Excuse me while I go over my check list for tonight's game real quick. Popcorn, check. Phone with Twitter app, check. Ear plugs to keep from hearing John Kruk and Curt Schilling, check. It looks like I am all ready for the finale of the Subway Series inside Yankee Stadium between the New York Yankees and the New York Mets. The game will be played at 8:05 pm ET and can be seen on ESPN as a part of ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball.

Get your Yankees tickets for tonight's game because shockingly it is not too late or get a pair for the upcoming series with the Tampa Bay Rays by clicking the Yankees Tickets link at the top of our blog. Mr. Eovaldi will take it from here because I'm done talking. Go Yankees!

Jose Pirela Sent on a Rehab Assignment

Jose Pirela finally seems close to returning to baseball this season as the Yankees utility player has been sent on a rehab assignment with the Tampa Yankees. Pirela looked well on his way to making the Yankees roster out of spring training before running into the center field wall and suffering a concussion. Pirela has taken a lot longer than expected to recover from the injury and you have to wonder if there will be any long term effects due to the concussion. Either way Pirela seems well on his way to coming back to baseball this season, whether that's taking Gregorio Petit's spot on the roster in the Bronx or starting the season in Scranton and Triple-A, and that's great news either way.

Remembering The 2000 World Series - Game 5

The 2000 World Series featured the New York Yankees and the New York Mets facing off in the World Series for the first time in their history. This was the first Subway Series since 1956 when the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Yankees faced off. Let's take the time to remember Game 5 of the 2000 World Series.

In a rematch of the Game 1 pitchers duel Andy Pettitte took the mound for the Yankees and faced off against the Mets ace Al Leiter. Bernie Williams would get the scoring going with a solo home run in the top of the 2nd inning giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead. The Mets would respond by getting two unearned runs across the board in the bottom of the 2nd and would keep that lead until the 6th inning when Derek Jeter hit a game tying home run. Heading into the 9th inning the game was tied a 2-2 each when Luis Sojo hit an RBI single off of Al Leiter to give the Yankees the lead and an errant throw that ended up in the Yankees dugout allowed a 4th run to score giving the Yankees a 4-2 lead going to the bottom of the 9th. Mike Piazza would come up in the 9th as the tying run in the 9th and hit a deep fly ball to center field that would find Bernie Williams glove and that would get the Yankees their third consecutive World Series victory. Mike Stanton would get the victory and Al Leiter would take the loss while Mariano Rivera notched his second save of the World Series in the clinching game.

This would be the Yankees 26th World Series victory overall and fourth in five years cementing the dynasty.

Barry Bonds the Hall of Fame Player

Barry Lamar Bonds, the All-Time Home run king in Major League Baseball and yet his ticket to Cooperstown, New York and the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame has yet to be punched. We all know the allegations of steroid use and we all remember all too well the fallout from the Balco Clinic in San Francisco so we won’t harp on that much but instead we will discuss some of the victories that have come for Bonds since. Like many of the pitchers Bonds faced in his career the former San Francisco Giants left fielder won another battle this week that, of course in my opinion, should at least help him get into the Hall of Fame.

After 12 years of legal trouble and eight years after becoming the All-Time home run king Bonds has finally been declared a clean man, in the eyes of a judge anyway. Bonds was cleared of all charges involving steroid use on Wednesday and his felony charge of obstruction was also overturned in an appeals court in San Francisco. While Bonds has been cleared of any wrongdoings I don’t believe it will change the mind of many Hall of Fame voters, Roger Clemens was not helped by his court case that found him not guilty of obstruction and perjury, but it’s still a victory for Bonds and his fans.

This doesn’t mean Bonds did steroids or didn’t do steroids, truth be told he probably did, but it also doesn’t mean that you can single one person out without any proof. If you do that then, again in my opinion, you have to do it to the entire era. All or nothing. Just because Bonds was the best of the era doesn’t mean he should be punished. Innocent until proven guilty and the American Dream are all things we are promised when we come into this world and it’s time we start collecting on that notion.

Game Preview: New York Yankees vs. New York Mets 4/26

Tonight is the finale of the Subway Series as far as inside Yankee Stadium is concerned when the New York Yankees play host to the New York Mets. We have been entertained with some great pitching matchups this series and tonight's face off will be no different. Tonight on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball the Yankees will send Nathan Eovaldi to the mound to face off with the Mets LHP Jon Niese. The game will be played at 8:05 pm ET and will be seen on the ESPN Sunday Night Baseball broadcast.

  • Eovaldi comes into the start tonight fresh off his best start of the season for the Yankees against the Detroit Tigers. Eovaldi pitched into the 8th inning and allowed one run against a strong Detroit lineup. Eovaldi picked up his first victory of his Yankees tenure and heads into tonight's start with a 1-3 record and a 4.62 ERA in seven career starts against the Mets.

  • Niese improved his 2015 season record to 2-0 with a victory over the Atlanta Braves last time out. Niese threw 6.2 innings of one-run ball against the Braves with rookie catcher Kevin Plawecki behind the dish. The Yankees offense will look to end Niese's shot at a perfect season in 2015 tonight in the Bronx.

We won't see these Mets again until September when these two teams travel to Citi Field so enjoy the last remnants of the Subway Series while you can. The Yankees stay home tomorrow to begin hosting the team they swept a couple weeks back in the Tampa Bay Rays while nobody reading this probably cares what the Mets will be doing. So with that said, Go Yankees!

Remembering The 2000 World Series - Game 4

The 2000 World Series featured the New York Yankees and the New York Mets facing off in the World Series for the first time in their history. This was the first Subway Series since 1956 when the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Yankees faced off. Let's take the time to remember Game 4 of the 2000 World Series.

The New York Yankees sent Denny Neagle to the mound to face off with the Mets Bobby Jones in Game 4 of the Subway World Series. Derek Jeter led off the game and blasted a home run over the left field fence giving the Yankees a lead that they would never relinquish in this game. This would extend Derek Jeter's World Series hitting streak to 13 games and would be only the 16th lead off home run in World Series history. The Yankees would win the game 3-2 to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the Subway World Series. Jeff Nelson would take the victory and  Bobby Jones would take the loss with Mariano Rivera notching the save for the pinstripers.

Weekly Check In: Luis Severino

Another week and another check in with one of the Yankees top prospects, well this time it is the Yankees top prospect in Luis Severino. Severino made a start this weekend and while it didn't show in the win column the Yankees RHP was back to dominating minor league hitters. Let's see how that affected his stat line from this season.

Remembering The 2000 World Series - Game 3

The 2000 World Series featured the New York Yankees and the New York Mets facing off in the World Series for the first time in their history. This was the first Subway Series since 1956 when the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Yankees faced off. Let's take the time to remember Game 3 of the 2000 World Series.

The Yankees would send Orlando Hernandez to the mound to face off with the Mets Rick Reed in Game 3 of the Subway World Series. The game would go into the 8th inning tied at 2-2 when Orlando Hernandez gave up two runs to break the game open and give the Mets a 4-2 lead. The Mets would win the game by that same score breaking Orlando Hernandez's perfect playoff record of 6-0 and ending the Yankees 14 consecutive World Series victories dating back to the 1996 World Series. John Franco would take the victory and Orlando Hernandez would take the loss with Armando Benitez notching the save to make the Subway World Series 2-1 in the Yankees favor.

This Day In Yankees History 4/26: An A-Bomb, From A-Rod, Again & Again & Again

On this day in 2005 Alex Rodriguez hit home runs in his first three at bats becoming only the 11th player in Major League history to knock in 10 or more RBI's in a single game. A Rod would come up one RBI short of the American League record of 11 by fellow Yankee Tony Lazzeri in 1936. A Rod would come up two RBI's short of the Major League record of 12 set by Jim Bottomley in 1924 and Mark Whiten in 1993.

Also on this day in 1961 Roger Maris would hit his first of his record breaking 61 home runs in that magical season. It took Roger eleven Yankees games before he hit his first home run against the Detroit Tigers in old Tiger Stadium.
