Scorpions drop third straight game to Desert Dogs, 5-3

Yankees prospects Mason Williams and Peter O'Brien combined to go just 1-for-8 tonight as the Scottsdale Scorpions dropped their third consecutive game to the Glendale Desert Dogs, 5-3. The Scorps played okay in this one, but in the end they simply weren't good enough.

The one hit in that combined 1-for-8 came from outfielder Mason Williams, who was 1-for-4 on the night. The hit was a double, but Williams still did not get past second base in that inning. As for O'Brien, this game was one to forget, as he went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.

As for the Yankees pitchers in action tonight, left-handed Fred Lewis threw 1.1 scoreless innings of relief while James Pazos, who has the pitching staff's only win so far this season to his line, tossed a scoreless ninth. With this loss, Scottsdale's record is now just 1-3, last in the AFL East.

This Day In New York Yankees History 10/12

On this day in 1948 the Yankees hired a new manager, Casey Stengel, to replace Bucky Harris. The "Old Professor" never finished above fifth place before coming to the Yankees as the manager of the Braves and the Dodgers.
