Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Houston Astros 4/10

The New York Yankees and the Houston Astros will finish their three-game set this week in the heart of Texas with the finale of their series. For the finale, the Yankees will send James Paxton to the mound to face off with Collin McHugh for the Astros. The Yankees have an off-day tomorrow before traveling to Chicago to face off with the White Sox, so let’s get to it here in Houston so the team can get the hell out of here.

Paxton faced the Astros four times in 2018 as a member of the Seattle Mariners, posting a 4-0 record with a 2.05 ERA. Career against the Astros, Paxton is 7-3 with a 2.89 ERA in 12 starts, so it’s safe to say that Paxton has done well against Houston throughout his career.

McHugh has been incredible inside Minute Maid Park throughout his career, posting a 5-0 record with a 1.18 ERA over his last eight starts there. McHugh was tough in his last start as well, limiting the Oakland Athletics to just one run on three hits.

Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Houston Astros 4/9

The New York Yankees and the Houston Astros will continue their three-game set out west in the heart of Texas. In the middle game of this three-game set the Yankees will send their top pitching prospect Jonathan Loaisiga to the mound to face off with the one who got away, Gerrit Cole for the Astros. Tonight, we have a little bit of a later start for us on the East Coast, so let’s get to it here in Houston.

Loaisiga took a no-decision in his first start of the season, limiting the Detroit Tigers to just one hit in four innings of work. This will be the first time that Loaisiga has faced the Astros in his career and this will be the second start of the season for the Yankees top pitching prospect.

Cole has been the tough luck loser in both of his starts already this season, posting an 0-2 record with just a 3.00 ERA and 19 strikeouts. Let’s hope the third time is not the charm tonight for Cole and the Astros.

Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Baltimore Orioles 4/4

The New York Yankees have enjoyed the friendly confides of Yankee Stadium thus far this season, but the team will head out on the road for their first road game today in Baltimore. In the Orioles home opener this afternoon, the Yankees will send James Paxton to the mound to face off with Baltimore’s starter Alex Cobb. These are not games the Yankees can afford to give away, no matter how early in the season it is, so let’s get to it here in Baltimore.

Paxton was great in his first start of the season against the Orioles, but the Yankees offense could not score enough to get Big Maple the victory. The team will look to do much better this afternoon against Cobb and the Orioles. 

Cobb will make his season debut this afternoon for Baltimore after missing Opening Day with an injury that he sustained in his last start of spring training.

Opening Day 2019. The lines have been drawn on the field, the stadium is packed, the vendors are running their tails off, and the players are on the field. Let’s do this!!!!! In the start this afternoon the Yankees will send Masahiro Tanaka to the mound to face off with Andrew Cashner for the Orioles. Opening Day Game Preview: Baltimore Orioles @ New York Yankees 3/28

It’s here, it’s finally here, and we finally made it. Opening Day 2019. The New York Yankees will begin their quest for the 2019 World Series Championship this afternoon in the Bronx against the Baltimore Orioles. Game one, where everyone is in first place. The Yankees will start Masahiro Tanaka this afternoon in the opener while the Orioles will counter with Andrew Cashner.

Tanaka will make his fourth career Opening Day start for the Yankees this afternoon after Luis Severino was not quite ready to start the season due to a shoulder issue. Tanaka has not earned a victory in these starts, posting an 0-2 record with a 9.49 ERA on Opening Day, so the Yankees, and Tanaka specifically, will look for better results this afternoon in the Bronx.

Cashner also makes the Opening Day start this afternoon due to injury. Cashner will make his second career Opening Day start after the Orioles learned that Alex Cobb could not make the start due to a strained right groin that he suffered in his final spring training start. Cashner was 4-15 last season with a 5.29 ERA.

Game Preview: New York Yankees vs. Baltimore Orioles 9/21

The New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles will begin a three-game weekend set in the Bronx tonight with the Yankees have everything to lose and the Orioles in the position to be the spoiler. Do not let your guard down, and do not give Buck Showalter a reason to sleep well this weekend. In the opener of the series the Yankees will send CC Sabathia to the mound to face off with former Yankees farmhand Yefrey Ramirez for the Orioles. Let’s get to it here in the Bronx.

Sabathia heads into the start tonight fresh off the shortest start of his 2018 season where he lasted just 2.1 inning pitched against the Toronto Blue Jays. In the start CC allowed five runs on seven hits including three home runs in a loss for New York. Sabathia has not pitched well against the Orioles this season posting a 0-1 record with a 6.00 ERA. 

Ramirez has made three appearances for the Orioles against the Yankees since being traded to Baltimore in 2017 and has posted a 0-2 record with a 7.50 ERA. Ramirez has made two starts in those three appearances and one relief appearance, the relief outing coming on August 26 where the righty allowed no runs and just one hit in three innings of work.

Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Seattle Mariners 9/7

The New York Yankees and the Seattle Mariners will kick off a three-game weekend set out on the West Coast tonight inside Safeco Field. If a game starts in the middle of the night out on the East Coast and no one over here is even awake to watch it, did it really happen? We are about to find out as Masahiro Tanaka takes the mound for the Yankees to oppose James Paxton for the Mariners. Let’s get to it here inside Safeco Field.

Tanaka has been great over his last nine starts posting a 2.68 ERA while allowing two earned runs or less in seven of those starts during that span. Tanaka has also been especially tough against the Mariners specifically posting a 6-0 record with a 2.34 ERA against them in his career including a 3-0 record and a 2.17 ERA in four career starts inside Safeco Field.

Paxton will make his 26^th start of the 2018 campaign tonight and just his second start since coming off the disabled list. In his first start back from the DL, Paxton looked sharp as he struck out ten in five innings of work against the Oakland Athletics in a quality start for the southpaw.

Game Preview: New York Yankees vs. Detroit Tigers 8/30

The New York Yankees and the Detroit Tigers will begin a four-game set that stretches into the weekend tonight in the Bronx. In the opener of the series the Yankees will send JA Happ to the mound to face off with Francisco Liriano for the Tigers. Detroit is sending a lefty out that has struggled with the home run ball lately out to Yankee Stadium to face off with the Yankees… yeah… let’s definitely get to it here in the Bronx.

Happ has won each of his first five starts for the New York Yankees and will look for a sixth straight win tonight in the Bronx. Along the way Happ has posted a 2.37 ERA including a solid start against the Baltimore Orioles last time out where he gave up two runs in six innings of work with nine strikeouts.

Liriano will head into the start tonight on a couple days of extra rest tonight inside Yankee Stadium. Liriano may benefit from the rest after a horrible August that saw the lefty go 0-4 with a 6.88 ERA in four starts, including giving up five home runs in 17 innings worth of work.

Game Preview: New York Yankees VS. Chicago White Sox 8/28

The New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox will continue their three-game set this week inside Yankee Stadium with the middle game of the series. Tonight the Yankees will send Lance Lynn to the mound to face off with James Shields for the White Sox. Three days until the August 31^st revocable waivers trade deadline, so let’s get to it here in the Bronx.

Lynn was once thought of by Yankees fans as a huge acquisition by Brian Cashman at the trade deadline, then reality hit, and Lynn started pitching to the back of his baseball card… just like I said that he would. In Lyn’s last 9.1 innings pitched the Yankees right-hander has allowed 10 runs. Not the ace Yankees Facebook groups made him out to be, huh?

"I once pitched a game THIS big."

Shields has been home run prone this season and that continued in his last start against the Detroit Tigers. Shields allowed three home runs in one inning against the Tigers in a loss. Shields did go at least six innings for the 22^nd time this season though, which is a silver lining for Chicago if they were looking for one.

Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Cleveland Indians 7/14

The New York Yankees and the Cleveland Indians will be back at it again today inside Cleveland’s Progressive Field in the third of a four-game set between the two clubs. Thursday night we were entertained with a matchup of aces while the young guns took the mound for their respective teams last night. Tonight each team will take more of a veteran type mindset as the Yankees send CC Sabathia to the mound to face off with Mike Clevinger. CC against his old team and the team that drafted him once again, let’s get to it here inside Progressive Field.

Sabathia took the loss in his last start against the Baltimore Orioles after allowing five runs on seven hits including two home runs and will need to pitch much better tonight against a strong Cleveland offense. Sabathia is no stranger to pitching inside Progressive Field and has posted 123 career starts in Cleveland which is good for a 51-41 record and a 3.80 ERA.

Clevinger will also be looking to pitch much better tonight than he did in his last start after allowing five runs on seven hits in six innings of work against the Cincinnati Reds. Clevinger did strike out 11 batters in the start but was hit hard by the Reds offense. In Clevinger’s last ten starts the righty has posted a 4-4 record with a 3.88 ERA.

Game Preview: New York Yankees @ Baltimore Orioles 7/11

In the fourth and final game of this four-game set this week in Baltimore the Orioles will play host once again to the New York Yankees. Happy Sonny Gray Day. I’m sorry but for some reason I just feel confident about this start, I can’t put my finger on it as to why, but I do. In the start tonight the Yankees will send Sonny Gray to the mound to face off with Dylan Bundy for the Orioles. Let’s get to it here in Baltimore.

Gray has lost three straight starts which has lead Yankees pitching coach Larry Rothschild to work with the right-hander on his mechanics in between starts. Over his last three starts against the Rays, Red Sox and Blue Jays the Yankees righty has allowed 15 runs and 19 hits in 11 innings pitched combined for an astronomical 12.27 ERA.

Bundy will make his second start since coming off the disabled list tonight after allowing six runs in 3.3 innings against the Minnesota Twins in his first start. Prior to heading to the DL the Orioles right-hander was 3-0 with a 1.98 ERA in four June starts.
