The 26 year old Cuban defecting right handed starting pitcher Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez has been cleared to sign with major league teams and does not expect to be a free agent for long. Some writers speculate that he will sign before the July 31st trade deadline since it took so long to be cleared to play in the majors. Miguel is 26 years old so he would not count against a teams international spending cap which will make him even more attractive to contenders this July even though he is being linked to a five year deal worth as much as $60,000,000. Naturally the Dodgers seem to be the favorites to land the Cuban right hander which makes me reminisce on the days when we were the favorites to land actual talent that only cost money...
