Game Thread: NYY @ KC 5/12

We haven't done one of these in the part couple of days so let's make up for loss time by making this one the most active one yet. Hopefully the Yankees saved some offense for today after they bombed the Royals last night at Kauffman Stadium because the same two teams are at it again today. The Yankees will send Andy Pettitte to the mound to try and keep the winning streak alive. Feel free to use this thread to chat with us during the game or follow us on twitter, @GreedyStripes, to tweet with us there all year long.

Here is the Yankees lineup

Brett Gardner CF
Robinson Cano 2B
Vernon Wells LF
Travis Hafner DH
Ichiro Suzuki RF
Jayson Nix SS
Lyle Overbay 1B
Chris Nelson 3B
Chris Stewart C
LHP Andy Pettitte

DL Trip Likely For Eduardo Nunez After Setback

Yet another Yankees player is bound for the disabled list as Eduardo Nunez had a set back while trying to return from a rib cage muscle strain. Nunez did fielding drills and hitting drills and still felt something in the rib muscle and Girardi says a DL trip is likely for Nunez. Nunez himself confirmed that he has been completely shut down and with the Yankees need for a back up infielder, especially with a double header on Monday, a DL trip is more and more likely. Corban Joseph is the only player on the 40 man roster so it seems likely that he would be the one to be called up until David Adams is ready.

Ryan Pope, Gil Velazquez, & Cody Johnson Released

Ryan Pope, Gil Velazquez, and Cody Johnson were all released today from the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Railriders team. Outfielder Thomas Neal was activated off the DL and recently acquired infielder Alberto Gonzalez was activated so the roster moves were necessary. Ryan Pope was already on the disabled list before the move so there is a shot we may get him back when he heals up.

New York Yankees @ Kansas City Royals 5/11

The Yankees offense exploded into a three game winning streak last night and look to keep the winning streak alive tonight as they play the Kansas City Royals again tonight in Kauffman Stadium. The Yankees will send Andy Pettitte to te mound looking to stop a personal two game losing streak against big game James Shields for the Royals. The game will be televised at 7:10 pm ET on YES and MLB TV.

This Day In Yankees History 5/11

On this day in 2006 Hideki Matsui's streak of playing in every game since coming over to the United States was snapped after breaking his wrist sliding for a ball in left field. Matsui's streak began on Opening Day of 2003 and was snapped at 518 consecutive games which was a major league record for consecutive games to start a career breaking Ernie Banks previous record of 424 straight games.

Game 37 Lineup: Yankees @ Royals

Brett Gardner CF
Robinson Cano 2B
Vernon Wells LF
Travis Hafner DH
Ichiro Suzuki RF
Jayson Nix SS
Lyle Overbay 1B
Chris Nelson 3B
Chris Stewart C

LHP Andy Pettitte

Curtis Granderson Homers In 2nd Rehab Game

In Curtis Granderson's second rehab game with the Scranton Railriders he went 1-5 with a home run while playing eight innings in left field. It is worth noting that Granderson's home run was the opposite field type so that is encouraging to go with his three ground outs and his strike out. Granderson is still in spring training mode so as long as he comes through these games healthy and knocks some rust off everything is good. The end of Ben Francisco draws just a little closer every at bat.

Yankees Bringing Up David Adams For 3B Soon

According to Mark Feinsand from the New York Daily News the Yankees are preparing to bring David Adams back on the 40 man roster and then promote him to New York to play 3B while Kevin Youkilis is on the disabled list. Since Adams was designated for assignment, released, and then re signed they cannot bring him (or Clay Rapada) back up until May 15th by the new collective bargaining agreements rules.

I cannot say I understand this because we just acquired Chris Nelson to do the same exact thing but I will say that I would rather have David Adams and his power bat up right now over Nelson. Granted we did not give up anything of use for Chris Nelson and he filled the spot while David Adams could not be called up but still. If Nelson is the one DFA'd for Adams then I guess I can see the logic and I cannot see anybody else getting the ax to make room for him. For those clamoring for a Ben Francisco DFA that is going to come when Granderson comes back not for David Adams.

David has been the regular third baseman down in Scranton although he has played some second base, his natural position, and has taken some reps at first base as well here recently. Adams could provide some real depth since we do not have a viable back up option for Robinson Cano or Lyle Overbay at this time. Adams is a right handed hitter that has put up a .314/.404/.477 triple slash with six doubles and two home runs for the Railriders team.

Congratulation Joe Girardi On 500th Win

Congratulations manager Joe Girardi on his 500th win as the Yankees manager last night in a 11-6 rout of the Kansas City Royals. Say what you will about Joe Girardi, the binder, or whatever else but the guys wins baseball games and probably wins a lot of baseball games that Joe Torre wouldn't so he is okay in my book. Nobody reads my book but I felt like it should be said anyway so congrats again Joe and here's to 500 more victories in pinstripes.
