New York Yankees Outright Mike Zagurski To AAA
The New York Yankees have announced that they have outrighted left handed reliever Mike Zagurski to AAA today. Since Zagurski will not finish the season on the 40 man roster he will not be arbitration eligible this off season even though he has three years and 55 days worth of MLB service. Zagurski would not make much more than the league minimum anyway but every cent matters heading into the 2014 season for us. Zagurski can reject the outright to Scranton and elect free agency but I cannot see that happening after a less than stellar 2013 season in a small sample size. I expect Zagurski to get invited to spring training in 2014 with the New York Yankees.

Boone Logan MRI Being Sent To Dr. James Andrews
The Yankees have announced that they are sending the MRI on Boone Logan's left throwing elbow area to Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion. Obviously there is more than just inflammation if the Yanks are sending it to Dr. Andrews but they are not showing their cards just yet. With the signing of Mike Zagurski today to go with Cesar Cabral I think there may be a little more to this then they are letting on but we will just have to wait and see. Boone is set to be a free agent after this season so this is a major second opinion for both the Yankees and the future free agent.
Travis Hafner Added To 60 Day DL Ending Season
In a move that kind of comes as a shocker to me Travis Hafner has been added to the 60 day DL to make room for Mike Zagurski on the 40 man roster. This essentially ends any chance of Hafner coming back in the final weeks of the season as a pinch hitter. This will also essentially end Hafner's career as a New York Yankees player which has been all but memorable.
Yankees Sign & Call Up Mike Zagurski
The New York Yankees have announced that they have signed LHP Mike Zagurski to a deal and have him listed as an available relief pitcher tonight. No word yet on the 40 man roster move but I do not see any obvious 60 day DL candidates unless they do so to a Jose Ramirez. There is always Travis Hafner but I hear that he could be activated any time now so stay tuned!

Mike Zagurksi Opts Out & Becomes A Free Agent
Yankees minor league left handed pitcher Mike Zagurski has used his opt out clause to become a free agent in search of a major league opportunity. The 30 year old lefty has allowed 10 runs in six innings with the Pittsburgh Pirates this season but has dominated AAA batters with a combined 2.66 ERA and a 14.3 K/9 ratio in 47 innings this season between the two clubs. The problem is he has not limited lefties enough to be a true LOOGY, left handed batters have a triple slash of .244/.310./321, but is not good enough to be more than a one or two batter kind of pitcher in the majors. Hopefully he latches on with a team that will give him a shot at a major league deal and good luck to Mr. Zagurski.

Yankees Acquire Mike Zagurski & Yoshinori Tateyama
The Yankees announced a couple of moves today that will impact their farm system, specifically the AAA Scranton Wilkes Barre Railriders team.
The Yankees acquired Yoshinori Tateyama from the Texas Rangers for future considerations so that probably means we will send some money that way. Tateyama was sent to AAA after a lackluster 2012 season and had a 1.38 WHIP in AAA for the Rangers this season. Whether Tateyama has a legitimate shot at ,making the Yankees bullpen or if he is simply AAA depth is yet to be determined but I tend to go with the latter personally.
Mike Zagurski was signed to a minor league deal as a free agent and will also join the AAA Scranton team but this time for the starting rotation. He does not make much sense for the Yankees as they already have two Mike Zagurksi's in AAA named David Huff and Josh Spence but I guess you cannot have too much pitching especially in the year of the injury so there you have it. Zagurksi has big league experience, albeit limited, and could be in the Yankees bullpen out of necessity this season.
