Most Popular Article of the Week: Bloomberg: 1% Share of New York Yankees is For Sale!

According to Bloomberg you, anyone reading this, can be a part-owner in the New York Yankees for the low-low price of just $24 million. The team is worth anywhere from $2.75 billion to $3.25 billion depending on where you read and a minority owner is selling their share, 1% to be exact, on the open market right now. At this time it is not known who is selling their stake in the company but Hal Steinbrenner has once again shot down any rumors of it being anyone in the Steinbrenner family. The Steinbrenner’s are not selling the Yankees anytime soon. Hal’s lips to my blog.

Club 9 is the company handling the sale and for their paperwork purposes they have the team valued at $3 billion. The company then applies a 20% discount to the average cost per percent of the team’s value to come up with their $24 million price tag. Time to cash in your piggie banks Yankees family, let’s buy us some Yankees!

    1. They might not spend 230 million again but they will spend. 180-200 million is still a lot of money, even by today's standards.

    2. I wouldn't bet on that amount either Burch. This is Hal the Coupon Clippers Yanks now

    3. Hal is a cheap skate, we all know that, but he has recognized and said as much that the team has to have a higher payroll and the stars (which go hand-in-hand) to bring the fans to the yard to watch.

Just as long as those poor fans don't sit with the rich fans of course.

    4. Attendance is apparently down at George Steinbrenner field aka Legends field. Samething will happen in NY if the Yanks crap the bed. There are some people who like all of Cashman's trades this winter. As you know Burch I hate the Castro move. I do like the Chapman move ONLY if you are going to re-sign him or package him for top talent at the trade deadline. If you keep him the whole season and only pick up a low first rd pick then to me it shows you the elf has no clue. I don't want to lose him like we did Cano for that low draft pick. I want a haul

    5. We all know how I feel about the Castro trade as it affects Refsnyder. If he helps, great. I've always been team first. Was a trade just to make a trade though.

  2. When one only has to spend less money then that which comes off the books to make the team a winner again, it will get done.
It is the way to go, have your team stocked with very good players (not game changers) then go out and get one or two young game changers) thus you are under the cap and still not have your team locked into over the hill players that block younger and better players from playing.
Getting and keeping the Farm System a strong part of the organization will also help by producing a Jeter, Cano, Mo, Dellin, Severino, etc.

    1. Reed you make me laugh with all your references about how your boy the elf has to make trades because Hal won't spend money. I think if I endorsed Cruz your other boy you would change to Trump. I think whatever I say you go the other way?

    2. Both trades this winter Cashman added salary. Added like $9 million in the Chapman deal and a couple million (annually) in the Castro deal.

But yes Reed I think the Yankees want to get under the cap more than anything. They are expecting the cap to raise with this new CBA after 2016, as high as $200 million, and without Alex Rodriguez and CC Sabathia alone they should get there. Easily.

    3. Not really Ken H....
I plan for everything and accept the unexpected will happen, it got me to a good position in my life...and a few bucks as a contractor.

Look at the records; In the last 55 years, we have gone to the WS 16 times and won 9 WS. When I see numbers like that, the first thing I would do is find out what, why and how! As the Yankees have finally done just that, I look more to the future than I ever have before.
The best teacher is History (real true history) and the best leaders are those that study and learn from said history.
I am not young and I have learned and written about this way of changing the team for years...without anyone listening! Although in the last few years some have talked or written about it.

    4. Right Daniel...
Once under the cap, they have two years of spending without paying the "L" tax. I think that is right but even if not, they need not go over it again to get some very good young players.
The players always want more money at the age of 25/28 right? Ok, give them a big contract; at age 27 say 3 years @ $21,000,000 per. They have a lot of money with the chance of resigning with another team for more money again at the age of 30+/-. We no longer have to block a very good player on the way up.
