  1. Pretty much the lineup I expected although I may have dropped Francisco a bit. Something I wasn't aware of is Lyle Overbay has awesome career numbers vs Lester despite being lefty vs lefty. He's 9 for 25 (.360) with 2 Doubles, 2 HRs & 8 RBI. May have considered him over Francisco who is 3 for 16 (.188) with 1 HR. Nix hits Lester very well while Cano struggles versus him.

  2. i'm optimistic that that this team can scratch enough runs out this year to be competitive with good pitching.
We've been waiting for this day a long time, thank God its here!
My article normally scheduled for Mondays at 1 PM will not be up today due to the rare Monday 1 PM game. It will run tomorrow at 1 PM instead.

  3. I agree they will be competitive. I don't think they'll win the Division but will battle for a WC. Excited to watch some real baseball after what seemed like a loooong offseason/ST.

  4. Am I the only one that things the Yankees will win the division? It's a long season. As Ellie Goulding says, "Anything Could Happen." :)

  9. I agree totally bacon.I know Mustelier can out-hit Francisco so as soon as his bruised knee is healed, he needs to get called up. And if Austin or Heathcott get off to great starts in trenton, I'd consider bringing them up IF they can get regulat At Bats.I don't know how good Austin is defensively at 1B, but if Overbay isn't hitting and Tex isn't ready, give Tyler a 1B mitt. StLouis has done this with their good hitting prospects - Allen Craig, Matt Carpenter.....they find ways to play them if they can hit....Austin has that versatility and baseball IQ that he could play OF, 1B or 3B.

  10. Looking at our lineup, it hurts to think of all the guys our Front Office have passed on over the last year or 2. Granted, thinks are dire now because of injuries to Tex & Grandy but they knew ARod was out and that Jeter was a question mark yet they passed on relatively cheap bats like Mike Morse, Kendry Morales, AJ Pyrzynski, Jeff Keppinger, etc.

And I continue to shake my head every time I see all of these International players doing well that they could have had for nothing but money.......Yu Darvish, Cespedes, Chapman, Leonys Martin, Puig, Soler, even the Korean pitcher Ryu who resembles David Wells a bit in terms of stuff and pitching style. The yanks could not afford to pass on high-end talent like that.

  11. Are Craig or Carpenter really good examples though? Both of those guys had hundreds of at bats at the AAA level before getting a callup, and we're talking about a kid that is just popping his cherry in AA.

  12. fishjam...
Back in the day, the Yankees would never have let those guys get by them at all, but alas, these are not the old days...thank goodness! We have been there and done that, some will remember how bad everything was for years, some will not...a shame!
Bad thing is, I agree, we could have used two or three of those guys without a doubt.

Has anyone notice who is hitting .375--.333---.429 and leading the team? All of them are old, long in the tooth, new players...Youkillis, Hafner and Wells.

I still think Musty should be here when he is healthy, I think that is a forgone conclusion. He would have come north with the team if not for his injury...er, maybe...you think? :)

  13. Fishjam I agree with everything you are saying and don't just blame Hal, blame Cashman.
Cashman lived on Stick's work and George's spending for a long time but you can see what he really is now. He's been exposed as incompetent.

  14. Didn't mean to compare Austin's development to anyone in particular.....am only saying that when a guy's bat is ready, they need to find him a position to play and Austin has the advantage of some defensive versatility. But it's all moot because neither Austin or any of the Yankees top prospects appear ready for the Majors. But if Slade or Austin put up a big month or 2 in Trenton that could change. IMO, if a guy shows he is ready, he can jump to the Majors from any level.

JR Murphy & Kyle Roller both have 3-run HRs so far for Trenton in the 3rd inning....Turley has given up 4 runs though.

  16. Michael P...
You are a good writer for baseball, even though we don't agree much but, you know little about business.
To George, it was a passion 2nd to none. To the kids, it is a way to live the life their dad let them get use to, without having to get a real job ( a bit unfair but so what!).
When Cashman wants to make a deal, now days, he goes to Hal and Randy (Two Bookkeepers) to get the money for the trade, if Cash can get a guy (Tex) for $16m a year for 8 years. What happens when the two WANT to be GMs say; no can do the most you can give him is $14m a year for 5 years? The deal goes south right, yes, you are right. Ok, other than Tex is there any other big time player we have signed after Dumb, dumber and dumbest took over the Tampa Cabla?
I don't think so, bottom line...everyone that wants the big money come to the Yankees, right...not so much? Hal said when he took over he would not spend as did his father.
Resigning A-Rod was not a Cashman deal, he said no but, now you see why he is going to leave (I think) when his contract is up.
