-ounce flatiron steak that is also served with fries.

Of course, you can always stop by Jersey Mike’s sub sandwiches, Mighty Quinn’s BBQ, Papa John’s Pizza (gross), Ben & Jerry’s, Nathan’s Famous (a must), Bacon on a Stick, Tater Kegs and so much more. Come hungry.

I’m Hungry: New Stadium Food at Yankee Stadium

So we covered some stadium food around the league already this winter including the tamale dog that the Texas Rangers organization will be rolling out this season but we have yet to touch on the new dishes that you can enjoy this season at Yankee Stadium. We right that wrong today as we take a look at the new stadium food that you can enjoy all year long in the Bronx. Take a look.

Yankee Stadium is bringing in Mighty Quinn’s BBQ, Bareburger and Lobel’s to go along with their six new social gatherings that were renovated into the stadium this winter. Those menus can be found online but they are pretty well known in the area so I doubt you will need to. You know what these big “star” vendors bring to the table each and every day, literally.

New York also has the Yankee Dinger which is basically a grilled slider topped with shaved white onions, pickles, American cheese and yellow mustard on a steamed potato bun as well as their classic French Dip sandwich which consists of shaved prime rib, caramelized onions and melted Swiss cheese on a Semolina roll dipped in French onion soup. I just gained three pounds just thinking about that sandwich. If you’re looking for gluten free options you can find those at Melissa’ Farmers Market but my personal preference would be Chinese bao which is filled with pork belly, prime rib or buffalo cauliflower which can be found on the Toyota Terrace. I have a weakness for pork belly.

It’s hard to turn down The Mutz though which is a concession sandwich shop whose specialty sandwich consists of stuffed chunks of mozzarella tossed with mixed vegetables. Because vegetables are good for you and all.

So much good food and so much to see inside Yankee Stadium this season… where to begin?

I’m Hungry: The Texas Rangers Two-Foot Long Tamale Dog

You guys know how the start of every year goes. New Years Resolutions are thrown out there, although I never participate myself, diets are gone on and people try to change. By around March or April they are back in their stretchy pants and they are back to being the person that they always were and were always meant to be, and that’s not an insult or meant as a bad thing. I just truly believe you are who you are and you shouldn’t fight that or want to change that for anyone. Anyway, before I get too off topic and ramble on I’ll digress and agree to disagree. What also comes around on the blog right around this time of the year are these amazing new dishes and foods that you can get at the ballpark that make you want to take that new, healthy and dieting you and throw them off a cliff. The Texas Rangers two-foot long tamale dog is just that.

At Globe Life Park this season the Texas Rangers will be selling a 24-inchg tamale filled hot dog. The tamale filled hot dog will be covered in chili and nacho cheese and will set you back a whopping $27, but really that’s going to feed like a family of four if we are being honest or two really REALLY hungry people.

Texas will also be selling “Texas Snowballs” this season which are essentially shredded brisket covered in funnel cake batter that is fried and topped with powdered sugar. I love brisket and who doesn’t love a funnel cake? Road trip anyone?

And now that you’re drooling and hungry again just a few hours after your lunch break my job here is done. Have a great day everyone and stay strong to those who are serious about getting healthy and losing weight and/or changing their lives for the better. I know I joked about it earlier but I truly think people can do whatever they set their mind to as long as they are doing it for all the right reasons. Go you!

I’m Hungry: Texas Rangers Postseason Menu

This is a feature we normally do in Spring Training and right before the season starts and we call it “I’m Hungry” but after reading what the Texas Rangers will be bringing to the Ballpark in Arlington this postseason I had to do a special edition tonight. Playoff baseball is here and the Rangers want their fans with plenty of energy to cheer and they have released four new menu items that sound crazy, but look amazing. Let’s check them out.

The N.E.Q Sandwich is the first addition and it stands for “Never Ever Quit” and the sandwich may never ever quit tearing up your digestive tract and system. The sandwich is a Philly cheesesteak sandwich stuffed with fried jalapenos, onion rings, waffle fries, mozzarella sticks and queso. This also comes with a Captain Morgan sauce to top it all off making this the ultimate bar and stadium food.

The next food item is the Tamarlington Dog which is basically a hot dog inside of a tamale. Pure freaking genius, people. The dog is topped with chili and nacho cheese.

The third food item is called the Popcornopolis Pita and this item contains smoked brisket, macaroni and cheese and caramel popcorn. Yes, yes and no. I don’t care if you bring me some peanuts and cracker jacks, just don’t mix them. Gross.

The final item on the menu for this postseason is the Atomic Burger and it is exactly how it sounds. Hot. The burger is town pounds of meat with ghost pepper cheese sauce. Ghost peppers are 400 times hotter than a jalapeno. No thank you.

The 2016 season is just six days away and your Thunder are proud to announce several additions to the family-friendly experience at ARM & HAMMER Park.

"We had such great feedback from our fans about the pork roll offerings at the Trenton Thunder World Famous Case's Pork Roll Eating Championship in September that we had to find a way to bring these great items to our fans for every game this season," said Thunder GM/COO Jeff Hurley.

Pork Roll Paradise, presented by Case's Pork Roll, will offer the widest range of pork roll items in the state of New Jersey. The stand will be part of the first base concession stand and offer the classic Thunder Dog: 1/5 lb hot dog, 1/4 lb of pork roll and two slices of American Cheese on a torpedo roll. The Oink, Cluck and Moo, the classic New Jersey breakfast favorite, pork roll, egg, and cheese on a kaiser roll. The Swine Sandwich, a pork fans' dream containing two slices of pork roll, pulled pork, and bacon bits on a kaiser roll. The Pig Pen lays chopped pork roll, pulled pork, and bacon bits on top of a bed of mashed potatoes. In addition to Pork Roll Paradise, the food options at ARM & HAMMER Park will now feature two soft serve concession stands one each at the end of the 1st and 3rd base concourse.

Thunder fans will be swept away by the aromas of the brand new Nuts For You stand located on the first base concourse past the Waterfront Grill. Nuts For You will serve cinnamon roasted almonds, cashews and pecans in small and large sizes.

The most kid-friendly improvement is the brand new Family Fun Zone located on the first base side of the stadium. New inflatable games, decorative lights, a giant four-in-a-row, and on select nights balloon twisters and face painters will be outside the Family Fun Zone. Fans will notice the addition of a brand new speed pitch on the third base side of the ballpark behind Fitch's Place. Fans will also enjoy the addition of a brand new Plinko board, presented by Kennedy's Cheesecakes, on the main concourse to earn great prizes at every Thunder game.

The transformation of the luxury suite level at ARM & HAMMER Park began this off-season. A number of suites received new furniture, flooring, and new televisions.

New merchandise will be available at the Thunder Company Store in 2016. A brand new selection of Men's, Women's, and Children's products from Under Armour, Columbia Sportswear, 5th and Ocean apparel. Ballpark Food at THE Yankee Stadium

We have gone over a few new additions around the league in the ballpark food category and we have saved possibly the best for last, Yankee Stadium. Yankee Stadium, like many other ballparks, have chef’s at hand at all times during the season and these talented chefs have come up with some interesting new eateries for us all to enjoy this season.

It begins and ends with the two-foot-long cheesesteak that will set you back about $27. The steak is topped with white American cheese or Cheez Whiz and served on a fresh-baked hoagie roll. How long before there is some contest where the thing is free if someone can eat it all in under 20 minutes? I’d be down to try it.

If that or the play on the field isn’t enough to give you a heart attack then the Barnyard Wedding will which is basically a chicken sandwich with cheddar cheese and hash browns. Oh and all of that is on top of a hamburger patty. Yeah. They went there.

I may want to try a G.O.A.T burger which is a bacon cheeseburger with pastrami but I believe the “Double-Double” which is a double cheeseburger with a pair of grilled cheese sandwiches as buns may be a bit overboard.

Give me a French onion grilled cheese sandwich and I’m happy, I’m just saying.

Ballpark Food: The Pirates Cracker Jack & Mac Dog

Usually I get excited and a bit hungry when typing out these posts every year but this one I am completely on the fence about. At PNC Park this season, home of the Pittsburgh Pirates, the team will be serving a Cracker Jack & Mac dog.

The hot dog will be topped with caramel sauce, Crack Jack, jalapenos and macaroni and cheese. Gross. That’s all I have. Gross. Makes me want to puke just thinking about it. No thank you Pittsburgh. No thank you.

RiverDogs Embrace Charleston Culinary Scene with Abundance of New Options

RiverDogs Embrace Charleston Culinary Scene with an Abundance of New Options
Tasty standards return while trending new choices for the 2016 season

CHARLESTON, SC – The old adage “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” just doesn’t apply to the Charleston RiverDogs’ food and beverage division.

After all, for years the fare at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park has been lauded nationally by the likes of Rachel Ray, Adam Richman, The Bob & Tom Show, Southern Living and a host of others who know a thing or two about enjoyable and tasty food, including our fans.

So why did the RiverDogs revamp their concessions for the 2016 campaign?

“Our goal every season is to develop fun and exciting menus for our fans to enjoy at the ballpark,” said F&B Director Josh Shea. “This being the 20th season at The Joe, we felt it was the right time to have creative changes in our overall setup and food options this season and to stay current with food trends.”

Shea, who worked with food guru John Schumacher for three years, is now the Top Dog in the RiverDogs’ F&B division as Schumacher departed to chase his longtime dream of owning his own restaurant. (“Harold’s Cabin” is located on the corner of Congress & President streets in downtown Charleston and is set to open soon.) Shea, along with Assistant F&B Director Jay Weekley, are carrying on Schumacher’s legacy with their unique and creative food ideas at the park.

“We’ve got an entire list of new items at The Joe,” said Shea. “I truly believe that there is something new for every fan as we celebrate the 20th year at The Joe while we retain some of our popular favorites. Overall, I’d say that the selections for this year will be exciting and will push our ballpark food to another level.”

Here are the new food items for 2016 with several new concession stands:

DogWorld

Housing the famed “Home Wrecker,” DogWorld has delighted fans with unique hot dog creations over the years and continues to push the boundaries on what you can put on your frankfurter. Along with the foot-long, half-pound, all-beef hot dog with another half-pound of toppings piled on, DogWorld’s new offerings this season will give you a global spin on the American classic.

New offerings for this season include the Picnic Dog, an all-beef Hebrew National six-inch dog topped with slow-cooked baked beans and topped with Jalapeno bacon. For those looking for a tropical spin on a bite at The Joe this summer, look no further than the Hawaiian Dogthat is piled high with pineapple relish and topped with lemon and herb aioli.

Also returning for a second season will be the Southern Kimchi Dog, a frankfurter that brings the best of the Lowcountry and Korean cuisine. Capped with the seemingly unorthodox combination of local kimchi and shredded collard slaw with toasted sesame and soy dressing adorned with sweet piquant peppers on top, you’ll be wondering why no one has ever tried this before.

Pie House

The stand known for its hot pizza and refreshing beershakes and now presenting an expanded menu of offerings, the Pie House returns to delight fans at The Joe in 2016. The Pie House will slide into the former Taco Stand spot as the revamped spot for Italian cuisine adds a pair of new food items and another addition to the storied history of beershakes.

The Palmetto Biscotti shake combines Biscotti cookie dough with vanilla ice cream, caramel syrup, and Palmetto espresso porter brew to create an amazing one-of-a-kind beershake experience. If you thought the regular, old Palmetto shake was delicious, well you’re in for a treat.

New at the Pie House in 2016, the Drunkin’ Brat is a bratwurst cooked to perfection and placed in an Italian pep roll and topped with beer cheese. Making a return to the Pie House, the 24-ounce Soft Pretzel is served in a pizza box set with sides of marinara, garlic butter sauce and beer cheese. It’s enough to feed 2-3 adults, but we won’t judge if you pick a spot in the ballpark and make this a takeout pretzel for one. For the first time in its history, the Pie House will also feature dessert pies in a variety of flavors for fans to enjoy!

Chelsea’s Cantina

Named for the RiverDogs’ popular mascot, the all-new Chelsea’s Cantina will offer fans a unique blend of Southwestern inspired dishes. Now operating out of the former Pie House location next to Scoops, the stand will once again offer the popular Kitchen Sink Nachos, which includes everything in the kitchen but the kitchen sink (sink sold separately, just ask), as well as a brand new offering of rice bowl combinations.

New offerings at Chelsea’s this year include the Lowcountry Bowl, served with Spanish seasoned rice and topped with pulled pork, smoked collard greens (this is South Carolina, remember?), mac-n-cheese and drizzled with appetizing barbeque sauce. The Southwestern Chicken Bowl is served with Spanish rice and topped with Chipotle shredded chicken, roasted corn salsa, black beans, cilantro coleslaw and drizzled with lime-infused crema. Finally, the Spicy Chorizo Bowl includes Spanish rice topped with tasty Chorizo, roasted corn salsa, black beans, cilantro slaw and drizzled with lime-infused crema.

Scoops

Built for kids and adults who want to be kids at heart, this customary stand will continue to serve the traditional ice cream waffle cones, milkshakes and snacks for ballpark goers of all ages with a few new curveballs thrown in the mix.

A new Kids Meal highlights some of the new menu offerings at Scoops that includes a basic grilled cheese sandwich on Texas toast served with fresh seasonal fruit. The Uptown Grilled Cheese features smoked Gouda cheese with a crispy slab of peppered bacon and sliced fresh tomatoes and is grilled to golden perfection. The All-American Grilled Cheese features a hefty five slices of American cheese grilled until its golden brown and gooey. The Brie & Blueberry Grilled Cheese features a savory and creamy brie topped with fresh blueberries to offer the perfect combination of sweet and flavorful.

Smokin’ Joe’s

Named after former Charleston Mayor Joe Riley and our ballpark’s namesake, “Smokin’ Joe’s” offers in-house smoked meats while providing a heavenly aroma perfect for enjoying a game. Located next to the Palmetto Beer Garden, the stand features smoked brisket sandwiches, pulled pork sandwiches, and the brisket ramen bowl. Smokin’ Joe’s is also back in 2016 with a pair of new menu items.

The Sweet-N-Sour Duck Wing Bowl gives you a hearty portion of duck wings brined in down-home sweet tea and smoked to perfection. This latest edition to Smokin’ Joe’s is tossed in sweet-and-sour sauce, placed on top of our tasty ramen bowl and served with fresh veggies. The Burnt End Sandwich is a slow-cooked beef brisket chopped and cooked once more in a Memphis-style barbeque sauce that is placed on an Italian pep roll and topped with pickles.

Grab-N-Go

In a unique partnership with Spinx, this stand will be strategically located right when one walks up the stairs through the Riley Park main gate. It will serve as a quick stop for those fans looking to grab an ice-cold Pepsi, water, beer or snack without having to wait in long lines. Grab-N-Go will be stocked with fresh fruit, gluten-free bars, popcorn, peanuts and a variety of new ballpark snacks.

State Fair

A haven for lovers of all things fried at The Joe this year, State Fair is a new stand that will be located right beside the Spinx Grab-N-Go stand, and will make push off that new diet you meant to start to another day.

Nothing maybe embodies the in-your-face deliciousness of the State Fair better than the Chicken-N-Double Waffle Burger, a cooked-to-perfection chicken burger dipped in waffle batter and deep fried, and then placed between two waffles and drizzled with Siracha honey sauce.

The Rolled-Up RiverDog is a new take on the classic RiverDog combination (hotdog with slaw, pickled okra, barbeque sauce) that is rolled up in an egg roll and deep fried to perfection.

Ever wondered what a classic Southern pecan pie smashed into a cheesecake wedge and then deep fried and put on a stick would taste like? The State Fair will also feature the Deep Fried Pecan Pie Cheesecake on a Stick, because all of the best things in life come deep fried and skewered.

Dave’s Country Kitchen

Offering unique twists on several classic Charleston-style foods, this concourse stand named in honor of RiverDogs President and General Manager Dave Echols will offer fans a wealth of Lowcountry inspired options near the front gate.

The Shrimp-N-Grit Corn Dog offers savory shrimp and familiar Lowcountry grits formed and placed on a stick which is coated in hushpuppy batter and fried to a deep golden brown and served with tomato gravy.

The Chuck Town Hot Brown is the RiverDogs’ spin on the classic Kentucky hot brown. We use Texas toast and top it with a fresh, grilled shrimp cake, pablano queso, sliced pickled green tomato and topped with crispy Jalapeno bacon.

The Country Kitchen also offers plenty of Dave’s favorites including pickled shrimp, alligator sausage and pickled okra fries.

Craft Spuds-N-Suds

This new concession portable located adjacent to Dave’s Country Kitchen features new French fry options along with an assortment of craft beer. Along with its abundance of craft brews, Spuds-N-Suds offers the Charleston Poutine, a pure Carolina gumbo poured over the top of a double beer-battered curly fry and finished with fresh herbs grown on-site.

The RiverDogs, the Class A affiliate of the New York Yankees, begin their season - the 20th in their history at Joseph P. Riley Park - on April 6 with an exhibition game against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans at 7:05 pm and then follow that with Opening Night, also at 7:05 pm, that begins a seven-game homestand that features in-state rival Columbia Fireflies (April 7-10) and the Asheville Tourists (April 11-13). Ticket information may be secured by contact the box office at 843/577-DOGS (3647) or online at www.riverdogs.com.

Ballpark Food: The Diamondbacks Cheeseburger Dog

You guys knows me, I love food and I especially love ballpark food. Every year around this time new and creative inventions and dishes are released to hype up people like me, and for good reason because it works, and to garner attention and anticipation. The Arizona Diamondbacks did just that this week when they announced the release of their “Cheeseburger Dog.”

It’s self-explanatory but I’ll still explain nonetheless. It’s a hot dog, but it’s also a cheeseburger. The hamburgers are char-grilled and deep-fried with bacon, lettuce, tomato and a special sauce inside of a hot dog bun. The Cheeseburger Dog joins the Churro Dog, the MegaDog and the 16-inch fried D-Bat Dog at Chase Field this season.

Enjoy! Just don’t tell me about it because I’m already hungry!

Budweiser Clydesdales & Brewmaster Tour to Visit RiverDogs

King of Beers showcase will be on April 23 as RiverDogs host Savannah Sand Gnats

CHARLESTON, SC – Here is another reason to get excited about a Charleston RiverDogs’ Thirsty Thursday.

On Thursday, April 23, the world famous Budweiser Clydesdales, along with the King of Beers’ Brewmaster Tour will visit Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park prior to the Charleston RiverDogs hosting rival Savannah Sand Gnats. First pitch is slated for 7:05 pm.

“Fans of all ages will enjoy seeing the iconic Clydesdales, who represent Budweiser, one of our premier and longtime sponsors,” said RiverDogs General Manager Dave Echols. “Having them parade around Riley Park will be a most-impressive sight.”

The impressive and world-renown Clydesdale horses are an enduring symbol of Budweiser’s rich heritage, tradition and commitment to quality. The hitch team’s visit to Riley Park is one of hundreds of appearances it will make in 2015 and it never fails to draw a crowd. This year marks the 82ndanniversary of the Budweiser Clydesdales, which made their first appearance on behalf of Anheuser-Busch on April 7, 1933, when they delivered a case of Budweiser to the White House in celebration of the repeal of prohibition of beer.

The Clydesdales will set up in adjacent Brittlebank Park at 5 pm, and their visit will be free to the public. At 6:30, the team will enter Riley Park and parade around the field for fans to get a close-up look at these stunning horses.

In addition to the Clydesdales’ appearance, Budweiser will also bring their Brewmaster Tour to Riley Park. This is a one-of-a-kind mobile experience providing guests 21 and over a glimpse of Budweiser’s brewing process. Fashioned after Budweiser’s Brewery Tours, the 48-foot trailer evolves into a model that offers consumers a step-by-step view of the 30-day brewing process of Budweiser.

Brewmasters lead this fully immersive experience by interacting with the ingredients, smelling aromas off the brewkettle, experiencing the cool aging cellars and tasting the finished product. After the tour is completed, visitors are encouraged to hang out in the area as fans will be able to talk with the brewmasters and purchase Budweiser gear through their online store. Admission will be free.

Yankee Stadium Tour: The Eats

Can you tell that the wife, like 85% of women, had a New Year’s resolution to lose weight? Can you tell that I’m freaking hungry over here? Anyway I have been going over some of the more unique and artery blocking foods at the ballpark this season and I realized that I hadn’t gone over what you can eat inside our very own home ballpark, Yankee Stadium. A wrong will be righted today as I skip over the traditional peanuts and Cracker Jack and go straight to the meat and potatoes, or the chicken and the spaghetti sauce.

There is a place inside the stadium called simply “Parm” where you can get eggplant and mozzarella sandwiches to go along with your traditional chicken Parmesan sandwiches and meatball Parmesan sandwiches. You can always skip the traditional hot dogs and go with a fried pickle from Brother Jimmy’s BBQ and nothing goes better with an $8 Budweiser than a hand-carved steak sandwich from Lobel’s.

These sandiwches are not cheap, mind you, as the sandiwches at Parm run around $14 each while the steak sandwiches at Lobel’s run around $15 to go with your $5 Pepsi or bottle of water but the taste is absolutely amazing. These are places to go if you want to grab something quick and get back to your seat. If you’re looking for a more sit down type environment there is always NYY Steak which is located right above the Hard Rock Café at Gate 6.

You can also visit Johnny Rockets, Carl’s Steaks and NYY Steak Express if you’re looking for some meat but if you’re looking for just a snack then my go to treat has to be Garlic Fries. I may not be getting kissed at the end of the night but at least my stomach is happy. You can also check out Wholly Guacamole for the build your own nachos bar or you can stop by the Noodle Bowl and Sushi Stand besides Tommy Bahama’s Marlin Bar.

There are tons of good eats at Yankee Stadium, I didn’t even mention Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs, Hebrew National dogs, Premio sausages, Papa John’s Pizza and Beers of the World. You can blow some serious jack inside the stadium but the taste of the food is close to being unmattched anywhere around the league. Come hungry Yankees fans, that’s the best advice that I can give you if you’re coming to Yankee Stadium in 2015.

New Stadium Food Coming in 2015

If you guys have been reading this winter you guys know that I love stadium food and ballpark food so I was excited when I saw all the new and great food coming to a ballpark near you in 2015. From the St. Louis Cardinals breaded chicken waffle sandwich to the Milwaukee Brewers nachos on a stick I was salivating looking at the food around the league that I will share with you today. Get hungry Yankees family because baseball is back!

I love garlic fries and the Chicago White Sox are taking that to the next level with Parmesangarlic waffle fries that are showcased in the picture above. I'm sold, hey D Rob send me some tickets bro.  The Kansas City Royals will have a steak and cheese dog this year with your run of the mill hot dog, steak pieces and melted cheese on top. Where do I sign up? I think my ultimate favorite though has to go to the Houston Astros who came up with a chicken and waffle cone, seen below. It looks like little pieces of popcorn chicken, yum, inside a waffle cone, yum, with mashed potatoes and honey mustard sauce. Yum Yum Yum.

And to wash it all down? The Philadelphia Phillies will be serving hard liquor at the stadium in 2015. I guess they knew what the team was going to do on the field and made the tough decision out of necessity, just saying...

Charleston Riverdogs Introduce New Food & Beverage Items for 2015

Brisket Ramen Bowl Highlights RiverDogs’

New Food & Beverage for the 2015 Season

New items include Summer Harvest Salad, Kimchi Dog & chocolate covered bacon

CHARLESTON, SC – One of the highlights of the Charleston RiverDogs’ preseason is the announcement of what those wacky guys in the kitchen have new coming up in the concession stands.

Rest assured, fans won’t be disappointed. In fact, there will be several new mouth-watering items at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park this spring when the season opens on April 9.

For a very long time, the Charleston RiverDogs have been recognized for their diverse and tasty concession offerings, which have in recent years drawn Food Network star Rachel Ray and Man v. Food celebrity Adam Richman to Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park to sample the variety of delicacies. Whether it’s at the Doghouse, DogWorld, Joe’s Grill or the Pie House, fans can always find something to satisfy their every craving.

And this year, multiple new items are being added to the fan-favorite hot dog menu and the culmination of meticulous work in the RiverDogs’ top-secret test kitchen.

John Schumacher, the food guru for the RiverDogs’ ownership ensemble, The Goldklang Group, said that the new items were “the result of extensive kitchen research” for new ideas.

“With Josh Shea in his third year as our F&B Director and with the addition of Jay Weekley, we’ve again raised the bar of expectation and increase our food exploration,” said Schumacher.

Smokin Joe’s stand has been relocated inside the Beer Garden and features a ramped-up menu. A highlight is the Brisket Ramen Bowl, which is a healthy serving of Ramen noodles sautéed in an orange teriyaki glaze topped with smoked beef brisket, snow peas, carrots, green onions and a hardboiled egg. There will also be a Smoked Turkey Wing Basket that features two half-pound turkey wings that are slow-smoked and served with a blackberry sage barbeque sauce over a basket of in-house cooked pork rinds.

In an effort to enhance the healthy food offerings served at DogWorld, both black bean and turkey burgers return. Added this year is the Summer Harvest Salad that feeds two-to-three adults and includes an entire head of hydroponically-grown butter leaf lettuce stuffed with grape tomatoes, edamame, and an herb and carrot quinoa mixture. It is topped with sprouts, sunflower seeds and a creamy avocado dressing, all served in a replica baseball batting helmet.

Beer shakes, an item that grows in popularity, return for their third year and the two distinct flavors – Palmetto Espresso Porter Chocolate (from a local brewery) and Guinness Caramel – will return. New this year, however, is the Shock Top Creamsicle Shake and makes its debut during the opening seven-game homestand.

The Wacko Taco Stand, a popular stop on the concourse, features a Lowcountry Taco, which is smoked pulled pork, slow cooked collard greens and mac n’ cheese topped with a Memphis-style barbeque sauce.

The Funnel Cake Stand enjoyed an offseason makeover and is now called the RiverDogs’ State Fair. And with that comes two innovative menu items: chocolate covered pepper bacon and deep-fried cheesecake on a stick.

The club introduces a new hot dog annually and this year Schumacher unveils a new “signature” specialty that will be a Southern Kimchi Dog which is a Hebrew National hot dog topped with collard greens, kimchi and piquant peppers tossed in soy sauce and a sesame seed oil sauce.

The RiverDogs will also offer a giant, 24-ounce soft pretzel that is cleverly called “A Knot to Remember,” and it is served in a pizza box with marinara, garlic butter and a nacho cheese sauce.

And finally, the Firefly Tiki Hut returns with many of the old favorites and a new Peach Moonshine Mojito.

Now Presenting the Krispy Kreme Hot Dog

As you guys know, or are slowly figuring out as the blog goes on, I love food, I love baseball and I love stadium food, especially minor league stadium food. I thought that nothing could top the grilled cheese bacon burger and the funnel cake burger I posted a few weeks back but this one may take the cake, or the donuts.

The Wilmington Blue Rocks, an affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, have partnered with Krispy Kreme to bring you the Krispy Kreme Donut Dog. I don’t know about you but I’m hungry. The Krispy Kreme glazed donut is used as the bun with the hot dog, bacon and raspberry jelly in the middle.

Yay or nay on this latest creation?

Can't Predict Baseball: Buy Me Some Peanuts & Crunch 'n Munch?

On this day in 2004 the Yankees spokesman Jason Zillo announced that Cracker Jack, baseball's most famous snack for over 100 years, will not be sold at Yankee Stadium anymore. Instead the Yankees will sell Crunch 'n Munch, a change that the Yankee Stadium fans rejected, because it "tastes better." Long story short that didn't last long and you shouldn't mess with baseball history, especially Cracker Jacks.
