Bullpen backs up Nova's rough start with perfect 3.1 innings as Yanks avoid sweep

Ivan Nova gave up 2 earned runs in a tough-to-watch 5.2 innings, Yangervis Solarte went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Adam Warren, Shawn Kelley, and David Robertson combined to throw a perfect 3.1 frames of relief tonight as the Yankees destroyed any possibility of an 0-162 season by beating the Astros, 4-2. Throughout his performance here, Nova really was awful, but thanks to 4 double plays he was able to escape with a W.

Anyway, as you can see by that score, the Yanks offense kinda came alive this evening, as Derek Jeter, Brett Gardner, and Solarte each hit RBI Singles. Besides them, Carlos Beltran also drove in a run on a Sac Fly, while Ichiro, the guy who everyone is convinced sucks for some reason, went 2-for-4 with a couple of runs. So yea, this game went pretty well. It was frustrating in the first couple of innings, but in the end, everything worked out.

Trenton Thunder Add Carmen Angelini To 25 Man Roster

The Trenton Thunder, Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, announced their official Opening Day roster for the 2014 season.

Trenton's Media Day was held at ARM & HAMMER Park Tuesday, and one change has been made since that original player list was released:

Infielder Carmen Angelini will begin the season with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and infielder Dan Fiorito takes his place on the Thunder's active, 25-man roster.

In addition, six players will begin the season on the Thunder Disabled List. Those six players are pitchers Scott Allen, Rigoberto Arrebato and Nick Goody, catcher Kyle Higashioka, infielder/outfielder Casey Stevenson and outfielder Slade Heathcott.

Trenton Thunder Presents Welcome North To Fans

Earlier this week, two days before the Trenton Thunder’s home opener, the Thunder hosted their annual “Welcome North” open house at Arm & Hammer Park. Fans were treated to free hot dogs, soda, stadium tours, autographs, and got to watch an on field work out session including batting practice.

It really was an awesome way to start the season.  The players couldn’t have been more hospitable as they signed everything from bats, jerseys, balls, baseball cards and autograph books. Even mascot Boomer and bat dogs Derby and newcomer Rookie were on hand for the event.  One of the real treats of the day, though, was the stadium tour that took fans on an insider’s view of the park.  During the tour fans were shown the jersey Derek Jeter wore he wore on his first rehab assignment with the Thunder. The tour also included a peek into the club house and work-out room as well as the under-the-stadium batting cages before spilling out into the home dugout where the fans got the chance to see the field from a player’s perspective.

One cannot help but to imagine, for a moment, what it would be like to be a prospect in the New York Yankee organization.  The great thing about the event is that everyone, young and old, seemed to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. The day served as an entertaining prelude to the start of a fresh season filled with promise and dreams, for both fans and players alike.

Quick Hit: My Posts May Be Sporadic To Non Existant

Just a quick heads up so nobody follows a missing persons report or think that I am dead. I am taking the wife to a concert tonight, my first rap concert ever. Childish Gambino, who is in the video below from Youtube, is who we are going to see. I am pretty excited about it but I hate to miss the game and all the news from tonight, find it in your hearts to forgive me please. Have a good day Yankees family!

This Day In New York Yankees History 4/3

On this day way back in 2009 the Yankees and the Mets both debuted their new stadiums on the same day. The Yankees hosted the Cubs at the new Yankees Stadium and the Mets hosted the Red Sox at Citi Field. Both teams would win their debuts in these exhibition games and the Yankees would bring home a World Series ring in the same season.
