#AROD3K

Congratulations to Alex Rodriguez tonight as the Yankees designated hitter hit his 3,000th hit of his major league career. In the first inning Rodriguez stepped up to the plate against the Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Justin Verlander and clobbered an opposite field home run to right field for the historic hit. Alex became just the third player in the history of the game to hit a home run for his 3000th hit joining Wade Boggs (Tampa Bay Rays) and Derek Jeter (New York Yankees) all-time. Congratulations once again to A Rod from all Yankees fans and from everyone here at The Greedy Pinstripes.

  1. I'll be the first one to throw an opinion out. Before the season started, I was 100% against Arod. I wanted the Yankees to eat his salary and release him. I was wrong. Unlike Hans, I can admit that. Alex has put up numbers unparalleled by anybody. He has earned my admiration. He's one of the best I've ever seen.

    1. Imagine his numbers had he not missed the entire 2014 season or if he didn't tear up both his hips, we'd be talking 1000 home runs and not 668-ish.

  2. Wow there sparky Levin. Where am I wrong? Tell me the situation? That Eovaldi sux or DiDi sux. I'm not wrong on either right now and I even said DiDi played good D last night so tell me where I'm wrong. I never broached the Arod subject. I still think the Yanks will finish third or 4th. Let's go Mr Honesty and make your case!!!

  3. Maybe even add two more to it Jeff, A-Rod and Didi! If Didi has the hebbi-Jebbies out of his system and continues to play like he has lately. He is the best friend a pitcher can have, saving a run is just about on equal as scoring a run.
A-Rod has been putting up numbers as the DH we haven't seen in many years.
Brett is just Brett, the spark plug of this team and one of the better hitters in the clutch. Brett plays all out baseball and should be given rest every once and a while so it would behove them to keep Williams and shit-can Beltran! He is over the hill as of now, not hitting well and not getting to balls he should!

  4. Agreed. I also agree with Hans about Eovaldi. Like I said, I can admit that. He can't. I remember him saying Gardner is a "punchin Judy hitter" and the worst signing ever. I love debates, but smart people will actually admit when they're wrong. Only ignorant people think they're right all the time.

    1. I think he is right and I think anyone with a brain in their head would agree. My difference is with him being fixable...I think he can, but only if he really wants to work very hard at it. Just think about it, last year he had his fastball and nothing else...well, he did have the start of a breaking ball.

    2. Gardner is a punch and judy hitter that has a short right field in Yankee Stadium. Levin look up how many HR he has outside of Yankee stadium? Show me the data and before the home stand he was hitting about 260 and happened to get hot. Check the HR's out my friend outside of the stadium

    3. To be fair though, and I'm using the eye test and my fantastic memory, a lot of Gardner's home runs are not cheap Yankee Stadium type home runs. Maybe it's a mental thing knowing the wall is within spitting distance but still.

  5. Has anyone picked up on EOVO's breaking pitches? He gives them away sometimes by slowing his delivery and shorting his back swing.

    1. I see your point Ken, I just don't think it's a strong point at all. First of all, most hitters are better at home then they are on the road. Nothing scientific there, just a result of playing at home. That's why they call it "home field advantage." Second, based on your reasoning, that makes McCann a punch and judy hitter. Which is something he's never been associated with. He only hits homeruns at Yankee Stadium. I believe 27 of his last 33. Third, and you can verify this at mlb.com if you'd like, but there's 30 teams in baseball. That makes 90 starting outfielders. (Last time I checked, teams have 3 starting outfielders each) Gardner is #20 in slugging, #20 in OPS, and 1 home run away from being tied for #26. By stats, that easily puts him in the top third of ALL outfielders. Couple that with the fact that nobody in front of him on the home run list had anywhere near the amount of stolen bases makes your evaluation of him and the contract he was signed to, nothing more than biased, opinionated, and flat out wrong.

    2. I like that one, Jeff!
Brett has always been underrated, remember when all the experts were saying he would only be a 3rd or fourth outfielder. Yet every year someone always wants to trade for him.

  7. Levin I too look at numbers to determine things unlike others who think numbers lie. Let's look at Gardner's career numbers vs McCann as I believe your comparison between the two was poorly chosen. First Brett is a career 266 hitter. McCann a career 272 hitter in 3 more seasons. Garden has 8 years in and BM has 11. BM has hit 209 career HR to Gardner's 47. The avg HR per season for BM is 19 and Gardner is 5.88, again with the majority coming at home. Last year he finally hit double digit HR's. BM OBP342 Gardners is 347. BM slugging at 466 and Gardner is 396 slugging and lastly OPS of 809 for BM and Gardner is 742. The catcher has a higher OPS then the OF. I based my punch and judy comments on facts and the numbers don't lie. I used Baseball reference .com for the stats.

    1. You're right. McCann was a poor choice. I was just making the point that home field was a ridiculous statement for you to make. If you're going to look at numbers, then you need to look at all numbers. The steroid era is over buddy. You can't hide a poor defensive player in a corner outfield position anymore. They're not going to hit 40 homeruns anymore. Gardner is the new standard for outfielders now. Get over it. But since you are such a numbers guy like you claim, why don't you take a look at Brian McCann's 26.9 WAR in 11 years vs. Gardner's 25.9 in 8 years. That can be found on baseball reference as well.

    2. comparing a perennial middle of the order type hitter to a player that has always relied on speed and hit at the top or bottom of the order is also a bad comparison in my opinion.

    3. Yes, I admitted that comparison was not a good one when comparing power numbers. I was only pointing out that McCann has hit the majority of his homeruns at Yankee stadium. A vast majority, and that Gardner's should not be discounted simply because of where they were hit. Also, just for the record Hans, Gardner hit 8 at home last year vs. 9 on the road.

    4. I got what you were saying Levin, I should have been more clear who I was directing that at. I got that you were merely comparing the home and away splits for home runs. It's a well known fact that McCann almost ONLY hits home runs at Yankee Stadium, it was the comparisons afterward that I thought were a little unfair to Gardner.

  8. Levin first off I have no idea where the hell this Gardner crap came out of. I haven't spoken about Gardner all season. Did I say he was a punch and Judy hitter, yes I did and I still stand behind it. Let's compare him to Ellsbury and tell me what you think then. Just because I don't agree with you doesn't mean I'm wrong or right. That's my opinion just like you think Gardner is the OF of the future. You might even see your boy gone by next season with Slade and Judge coming. Lastly I'm not talking about an OF hitting 450 HR, however Gardner's Hr's are a bi product of Yankee stadium

  9. C.C. SABATHIA.....What is the point here ? Besides salary owed ?....

He has a disease....he is no longer a major league pitcher. Except for the first three innings. Maybe.
This is now the third season of 5.50 plus ERA. The third !!
When is enough ? Tonight ?

I agree he is a nice guy. The team mates like him. And, he is a tough guy. But, he is done.
He knows it. Management knows it. You know it.
Lets pick a number...6-12, for this years tally ? I may be too generous. But, it stinks.
It may work for the Mets.......but, not here.

    1. I agree Patrick, the CC show has grown old. Sure he has pitched better than what his record shows but the guy has simply shown how done he is. He may be a #4 in the National league at this point

  10. COLE HAMELS....a number one, pitcher.

I say the Yankee management may be thinking long, and hard, if Hamels shuts them down
on Wednesday. Why wouldn't they ?
Maybe if the Phillies take back a chunk of monies owed ?
Maybe if the Yankees can offer a batch of B+ players ? That entices ?
    Maybe.....maybe. At least try.

There is no maybe, if you look at Hamels wife ! Bring up images.

Or, maybe if Sabathia, and his boxes of cereal...goes on a three year cruise to no where.

A stud pitcher, and a hybrid offensive LH bat.....that's the formula.
Otherwise, it's mediocre time again.......just like the past 2-3 seasons.
