A Yankee Fan’s Response to A Sox Fan’s Ode to Mariano

I have to admit that I need to drink vodka on the rocks,
Whenever someone I know admits they like the Red Sox.

I just do not like them, it’s one of the things I can’t bear,
They strut around refusing to shave their disgusting facial hair.

There is one exception, someone I don’t blame
It’s because Yankees are his daddy, Pedro Martinez is his name.

He’s a top notch, a class act, the finest you’ll ever meet,
And it’s all because he admitted that the Yankees cannot be beat.

It’s hard not to like him although he’s a foe,
He helps the Yankees win games, He’s Pedro.

In pitching ballgames against the Yankees, well it’s understood
Pedro Martinez will always tip his cap to the Yankees because they are that good.

Yankee fans will remember him forever. To tell you the truth
I think Michael Kay still tells the story from his broadcasting booth.

Were he not a Red Sox player there wouldn’t be such a fuss,
Too bad you retired Pedro, we wish you could pitch to us!
After Pedro Martinez tipped his cap and called the Yankees his Daddy last season, you knew Yankee fans weren't going to let that comment slide. These photos are from Game 2 of the ALCS on Oct. 13, 2004. Food vendors set up outside the park got into the act as well.

Boone Logan To See Dr. James Andrews

Boone Logan left the team today to fly down to Florida to see Dr. James Andrew about his inflamed elbow. I called BS when Boone was diagnosed with inflammation, the same as David Robertson, but has not even gotten close to returning to the team and it looks like I may be right unfortunately. Boone played catch a couple times this weekend and manager Joe Girardi said that he played "better catch" but Boone will still see the Tommy John sentencing doctor sometime tomorrow.

New York Yankees @ Boston Red Sox 9/15

The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox finish up their three game set this weekend as the Yanks will play their final game at Fenway Park this season. The Red Sox will honor Yankees closer Mariano Rivera before the game in a pregame ceremony. The Yankees will send Ivan Nova to the mound to face off with the undefeated Clay Buchholz. The game will be televised at 8:05 pm ET on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball.

New York Yankees Wild Card Update

Heading into Sunday...

Changes Coming To Japanese Player Posting System

Possibly just in time for the Masahiro Tanaka sweepstakes comes news that Major League Baseball and the Nippon Professional Baseball league are working on changes to the Japanese player bidding system. These changes could be in place as early as this winter before the Tanaka all out sweepstakes begins.

Currently teams submit blind bids in simply for the right to negotiate with the player on a major league deal. The changes they are looking to implement would include as many as three teams included as "winners" giving the player three options to choose to negotiate with. I like the idea of giving some sort of input to the player so I am all for this and I hope that it gets into effect before this winter.  Maybe this will be enough incentive to let the Yankees get over the Kei Igawa, Jose Contreras,  and Hideki Irabu failures and jump back into the international market.

Red Sox Honor Mo with...

Please excuse the tone of this post... I am a little hostile and bitter right now (aren't we all?) So apparently, the Boston Red are going to honor Mariano Rivera before his final game at Fenway Park. SHOCKER. Are we supposed to be thankful and grateful for this? I think Buck Showalter pretty much summed it up when he said "If you know me, it's tough for me to go out and be a part of that, but I'm going to do it... he then continued by stating "we're toward the end of the schedule, so all the good gifts are gone," and finished with "I'd like to give him a blown save." Cool. Thank you, Bucky. Very classy thing to say, unfortunately you didn't give him that.

Going back to my original point- the Red Sox plan to honor Mariano before his last game at Fenway Park and I cannot wait to see what they will give him. While we wait I figured we could play a guessing game. What do YOU think the Red Sox will give Mo? Here are my guesses below... comment with yours!

1) A T-Shirt that says "I AM NOT THE FATHER" (...because Pedro Martinez)

2) A gift basket full of PEDs (because they just hate Jeter and A-Rod)

3) Facial hair
Beard & Mustache Set
....I'll come up with more after you do! Post some comments!

This Day In New York Yankees History 9/15

On this day in 2010 Derek Jeter was awarded first base after pretending to be hit by a pitch by the Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Chad Qualls. Replays showed that the ball hit the knob of the bat but Jeter put on enough of an acting job to get on base in the eventual 4-3 Yankees loss.
